You can see through the windows that the lights are either not on, or in battery/standby mode. It's moving too slow to be in service as an express. they go full speed through there to either the airport or newark penn. They store the EMU at 3 places. Morrisville yard, jersey ave yard, and hoboken. Only the push/pulls are kept in sunnyside as far as i know.
But I have seen some Arrow IIIs at Sunnyside - in fact I think I even got a photo of one last year as I was riding the LIRR from Penn Station. Unless they're started to not store the EMUs there, idk.
Correct. The last thing amtrak needs is a geriatric emu blocking service. :)
Officially serving the NEC are the yards at hoboken, kearney/mmc, county/jersey ave, morisville pa, and every once in a while they will put stuff on the 2 outside tracks at trenton. I am not sure how many 12 car trains are stored outside of those places, though i know there is at least one other spot. Sunnyside and morisville get push/pull electrics and so does long branch. The rest are diesel.
Figures. It would have been moving to hoboken in that case. It may also have been moving crew members back to hoboken. for evening service or an early morning run. Another possibility is that it was being moved to the MMC.
Deadheading is a term used in all forms of transportation - mainly transit. This is when a transit vehicle (train, bus, etc.) has finished its run for the day (or the time being) and is taken back to the storage facility - in this case a yard. It means the same thing in reverse - coming out of the yard and into service.
Thats my train station!!! :D

That it was - I had 3 others there (one left on the 7:52 you saw earlier back to New York.)
