Lennon was a helluva rythym player and a terrific wordsmith . . no shredder or show-off by today;s standards of hyperventilation. But the TONE of that Casino was jawdropping.
i like the grover tuner upgrade- have mixed feelings about the stripped down finish. trying to make it look like a blonde 59 ES335. I prefer the burst finish. The Casino was a slippery guitar, made Lennon sound better than he really was. He was not a great guitarist.
lennon's guitar ability was marginal. he was by no stretch a great guitarist. he was, however, the driving force of the group; and i am, by no means, trying to minimize his achievements. i thought, 'double fantasy,' was a brilliant album. i always thought he should not be living in washington square, and it turned out to be true. i admired him- and, yes, the epiphone casino is a great guitar.
@SuperQuater Thats basically what the Riviera is (if you put P-90s in it....which I think they came out with one that has three p93s). A little heavier but both guitars have great character.
Whatever you do, please don't write off all of the people who comment about how much this song sucks donkeyballs. Sure, it's nothing new to read posts from all the haters on youtube. But sometimes, something comes along so absolutely horrid that it warrants all of the hate that posters spew at it.
And this song is certainly one of those times. Dear God, this sucks.
It's only a video about John Lennon's guitar. Why wouldn't you pick the shittiest music from the sixties to play over it. It's not even a Lennon or Beatles song for that matter. I'm being totally sarcastic. Why the hell would you choose this song? This video would be better with relevant music.
@jonbeatlesfan Well, that is a beautiful guitar that I'm sure the user can rely on for years to come. I do still agree, though. In this type of video in which the camera is looking that thing up and down and all over, it'd be epic to hear "Revolution" being played over it. Even "Don't Let Me Down."
The Gibson/ Epiphone website describes the Casinos as having "the same basic body dimensions and construction of the commonly recognized Gibson ES-335 [actually, the 330], the Epiphone Riviera and the Epiphone Sheraton. However, unlike the 335-style [sic] body, which features a solid-center block, the Casino is completely hollow. Additionally, older Casinos featured a 17-degree (as opposed to a 14-degree) headstock and a neck joint at the 16th (as opposed to the 17th) fret.
@PinkDevilFish The original guitar that came out in the sixties was completely hollow without the the centerblock in most of the es-335 design..anyone want to back me up here? The result of all this research is the "Revolution" Casino, an early "alive" guitar that features a hollow, laminated maple body and top, mahogany neck, two Alnico V P-90 single-coil pickups and a no nonsense control layout featuring a three-way pickup selector and two volume and two tone pots.
well, it can get to that expence, but those are usualy special models like exact replicas of john lennons epiphone casino, in the end a lot of them are inexpensive, and some of them are very expensive, and, umm fuck! i forgot what i was going to say, anyways, its a good guitar either way

epiphone casino's would be "better" if the neck joined at the 20th fret
and if it had a center block while retaining the p90 pick ups
