Am I missing the 5th part? Vocal, Guitar, Elec Piano (from the guitar), drums, ..... Are we counting each foot as one part? Either, this is AMAZING!!! Great job man!!!
@guitaro5000 at least, the "guy" won't be hit by a storm of modesty :). I clicked your name and though this is nice, I don't see how bumping a couple of times on a modified guitar top can get you anywhere what is displayed here.
need some work with ego and reality, I think. You still deserve encouragements :)
@Rojer64 Thanks. But honestly I'm not that egotistical. It's just a bait to arouse skeptical curiosity, And it worked in your case. LOL. And then, if they like it they like it. But thanks for watching.
@guitaro5000 your ok but get someone else to sing instead. Not as good as this guy, the best looper I have seen is that guy corne somehting but his music whilst well looped is a little boring but still at least he fades stuff in and out which is more than most loopers can manage with their foot switches.
rock it man - screw these people not digging this, this is incredible! you could do a nightly thing like thelonious at bars, or something.. or satie.. really punk out the jams - love the chormaticity/whateverisgoingon that i can't understand. maybe you could teach me some basics on stepping out of key - not key modulation, but just a temp step - i love minor ivs & did a thing (i think i heard it on Mr Bungle) with a I III^6 VI add8th (=P) IV - sh** i just wrote this: I, ii-dim, III, I. charless
@KommonSens out of chars (charless) really dig this stepping out of key.. i wonder what 17/41 tone music has - would love a 41 key-octave keyboard! anyway - rock it man. & if you can recommend any midi guitar equipment/guitars would love that. thanks
thing is..a band is an intereaction of individuals .. and thats something that adds to the music.. not in an obvious way of 'sounds'.. but in terms of what is behind the music.. its an experience for all .. and all that just isnt there.with this. no matter how good.. even if you play it back and nobody knows.....Also its another step closer to 'look what 'I' or 'he' can do' rather than just chilling and enjoying the music.
@dumalucky Ehh, that's all perspective. I love playing reggae on the organ 'cause you can use the pedals to make sick dub beats, and the upper and lower sounds are an awesome contrast, but if I could somehow make some drums happen in there I totally would. It's cool and impressive, sure, but think about what it's like to jam with this guy! I bet it's fun as all hell.
@mwilhelmus I dont know? I just think there is a line that can be crossed , and then you are watching a circus act rather than listening to music. On the other hand, music acts that have almost circus like stage performances.. I dont mind that.. Its this kinda.. hey Im a freak who can do everything stuff.. just puts me off.. Most musicians know about 'question and answer' phrases .. Its just not interesting to watch someone 'talk' to themselves.
very talented indeed. i think the only problem with this kind of thing is that it comes off about as live as a karaoke track. you miss the whole human interaction and real instrument elements. but make no mistake...this guy has more talent in his left foot then i utilize in my whole body.....literally.
@GuitarDemystified if you watch that corne guy he does live looping it actually sounds like a living thing but his actual voice is dull and the music sounds very generic but he at least makes it sound like different parts come in and out.
@drmheff Most likely a MIDI guitar with the bottom string or two mapped to bass. What I can't figure out is how he's using a pedal synth for MIDI input. The only ones I know of are the Taurus family and as far as I know they don't have MIDI capabilities.
pretty dope, would be cool to walk into a shopping mall and see you preforming this, I think my mind would be blown thinking its a song on the radio and then seeing that one guy is doing it.
@jewdude777 Midi kicks ass. I can play guitar like wild but I can't even sing Mary Had a little lamb and play it on guitar. I've tried too, just not talented that way. I'm always impressed by guys and gals that do this.
@secretsaregood I am the same, However I can play twinkle twinkle little star with appergios and know can even do my own faster synchopated version of tts but still just appergios on the base line of the keyboard and too much synchopation and thats me have to start again lol. On the other hand listening to music I do come up with lots of ideas just cant play back what i make up if i try and put in other sections lol.
Love the guitar sound you've got. If you sing, I'd like to hear some tracks with you doing that too. Overall, intriguing and fascinating. Nice relaxed sense of beat, not rushed, just right. Comments about your being better if you play to a track, don't get the point. It's that you're mastering the technology. Very cool.
A Beautiful Contrast of Mind Altering Euphoria, Entising the InterSanctum of Music and ARTISTRY, thus Bringing Forth, and Inspiring the Talents within our own Self. (That said, This is one AWESOME Video) Thanx for Posting
Honestly, as soon as you've got the laptop going, the whole "one man band" thing is lost on the audience. I'd rather just hear you jamming out to a well prepared backing track.
ReductioAdAbsurdum, I do the one man band thing to. ONe thing I can say about backing tracks is that they are incredibly restrictive in a live setting. Playing multiple instruments simultaneously live allows for improvisation with all. Thing is, though, gtheka didn't put that drum solo in that would have made the one man band critics far more intrigued, even though I KNOW he can do one(and I'd like to see it).
How come if a man learns to play guitar and play a harmonica at the same time we call him genius but if he goes that extra mile and puts two cymbals between his leggs we call him insane?
@PlasticExplosive123 I can't remember either. They guy was REALLY dry like Steven Wright but younger. I think he was playing a guitar while doing his stand up. Pretty damn funny though.
@bohs1984 How come if a man uses someone else's comedy lines it gets a laugh, but if I point that out on a post I look like a petty trolling dickhead?
@cmrxs Probably because even a post over the internet conveys the true nature of a person. Nobody thought I was trying to steal a comedian's line because it is such a well known joke. Perhaps you meant your comment well and perhaps you meant it to be a pedantic horse’s ass. Only you know for sure.
hey dudes, don't take it so seriously. I'm just having fun here. I'm a professional musician and I play with a band as well. Besides, this is a pretty old video, and I'll post something new soon that will be way better.
The five parts are: 2-drums + Bass (midi), Chords Midi), Melody/solo (guitar). If you were to write a score for a band, you could do it in 3-4 parts. Yes, guitar strings are split into 6 midi channels and access different samples.
Since he has a midi guitar, it is possible the he has one pickup normal, the other midi therefore using a bass preset on his midi pickup whilst sounding like a normal guitar with the other pickup
this guy puts on a show..its called entertainment ..not just sitting in a room and playing Pink Floyd solos to a camera ( which you do quite nicely by the way)..Just remember different strokes for different folks!
The only thing that's impressive is being able to use the footboard while he playes what he plays the guitar. If I spent some time, I would have no problem doing this. But there's people downtown in my city that do this better (outside performers with bass drums on their backs and symbals between their feet; I'm sure you've seen them), but it's all for naught. I'd rather spend that time improving my music, not playing all at once. And since he uses midi anyway, it especially redundant.
Yes, if I spent some time getting a footboard like that, and coordinating my feet to do it, I would have no problem with it. But it's all for naught, thusly wasted time, since it doesn't add anything to my music, only ups the difficulty curve of doing it right with less impressive stuff in it.
but it's neat for the same reason you'd watch a freak-show. It's not because the music is great. No matter what you say, it would sound better if it were a full band. But yes, it's impessive doing this, but from a musician-point of view, I'd record one part at the time. But I suppose this draws a different crowd ;D
Can you ,please tell me what is that thing that you're using with your feet? I would greatly appreciate any info and advice...I would like to learn how to use that! Cheers!
yeah, ... and what, his eyelashes are too short? are you shittinme? This guy is talented beyond 99% of the performers who attempt such musical disciplines.
it's like learning to juggle, you start with one ball, then when you can handle it easily, you add another and then another. I played girar for 10 years before singing along with it. I would say, the sooner you try adding other tasks, the sooner you will master them all.
good sounds.... great chords... sounds like you're just going through the circle of 5ths, jazz style... I'm surprised at the speed between your playing & the output. In my experience, the better sounding sounds always add more of a delay; you must have a pretty good rig. Cutting any discs of the 1manband project?
Thanks for the feedback everyone! If you're in the Boston Area and would like to check out this project, I will be playing live very soon coming up in spring '08. I'll keep you posted!

good sounds.... great chords... sounds like you're just going through the circle of 5ths, jazz style...

Great job, strange guitar sound ,how do you get that. Sounds great and difficult to do but the result is awesome.

the guitar runs off of MIDI sounds, its like turning the guitar into an electric keyboard.

That is a seriously cool setup you have there. Using the midi piano pedal thing as a drum kit is genius. Great ingenuity!

Hey that's pretty neat. Your MIDI guitar tracks very well. What are you using for a pitch to MIDI converter?
