  • Is it just me, or does anyone else think one of the background singers sounds like Sandy Denny? 0_o

  • it's like....steampunk celtic.

  • 2:12 is the most epic part!!!! i love this band!!

  • Dudes, the lineup of the band on this vid. can be classified as the steriotypical Dungeon's and Dragon's adventurers.

    Left to right.

    barbarian

    paladin

    rogue

    bard

and cleric. If anyone agrees, plese press the button over there............? ---->

  • I... I can't believe I only just now found this version of one of my favorite songs! Oh Abney Park I've officially fallen in love with you now!

  • I just fucking adore this song.

  • Something about the way his voice croons out these lyrics makes me shiver. Perfect song for a tension filled scene between lovers when writing! <3 Abney Park is one of the best bands ever!

  • Amazing song. Simply amazing.

  • is it just me who thinks that they look like action figures in this picture?

now i want a Captain Robert and a Nathaniel Johnstone figure =(

  • @t60012 I was just thinking the exact same thing.

  • No... its the best version I have heard so far! If I knew that this version was to played

at my funeral I would die very happy!

  • No....the best version I have heard so far! I agree with all the comments before

and after this one. If this was played at my funeral I would be happy!

  • No....the best version I have heard so far!

  • best love song/poem thing ever

  • This is AWESOME!!!!!

  • My amazing wife of 17 years died just more than a month ago. This sings what I want to howl. Thank you.

  • @RoscoesRiffs I am sorry for your loss.

  • @RoscoesRiffs I am so sorry to hear about your loss. **hugs**

  • @RoscoesRiffs I don't know what to say to that, but <3 anyway. When I lost a pet, all I heard all day was 'in a better place, there'll be more' but what touched me the most was when my friend said, 'I'm not really good at comforting and stuff so I don't know what to say.' I cried all over again because he was honest.

  • i just abused the replay button this is my 40th time tonight listening to this song.

  • This song reminds me a bit of Poe's Annabelle Lee..."And so all the night-tide, I lie down by the side

Of my dalring, my darling, my life and my bride

In her sepulchre there by the sea

In her tomb by the sounding sea."

    Anybody else note the similarity?

  • @AspergirlSithstress If you're into the Cruxshadows at all, Rogue does a spoken reading of Annabel Lee on their album Paradox Addendum... It gives me chills to listen to it!

  • @LittlePurpleFey Oh my goodness will you message me with a link on Youtube if there is one?

  • I can't get over the line 'your maidenhead still is your pillar of light'. I can't POSSIBLY be the only one finding this hilariously wtf. I love this song. But still.

  • @saosina It's an old Irish poem translated into English, so it would be a bit weird.

  • @saosina "your maidenhead still is your pillar of light" pretty much means she's still a virgin.

  • @jextheemperor Well that she maintains her purity despite losing her virginity out of wedlock. Considering the society in which this poem was composed, this is a rather strong and controversial remark. "The sanctity of our enigmatic, unknowable love does not require the approval of your institutions---we are isolated in a realm of social behavior only we can understand and, we understand its holiness/goodness"---Wuthering Heights sentiment---the love of Heathcliff and Catherine

  • @EquineViolinist I always took it to mean they "did what was right' & didn't fornicate. Or if anything sexual happened, they perhaps eloped.

  • @EquineViolinist @EquineViolinist I always took it to mean they "did what was right' & didn't fornicate. Or if anything sexual happened, they perhaps eloped. Ahhh still listening, he says "my wife, and you're dead". Makes more sense now that they married.

  • thanks for posting this. its kinda hard to find.

  • The Rusby and this one are my favourites too, with this one having the slight edge. It's very edgy and dark, partly because structurally the tune reminds me of The Velvet Underground's "Venus in Furs".

  • This one is my 2nd fav my first is by Kate Rusby cause she sings it the way the poem aught to sound in my opinion anyways cause its a sad story and the way she sings it sounds amazing but also saddening

  • I tried to listen to version of Kate Rusby, it's not that bad but still it doesn't sounds exactly how I think the poem is supposed to sound... Abney Park version is closest in my opinion, because of the deep voice (which should be deeper and with more emotions) :) Just my opinion, but every version of this is great :)

  • One of the best versions of this song that I've heard.

  • that's actually exactly what I thought the first time I listened to it...Annabell Lee

  • dose any one besides me think that the sound of this band is totaly erotic?

  • You are ingenious! Yes, I think so :]

  • ingenious?...nah i think i'm just a tad horney...let's face it, finn is dropdead beautifull and she sings very well and she dances even better.

  • scratch the last comment...actualy i could build an airship if i had the materials...but this son is just so heart filled and erotic...i could have a good time with this song....a realy good time.

  • It's a 17th century irish poem about a person mourning their childhood friend/lover, I guess it could seem erotic if you look at it that way, but it's really quite a depressing story.

  • actualy i was refering to the passion put into the song. and the beat could help keep a good rythem while haveing a bit o' fun. but i did know it was a poem (17'th century and irish) but from the lyrics it sounds like a man lost his wife/lover more than any thing. buy with the passion put into lyrics alone added to abney park's music just kick jumps the erotic factor. now only if i had a woman to bed...but that's a story for another time...

  • very well, to be honest, I kind of felt the same way the first time I heard this song, either way you've got to admit they did a very good job

  • I do too :)

  • @drstrangeman It's Captain Roberts voice. If you think he's good in this song, check out their song "Love" ;)

  • @drstrangeman If by erotic you mean I get turned on, get a boner, or get hot for a woman, then yes.

  • @drstrangeman I think it's his voice. *drool*

  • @emROARS well when fynn was with them she was able to sing very well. and she could dance...bit of a twig of a girl though. but she is able to make do with what she has.

  • @emROARS His voice is like velvet sliding over silk...

  • @drstrangeman I have discovered my new sex tunes xD

  • @drstrangeman I totally agree... Also I am really glad to hear that I am not alone in this world about this :P

  • does this remind anyone of the poem annabell lee by edgar allen poe?

  • It does, actually.

    Weird. o0

  • it is that poem it's the musical version

  • this is the song for my sister who past away i love the sound of this song.

  • and may your sister dance blissfully in the heavens for eternity

  • thank you darling

  • Beautiful.^^
