I don't really see why not to try and grab an attacker's arm. If you can grasp it, then he cannot use his arm to attack the you, since you are holding it. Even if this is for a fraction of a second, can't you use your knife then to stab him, while holding his arm imobile? Sure, reflex causes him to move his arm in the first place, but doesn't reflex also allow you to move out of his way or potentially beat his reaction time?
IF YOU have a knife WHY would you try to grab his arm?? And I leave it up to you. You haven't actually tried grabbing the knife hand in a real situation have you :) A knifer would have your wrist cut completely off the instant you tried to grab his hand.
You could NOT grab my hand for instance when I attack you as it is impossible! You put yourself in more danger by trying to grab the knifer's knife hand! Come to one of my workshops and I will show you that it does not work!
Once I met a guy who put his hand on his pocket...he was pretending he was taking a knife out of his pocket. He put his hand close to his shoulder and the hand was touching his skin. This created the illusion that he actually had a knife hidden in his hand, but he did not have a knife!! How can we counterattack such a situation?
if grabbing or even just manipulating the arm attacking with a knife is such an unfeasible strategy, far too risky, then why do the highly battle proven styles of the Phllipines and Indonesia, as well as the Japanese, practice them extensively?
IT has been my own extensive experience with these "experts" that although they are great when holding the knife, their empty handed stuff is often rubbish and would see them killed in a real situation. My offer to ANYONE to try and grab my arm and lock it, the one holding the knife is still open! No-one has ever been able to do this without having their arms cut to shreds so to speak!
@danielskipp1 actually if you talk Philippines and Indonesia.. they don't lock they break. they also do a very similar thing to this from my experience. Japanese generally trained under different situation.. ie armour vs armour where movement was not so easy as apposed to the farmers and street warriors of Philippines and indonesia.

@kosombi
THe rule is, if he moves, HIT HIM! If he was going to stab you, he would already have done so!

Erle, mate,

I am having a logical difficulty with that.
