  • haha I just finally realized what was going on in these credits after all these years. For some reason I never noticed Oscar throwing the cigar in the fountain.

and yeah, it'd just be easier if CBS Home Video just left everything intact.

  • @vassephardi in and around midtown manhattan you can walk down almost any street and find a spot that was used in movies/tv/still photos - part of what makes nyc what it is.

go to 1049 park ave. and ask for felix or oscar, the doorman is asked this almost every day.

the opening/closing sequences for the show were almost all nyc locations as well as a few episodes - "new car", "decathlon" etc.

the location for this clip is the old columbus circle fountain in front of the old gulf/western hq.

  • @vnisanian2001 Are you serious about that?

That really stinks. Some of the best parts of those shows was their soundtrack. You hear them today and you still remember The Odd Couple, etc...

    CBS-Paramount stinks.

  • @ingravegreen Everyone from the cast is still living (8/2010), except Tony Randall and Brett Sommers. The creator, Garry Marshall, is also alive.

  • @Oceanpacifica1968 Who'd Brett Sommers play?

And I heard that Tony Randall had his first kid when he was like age 70. Good for him.

  • @vassephardi She played Oscar's ex-wife Blanche.

  • @vinylrecord68 Oh, I see. Thanks.

Is she the one Jack Klugman had his son with who actually played Oscar as a kid in a flash-back scene in one episode?

  • @vassephardi Yes. Their son's full name is Adam Somers Klugman.

  • This version of the closing with the fountain was only used during 1973-74 (season 4), the music arrangement is the same as '72-73.

  • and they did the same thing w/ their DVD's of all of the "Happy Days" post-S1 DVD's as well (music-clearance-wise) too.

  • i've stood at that exact spot...

  • @wiedep That's one of the best things of this show:

It was filmed in real streets and spots.

I'm from Brooklyn and I've been to several of the spots in which this show was filmed.

Unlike other shows all filmed in a studio in California. These episodes were all in real life New York City.

    Good stuff here.

  • @vassephardi only exterior scenes were shot in manhattan (nyc).

like most l.a. based sit-com's they would send a unit with the actors to "cover" certain scenes on location during the summer before full production began - these were edited in to the studio recordings.

this show had more of this in that era, would not be surprised if t.r. pushed for this.

  • this scene is at columbus circle, where the paramount/gulf+western hq is...

  • It is interesting you know where this was taken. Somone asked where it was taken on a channel with the opening credits from the season 1.

  • The 1st season of the closing credits w/ Oscar and Felix at the water fountain in NYC.

Also, the last season to feature Oscar and Felix in the closing credits.

  • I finally found out my self what season this was from when I looked at the book about this show. I used to keep track of the logos too. Too bad slit box 2 is not on here. I saw an orange one with the 1972 jingle with this one. All the rest of the eps with this have the 1970 jingle.

  • And we can thank CBS-Paramount or CBS Television Distribution whatever they wanna call themselves for plastering those Split Box logos.

  • Good thing I still have the Columbia House VHS collector's set...the original closing logos are still intact.

  • @megamanj2004X: Since Paramount TV no longer exists (Paramount only is involved in TV as Epix now) it makes no sense to have the same old logos on DVD (the Mannix DVD's have the CBS Studios logos now.)

  • @Neville6000 - it's jut fun seeing older logos on TV for nonstalgic value and or a bit of scare factors on some of the logos' jingles. Paramount had some somewhat scary (nowdays, IMO) but nice closing jinlge music on their logos during the '70s and pre-late '80s.

  • @megamanj2004X: If you want to see them so badly, download those programs that let you create logos and re-create the old ones, then rip the Odd Couple DVD's and use video editing software to meld them together.
