They certainly did make monsters a lot more appealing in 4, with two customizable evility slots, kinging, giant and double Magichange, and multiple sets of voices to choose for all them (My favorite change).

I can't wait until I can get a manly sounding dragon and then use him to blow up the world many many times (Final Dragoon >>>>>> Beat Wash as a second magichange skill).

The giant monsters gain a portion of the stats from the monster that fused with them, have an increased range/radius on their attacks (This goes for the character they magichange with, also), can bounce thrown characters a lot farther, and also push normal sized units out of the way when they move.
