This flag means different things to different people, for some good people it is only about heritage and pride in the Southern culture and there is much beauty in the South my parents are from the South but in all fairness there are some that do not share that thought due to their own history and they are not discounted or wrong for not agreeing. Trying to equate a flag which ceased to exist in 1865 with Jim Crow laws a hundred years later is just nonsensical. The flag under which the Jim Crow era briefly flousished was the Stars and Stripes. The battle flag of the CSA is revered today as a symbol of an outnumbered people who fought with incredible bravery against a ruthless and well supplied enemy. Let them celebrate their history in peace.

When the choir was scheduled to sing "I wish I were in Dixie" I could not sing it, I did not think the white kids should not sing it, they could but I went to my teacher and simply told her being the off spring of Slaves, having grown up knowing my history and seeing the ongoing effects of that terrible time, I could not and would not sing that song.....

During the War of 1812, the British captured the US capital of Washington and burned the White House and Senate Buildings almost to the ground (the exterior walls remained, but had to be torn down and replaced due to fire damage). I think the British also captured the US capital during the revolution, but don't quote me on that.
