You focus your camera to a screen inside the adapter and to change the depth of field you change the aperture settings on the lens you are using with the adapter. the faster the lens the shallower your depth of field will be.
I like the Letus35FE better than Brevis since it flips the image, which is a blessing because it is so hard to shoot anything with an upside down image, and it is around $400 cheaper.
Hi! I am thinking of getting digital cam to make home movies, and being a stills photographer I have many great Nikkor lenses. I also have the very nice Canon FDn 20mm 2.8, Kan I do anything useful with that lens on a film camera? If you know of any good sites that are helpful, informing about adapters and stuff and different combinations. Or if you have any good tips.
yeah i know it's not cheap that's why I'm all worried over this "pending" thing....by the way are you familiar with matte boxes do u think they can be mounted on an slr lens?
You can usa a mattebox but I am not sure if you can attach it on the lens. What you can do is you can use a rail system (which you will need anyways with your adapter) to place the matte box right in front of the lens.
I also have exchanged my Letus35A with a Letus35FE and the flip version is losing more light compared to to letus35A. With a f1.8 lens it is losing around 1.5 stops of light. This means you need about 3 times more light with the adapter on. So for indoor shootings you need a very good light setup. For outdoors it is not a problem. Another thing you can do is lowering the shutter speed to 1/24(or 1/30). It will help a lot.
The reason they say the flip version is better for certain camcorders such as HV20 is you can zoom all the way in to avoid vignetting. I didn't have any problems with my Letus35A + Elura90 combination but after buying my HV20 I couldn't use the Letus35A with it since I couldn't zoom enough to avoid vignetting. It was getting out of focus. So I had to change it with the Flip version.
Contact to Quyen and ask if he received the payment. But don't worry, you won't have any problems. When I bought it they had a different website and didn't offer feedback. It is probably because of late update.
Hi, absolutely brilliant idea. You obviously know what you're doing. I use stepup rings so I can use my 35mm colkin filters; it never occurred to me that I could use my 35mm lenses on my Elura. Could you list the reasons why you have done this? Is it mainly because of the aesthetic, shallow depth of field?
Shallow depth of field plays a major role but also using 35mm lenses gives a softer look. To mimic film using only 24p is not enough. It still creates very sharp and realistic images. Movies doesn't look realistic. The idea is to create a dream world apart from the real one. Using film cameras for this is way expensive.
Very cool man - makes your camcorder shoot like a film camera. BTW, I love that 50mm 1.8 by Canon. For $70, it instantly became my XTi's new best friend.
I got mine for $20. Since FD lenses are 20 years old they are very cheap. I recently bought a 28mm f2.8 FD Wide angle Macro lens for $20. You can buy an 50mm f1.4 FD lens for less than $70
FD? I'm sorry. I was referring to the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens for the SLR Cameras. I'm guessing the FD is different built specifically for the camcorders? Irregardless, it's a great lens to see in use. It really makes camcorder vids look like film.
FD is also for SLR cameras. The difference with EF lenses is it is manual no auto focus. The idea to use FD lenses is they are cheap. You can use FD lenses with your EF lens camera with the use of a $20 adapter.
how can you fit than letus onto a tiny camera like that? i thought you would need something like the canon XL2, something that size in order to use that
My camcorder has a 34mm lens thread. The letus I have is the 58mm version. I am using two step up rings for mounting it to my camcorder but the size of the camcorder doesn't make a difference. The specs of the camcorder is important. If you look at the link provided in the video information you can see the pictures of my setting.
footage is awfully blurry. who cares if you get good depth of field when the subject is pictured in low resolution? sucks

Vsansal, great footage, nice cat and all my best for the future, it's nice to try to do something, and it's easy to criticize.
By the way, i'm looking for an "old" Letus35A ...
All the best to you.

The music goes DREADFULLY with the actual footage. Bad filmmaking.

Being honest from my perspective. However, it was a test so I shouldn't be so harsh :)

That's fine. I was just trying to see how it would perform indoors with a cheap camcorder.

I don't have 1.4 but it is really hard to focus using it if you open it all the way.

and you don't miss the high definition look you paid for. I'm using a sony V1U camera.

You don't miss anything. You can check my video that I made with my Letus35FE + HV20 and download the hi-def version to see for yourself.

I did contact Quyen and was told that it will clear up in a couple of days...it's been 2 days now and I'm impatient when it comes to new toys..lol

Well I understand and also it is not a cheap toy. But don't worry, you will get your toy :)

how much light did you lose with your adapter? and how was adjusting to that loss?
I'm using a letus35flip enhanced and it's a difficult adjustment. Grain everywhere, when shooting in doors.

letus35A and FE? I thought the only models were a flip enhanced. Letus standard. And letus XL series.
From what I've heard from two different sources. One from Brevis Dennis W. is that their adapter only loses .5 to .7 stops of light. THATS GOOD.
fourthwall1 4 years ago
oops duh, nevermind I got it. Why would they say, the flip enhanced is better for certain camera's.
Would you go back to a letus35A?
I'm in the middle of deciding to return.

i ordered the letus35 flipped enhanced with paypal. Paypal says it's paid while Letus website is saying "pending" this ever happen to?
