It wasn't just Moss that was great that year(although Moss was incredible.) The whole team was pretty good. I can't believe they didn't get to the superbowl that year.
When you think about it though, when the Vikings finally do get that superbowl trophy, don't you think all the heartbreak will make it that much sweeter? I mean, everything that we have been through as Vikings fans can finally be forgotten and we will finally be able to say: The Minnesota Vikings, superbowl champions. Think about how satisfying that will sound to all Vikings fans. Go Vikings!!!!!!
1998 was the first year I really ever payed any attention to football. Being 9 years old at the time I didn't understand the heartbreak Vikings fans had gone through over the years. When the Falcons beat the Vikings in overtime I ran upstairs and cried like a baby for a good half an hour. I guess you could say I learned my "Vikings lesson" that year. What I mean by "Vikings lesson" is it does not matter how good they are, they will break your heart eventually during the season.
@taker1114 I know how you feel. I started paying attention to the vikes right after they lost to the Eagles in the Wildcard game in the 09 playoffs, so I learned my Vikings lesson right away, and I'm glad it was right away.
you basterds at KDWB have cursed us with your stupid radio bull shit, every time you make a song we lose an important game. you are the curse KDWB you are!
I guess it's 50+ years and counting eh viking fans...lol. Don't worry though, nobody from minnesota ever wins, any professional team up here loses. The Twins are on the verge of being swept by the Yanqueens yet again. Barring a miraculous comeback, which would be nice, they'll be another team from minnesota that can't win a fucking championship. Isn't Minnesota sick of this shit by now, I mean really!
This is a Will Smith song from back in the ole' days. I wanna say late 80's or early 90's. Within that time frame is when this song was released by Will Smith, an artist who won the very first ever rap grammy (just a little trivia). Oh and by the way, in accordance to the song, Favre did have it going on Green Bay cause they won the SB two years prior and won the NFC championship a year prior to this as well. In any event, when the vikes think they're SB bound it's rather cute.
i know this has nothing to do with the vikings but lately when i hear this song all i can think of is new miami heat player da'sean butler. it could be because i'm a diehard WVU fan (football and basketball).
Don't blame the kicker dumbasses, Vikes were up 7 still after the missed kick, blame it on the tired ass Defense letting them go right down the field. John Randle was not in the game cause he got hurt, and no one stepped up to the challenge the dirty bastards ;(( missing ring for sure Broncos...I'm still haunted by that game!
Too bad the Falcons actually had a good team. If I recall, the Vikes had a 20-7 lead. Even if the Vikes had won, they would of lost to the Broncos, like we did.
tuggy has a point. though andersen missed the biggest kick of his life and practically lost the game, you can't blame the WHOLE thing on him. vikes deserved to lose that game, they got waaaay too aggressive. If it weren't for a couple of dumb turnovers the falcons never would have built any momentum.
98 vikings will always be my favorite vikings team.. Hopefully we can do it in Miami this year for all previous great vikings teams... Go vikes Wooooo!
you were the best offence in the league with a mediocre at best defence. As soon as a team figured out how to stop that passing attack, you had nothing. And I'm a bears fan
The Vikes got 8 pro bowl players this year, more than any team in the NFL. We got the first round bye, so just listen to the words ''were goin to Miami''
Why are viking fans and cardinals fans fighting anyways? Last time i checked neither of you had won a super bowl. Both teams suck, lets leave it at that
Escobar9300 why are you even here. I don't have anything against the Cards. I would even go so far as to call them my 2nd favorite team. What the hell could you possibly have against the Vikes?
face it the cardinals are a joke team dont beleive me watch the playoffs, i mean we have lost 3 of 4 and we still got a better record than the stupid cardinals
man i was 9 when we lost to the falcons, it broke my heart we were the best team to ever play a NFL season in my opinion and some how we let the falcons in the super bowl and gave elway an easy ring when it should have been us, hopefully we some how can win this year we got the talent to do it but were cursed
Apart from the fact that they strangled your precious Vikings and nullified your golden boys Favre and Peterson in the heart of Arizona in prime time. Its okay though, I understand that has to sting. It'll be okay. Enjoy the view of the Super Bowl when it's the Cardinals Vs the Colts and the Vikings are long gone from the playoffs. ;)
Which would be clever except without Fitzgerald we would still be a top flight team due to guys like Boldin, Warner, Wells, Dockett, Breston, Stevens-Howling, and Ghram. Nice try jagg off.
Yeah, youre right, because it was Larry Fitzgerald that broke through your lousy offensive line and sacked Favre 3 times right? Oh wait, it wasnt? Thats whats I thought. Fitzgerald didnt snuff Peterson either. Arizona is far from a one man team and we proved it when we spanked the Vikings in the heart of Arizona.
Ha! The Packers are idiots, their out there playing checkers while the Cardinals are playing chess. We gave them nothing but preseason offence and defence this past sunday and they gassed out their whole starting line to play the whole game. Those dummies gave us 60 minutes of footage to review for next week while all Arizona gave up was 60 minutes of vanilla offence and defense in a meaningless game. Green Bay will be a one and done team. Mark my words.
breston has been non-existent this year, steven-howling is a marginal special teams player at best, and you included your punter in reasons you have a top flight team.... yep thats the make up of a "top flight team"
That is true, but in 98 the vikings were the team. They would have stomped the broncos. It would have been ugly. This year the saints, or the vikings are going to win the super bowl. Im a vikings fan through and through but the saints are the only thing standing in our way. And after they stomped the pats, they are a threat.
If the Vikings would have beaten the Cardinals, I would have felt very confident about them...but the fact that they lost means bad things for the Vikings, I think. Sure, any team is going to lose, but the way in which they shut down AP and picked off favre twice (when he'd only thrown 3 picks all year) says a lot...
As a Bronco fan, I don't think that there is no way in hell you would have pounded us.
But, I will say this: When Gary Anderson missed the FG, he robbed the country of witnessing the best SB of all-time. It could have been the first OT game in the Super Bowl. I don't know who would have won, but it would have been a classic.
The 98 Vikings and Broncos would have wiped the floor with any of the 00's SB teams, including the Cheatriots. Those teams were better than Dallas's 90's teams as well.
Well, good for you. Hopefully we can get a franchise QB, deal with this Marshall situation the right way, keep getting the right players on offense and defense, and get back to where we used to be.
Why not Moss for dropping a touchdown in the endzone? Why not the defense? Why not the coaching for getting too aggressive toward the end of the first half? The one field goal was a fluke, and the Vikings still had the lead, so why not the defense? Quit picking on the kickers, guys.
You do understand that in the second half, Randy Moss dropped a touchdown pass in the endzone when he was wide open forcing the Vikes to settle for a field goal cheating themselves out of 4 potential points, right? But he dropped it. Did you watch this game? There were TONS of miscues, the kick was just icing on the cake.
And if Randy Moss catches a pass in the endzone when wide open as opposed to letting it slip through his hands, Vikings go to the Super Bowl. Simple as that. :)
Mosses pass? No, it was actually in the second quarter. But that's 4 more points they could have had instead of settling for a field goal. I'm not saying to let Andersen off the hook, because it is pathetic that he couldn't make the biggest kick of his life. I'm merely saying don't pin ALL the blame on him. :D
Actually you DO hear Bills fans bringing up what happened before the 4th quarter. Bills fans are probably the only people who make note that their team made so many mistakes before Norwood's kick that the wide right field goal was just the pathetic icing on top of a sloppy all-round game.
Cause they Failed, the Kicker Failed. They make Excuses for Failures.
2001 Patroits Example = If VInateri didn't make that Field Goal, we would hear about "Patriots didn't stop the rams in the last possesion" You dont hear cause they Won.
Same thing here, If Gary makes the Kick, they wouldn't bring up the whole game.
Yes, it's impossible to have a perfect NFL game. You say that is if it is possible to be a perfect kicker. I'm NOT saying to let Gary off the hook entirely, I'm just saying, he was the icing on the cake. :p
You're going in circles too. There's no such thing as perfection yet you expect Gary Andersen to be perfect, and blame the entire game on his one kick. :p
THANK YOU! This is what I've been trying to say the whole time. The game had a lot of miscues. But gfscarface continues to pin the entire game on Anderson's foot.
@a7b7c78 just be happy you didnt have to play the VIKES, we get your joke of a team in pre season so you get a taste just a lil taste of the the big purple machine. and yes, the 98 VIKES would have pounded the living shyt out of you
@a7b7c78 i definitely agree with you. I am die hard purple and gold fan. But we would have lost the super bowl. Our defense what beat up, but it would have been an AMAZING super bowl
yeah we would be untouchable, but rice is turning into a monster, i'd take peterson over any other two players in the league. were bringing it home this year
Whatever way this season goes down, I like the '09 Vikings better.........the '98 team was more explosive, but this '09 team is more well-rounded. And I don't even think they've hit their stride yet.
"Now Green Bay really thought they had it going on, and Drew Brees has a team that's hard to beat...I never see a quarterback hit the mark like Brett Favre can, when he's looking for speed Sid Rice or Berrian get lost when he catches the toss, AP in the back, can break free of the pack, Jared Allen coming in with another QB sack. This is the squad to stir your soul, Minnesota, the chorus: Super Bowl."
Poor Vikings...so close, but so far away. 2009 will be another year the Vikes get pumped up, thinking they'll go to the Super Bowl, only to kick their fans square in the gonads once again.
We lost to Tony Dungy's Buccaneers. They basically rushed the entire game and our d-line was too small to stay dominant. I think the final score was 24-27. But it didn't bug me too much because we destroyed the same team in week 1, 31-7.
'98 was a wild ride. arguably the best offense of all time. vikes moss > pats moss any day.

Doesn't matter when it was, that was 4 points they could have had, which also would have put the game out of reach.
SuperTugz 2 years ago
It does matter, if it was in OT, would it matter? Yes.
If it was in the 4th quarter with a TD lead, would it matter? Yes.
it was before the second half.
If Gary makes that kick it would have been a 10 point lead and hard for the Falcons to comeback, SUPERBOWL for the Vikings!
gfscarface13 2 years ago
And if Moss catches the pass, they have an 11 point lead before andersen's attempt even happens. :) Have a nice day.
SuperTugz 1 year ago
No, everything happens for a Reason.
Vikings have a 7 point lead, Gary Anderson misses his first field goal all Season give the Falcons life.
If Gary Anderson makes the Field Goal. Vikings win and go to the SuperBowl.
You dont hear Bills fans bringing up what happend before the 4th quarter so why do you?
everything happens for a reason.
Gary Failed.
gfscarface13 1 year ago
Actually you DO hear Bills fans bringing up what happened before the 4th quarter. Bills fans are probably the only people who make note that their team made so many mistakes before Norwood's kick that the wide right field goal was just the pathetic icing on top of a sloppy all-round game.
SuperTugz 1 year ago
You know why, they bring up what happend?
Cause they Failed, the Kicker Failed. They make Excuses for Failures.
2001 Patroits Example = If VInateri didn't make that Field Goal, we would hear about "Patriots didn't stop the rams in the last possesion" You dont hear cause they Won.
Same thing here, If Gary makes the Kick, they wouldn't bring up the whole game.
ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A PERFECT NFL GAME
EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON
Gary makes the Kick, Vikings go to the SuperBowl.
gfscarface13 1 year ago
Yes, it's impossible to have a perfect NFL game. You say that is if it is possible to be a perfect kicker. I'm NOT saying to let Gary off the hook entirely, I'm just saying, he was the icing on the cake. :p
SuperTugz 1 year ago
I remember watching the VIkings Falcons game when Gary Anderson was about to kick the ball and everybody was saying "Vikings SuperBowl"
Gary Anderson 35 for 35 Field Goals attemp, misses a 38 Yard Field Goal at Home costing the Vikings.
Gary makes the 38 yard field goal with 2:07 left in the NFC Title game, Vikings in the SuperBowl. Simple as that.
gfscarface13 1 year ago
Randy moss catches a TD in the second quarter, then the Vikes have an 11 point lead before Andersen's attempt even happens. kthxbai
SuperTugz 1 year ago
See now you're going in circles supertugz.
Everything happens for a reason.
There is no such thing as a Perfect NFL game.
Gary makes kick, Vikings in SuperBowl
You can thank Gary for that. Im not a Vikings fan by the way. Just saying the truth.
gfscarface13 1 year ago
You're going in circles too. There's no such thing as perfection yet you expect Gary Andersen to be perfect, and blame the entire game on his one kick. :p
SuperTugz 1 year ago
Big Difference between Perfect Game and Perfect Kicking percentage. Gary Anderson in his own dome with NO crowd Noise. MISSED
If he makes it, Vikings go to the SuperBowl.
gfscarface13 1 year ago
And if Moss catches the touchdown then it doesn't even come down to the kick in the first place.
SuperTugz 1 year ago
Why are you repeating yourself?
If Gary makes the kick, Vikings go to the superbowl.
Only losers make Excuses for Failures.
gfscarface13 1 year ago
If Gary makes the kick the Vikings go to the Superbowl.
If Moss catches that pass the Vikings win the Superbowl.
If Cunningham doesn't underthrow Moss twice (once in OT) the Vikings go to the Superbowl.
If we don't fumble right before half time the Vikings go to the Superbowl.
There were plenty of opportunities.

THANK YOU! This is what I've been trying to say the whole time. The game had a lot of miscues. But gfscarface continues to pin the entire game on Anderson's foot.

@a7b7c78 just be happy you didnt have to play the VIKES, we get your joke of a team in pre season so you get a taste just a lil taste of the the big purple machine. and yes, the 98 VIKES would have pounded the living shyt out of you
ggqbc 1 year ago
@a7b7c78 i definitely agree with you. I am die hard purple and gold fan. But we would have lost the super bowl. Our defense what beat up, but it would have been an AMAZING super bowl

1998 was the most painful of them all. Even more painful then the super bowl losses or the hail mary, cause that was our year and we blew it.

To this day I haven't seen any replays or clips from that game. I refuse to for the rest of my life.

Sorry, I'm Italian ... I've never seen those pictures, where can I find them. Thanks, Go Vikings!

98 was a heart breaker but this is our year baby! god if we had moss and sharper back we would be unstopable
Rossow84 2 years ago 3
yeah we would be untouchable, but rice is turning into a monster, i'd take peterson over any other two players in the league. were bringing it home this year

This is the squad to stir your soul, Minnesota, the chorus: Super Bowl."

jkmommy 2 years ago
Poor Vikings...so close, but so far away. 2009 will be another year the Vikes get pumped up, thinking they'll go to the Super Bowl, only to kick their fans square in the gonads once again.
Vikings = Destined to fail.

YES. completely true!

Redemption this year. South Beach here come the Vikings. 1998 still leaves me hurtin where it counts.
spyder79z 2 years ago 2
I think the Vikings will finally find redemption this year in Miami. Peterson and Favre - those two are the keys.
gasparing2003 2 years ago
Except Favre is pitiful in the Playoffs, so have fun with that. He hasn't done shit since SB 32 in the playoffs...except lose games.

man that 1998 Vikings team was so special, they would have destroyed Denver in Miami that year! Moss was unbelievable!!!

what was the only team the vikings lost to in '98? (other than the falcons in the champ. game)
MrStoopidfilms 2 years ago
We lost to Tony Dungy's Buccaneers. They basically rushed the entire game and our d-line was too small to stay dominant. I think the final score was 24-27. But it didn't bug me too much because we destroyed the same team in week 1, 31-7.
