how do you put chords to a melody you create? can anyone tell me. because i come up with heeps of great little meoldies but i can never seem to put chords to them.
@TheDudeFrom0Z Melodies come from chords that is played underneath those notes. Try to find a common ground within groups of melodies and see what chord can compliment those notes. Do you know any chord theory?
@TheDudeFrom0Z Hey m8, melodies can be derived from chords that is played underneath those notes. Try to group your melodies together and try to find a common chord(s) that can work well with those notes. Do you know any chord theory? After the chord theory is placed what Tommy is talking about here is that just by knowing chord theory, it doesn't always make it SOUND good. Try to think of how other instruments backup melodies. In this case, driven by moving bass lines, just like a piano piece

Thanks so much for posting all these videos of TE's SLC workshop. My husband was at the concert in Salt Lake. He had Tommy sign his Up Close video for me. It was the first one I got and one I learned my first TE tune from (Blue Moon). Thanks again!! cheers, BB
@forbebe That concert and class was the most inspiring thing I have ever experienced in my musical journey... Simply amazing!!! If he ever gets within 300mi of me again to do a Master Class like that I WILL be there!!!
His command of the fretboard is uncanny. Like he said, "playing the guitar like a piano". He can play the stuff that I hear in my head. wish I could do that! lol

Is it just me, or does the melody sound like Belinda Carlisle's 'Heaven Is a Place on Earth'?
Go listen, it's almost exactly the same.

His ideas about composing like a piano player, having different basses to the melody, had big influence on my own composition "on the road".
can't thank you enough for posting this video! :)
