would have been cool for that engine to be in those v6 cavalier Z24s. think about it regular 3.1 140HP Z24 how about the TGP turbo 3.1 205HP on about a 800 to 700 lbs lighter car with a 5 speed and call it the cavalier Z24 special
I don't believe that any 1st gen Luminas EVER had the 3.1 turbo. They had the N/A 3.1 though. The only "powerful" engine option would have been the 3.4 twin-cam in some of the Euros and Z34's.
@Halogen360 Your probably right. I had a 94 lumina euro as a first car. It had the 3.1l and the haynes manual had a reference to the "turbo" model. the book covered 89-99 lumina/grandprix (both w-body). It must have been referring to the GP. Mine was slow as dogshit but it was a very reliable car. Had 59K miles when i got it in 2003 and stood up to the severe abuse all the way to 126k when i crashed it. :( it was still running strong too.
Yeah, if the manual said anything about a turbo, it would have been a Grand Prix Turbo of the time as they were the only cars that ever had them. But I used to drive a '92 Lumina base model with the 3.1 and a 3-speed auto, lol. Got it around 67k on the odometer, drove it to around 110k and crashed mine too, lol. It was a very good car to me.
It's a damn shame they never put this engine in a sedan like the STE....or, did they?? I just think it'd be cool to have those 2x rear buckets with the turbo-motor :-P
you people are fuckin retarded-why the hell would you post a video of your car on the dyno-without dyno results? thats a big network airing the intro to a show & thats it. you and everyone else that does this shit is so fucking stupid, you dont deserve this car.
That's pretty good. My 99GTP decided to spin a bearing going out to Ohio one year, so I had to replace the engine then, but other then that, that engine was solid for me. Even after being cammed/intercooled.
I loved my 90 GP Turbo....Coupes came in red or black, sedans in white...They made them in '89 and '90, I think only 1,500 each year...mine was Red. Survived 1 fire, but couldn't survive an engine fire(Turbo blew)...I really miss that car....
The coupes were available in '89 (750 made; 375 red/375 black) & '90 (2,725; no color breakdown available) in red and black. The vast majority got the tan/camel interior, while a handful got the light gray. The 4-door STE was only available with the turbo in '90 (1,000 produced), and came in white or maroon with key colored wheels.
Actually, all the turbos started life as a Grand Prix SE. Pontiac then took them down the street to the ASC/McLaren plant where ASC did the body cladding, and McLaren did the turbo conversion.
Nice car, i have a regular 95 se with a 3.1 turbo in it. Mines getting worked on to have the 5 speed bolted up to it, definetly nice cars. Yours seems pretty clean for its year. Nice car man
I have a 1994 3.1 cavalier..i've been looking for a turbo for it but i can't find any manifolds that would bolt right on...know of any grand prix turbos that i could get the manifolds off and maybe even he trbo too?
Isn't the MAIN difference between the 3.1 LHO and the turboed version is that the turbo one has more nickel content in the engine block and hardened internals to handle the boost?
All it had was a K&N on the turbo (which is why it was so loud).
Stock to the crank its 205HP, it pulled 172WHP on the dyno. It was also pig rich (<10 on air/fuel ratio), so if I could lean that out it would produce more.
Damn shame GM decided to make it wrong wheel drive. :(

They did, they were just really rare.

If you guys read the comments, it pulled 172WHP with an Air Fuel Ratio of less then 10 (aka, pig rich).

yea i think it was called the mclaren grand prix or something.

Pontiac did the body, ASC/McClaren did the Engine and Transmission.
Nowadays kind of a rare car to find, not to many produced. I am happy to have found one with under 100k miles.
tenpin784 4 years ago
yea that is a good find.
3l1t355 4 years ago
ASC did the body kit too...
i've got a 1990 with a few cheap mods, 280hp, 390ft/lbs. torque... barely over 104k miles...

Wouldn't even do it, dude.
For starters...it's a Cavalier.
As well, the engine package in the Grand Prix was developed by McClaren. It's not like it was just a "slap-together deal".
