@LegoBricKing I'd say Ricky, used a lot on Abbey Road...and this is too "defined" to be the Hofner. Then again, I thought Band On The Run was pure Rick, and there seems to be a lot of Fender Jazz on it...
Everyone calls Prince a genius because he plays all the instruments on his albums but this song qualifies Paul to be considered a genius for the same reason (including many others).

Can anyone tell me what chords he's strumming on the acoustic guitar from 2:03 to 3:05 (and especially the chord at 2:38 and the one he switches to at 2:49)? Thanks!
@rkodavey It's just a 12 bar blues in G Play a bar of each chord below G G G G C C G G D D G G He may be using a capo on the third fret and playing the following: E E E E A A E E B B E E
Hey, I just noticed something. At around 2:05, the guitar part sounds the same as what he scats in "Heart of the Country." Same rhythm anyway - I don't know about the pitch. I guess he had the theme in his head and only solidified it until "Ram"
they are just him at his best. playing most of the instruments, and this is him still pumping out some beatles-esque material. wings was great, but some of it got a little cheesy. this stuff is just real experimental music.
I bought this album the first week it was released. It was like buying a new Beatles album for the first time! Truly amazing! Fantastic album!! Amazing he played all the instruments, he followed this with his next Brilliant Lp "RAM"
Paul Made it. All instruments. "The Beatles c´est moi". He said. He used a simple 8 track studer recorder, simply plugged directly back to the recorder. Note that the middle of the song was a second erased part, but gave to the song a real feel.
It's indeed 4 track, although 8-track was already available at that time (a part of the White Album and Abbey Road were recorded with 8 track). It's funny to see how almost 40 yrs onwards the McCartney album and Ram are now being regarded as the holy grail in rock and roll....at the time those albums were released people wondered what was wrong with Macca...well let's just say the man was way ahead of his time ;)
I have some doubts because I had an old paper magazine with an interview with Paul, about this album, and in one of the pictures we could see the "studio" (I think it was some Paul's house part) with a tape machine with a wide tape (1/2 inch I guess) not necessary to 4 tracks only (standard 1/4 inch tape).
@jotape1960 You might be confusing the modern day cassette 4 track 1/4 inch tape with the Studer J37 4 track 1" inch tape recorder that Paul used on this album? The 4 track recorder that Paul used is nothing like the modern day home 4 track recorders. Those 4 track recorders were extremely high end for the time(1970). Apples to oranges in quality. Plus the mixing consoles, microphones, etc, he used were high end. 4 tracks sounds small, but those 4 tracks were the best in the world.
@jotape1960 The basic tracks weere recorded directly into the 4-track console by-passing a soundboard altogether. For some of these songs, Paul transfered the 4-track recordings to 8-track at EMI booking time under an assumed name. Then he filled in the remaining tracks. Maybe I'm Amazed was one of the tracks this was done with. The idea was to record the whole album in secret. There wasn't even any pre-publicity. It just came out to everyone's surprise.
I love this instrumental and have not heard in many years. Now that I have, does anyone notice that Paul's bass is slightly sharp in contrast with the rest of the instruments on this track?
To give an end to all that crap about pros and contras McCartney statements, just notice one thing: Sir Paul's just been the only one of four beatles able to record a whole LP on his own (this, more than once, think of it).
The rest of it, any talented they could be, always needed s.o. else's help 2 record... I don't judge, I just consider raw facts. As they are.
Tobh the 'Paul' I could really do without. Should have rejected it..teh state gets to give u a pat on the back & take possession of your name. Paul's contribution to music & musicianship btw is undoubted, though all that counts is how good the music is. WHether the musican is a virtuoso or not is of no interest.
@Bass69Line This is true. Whether you love or hate his music, he has on multiple occasions recorded entire albums on his own(McCartney 1 & 2 for one thing), playing all the instruments and doing so in an interesting way. Even if one doesn't consider this is a good song, he does get some interesting sounds, on his own. Even Band on the Run, he didn't record it on his own but all he had was Linda, Denny, Geoff Emerick(engineer) and a half baked studio in Nigeria--he still played most of it.
@Bass69Line While I can see your point, that line of logic leads strange places - Prince, for example, has recorded far more classic albums on his own than Macca has. As far as I know, the same goes for Stevie Wonder. Does that make them better than Beatles? Now there's a tasty question...

@Bass69Line "ALL THINGS MUST PASS" by George Harrison. The only other artist to help him on the original release was Bob Dylan, and only two tracks. Other than that, Harrison wrote the whole album himself. Even if others helped him record, it's not about the recording entirely, its more about the feelings, and soul put into writing the songs themselves. George Harrison is far more talented than McCartney any day. In fact, McCartney exploits his past with The Beatles for his own gain. He sucks.
@bearinfantry anyone would have to concede George's first 2 albums crapped over paul"s ...Ram was ok but All Things was brilliant and LITMW was pretty good ...wings "wildlife was shit...and "McCartney" sounds like a demo/bootleg other than Maybe i'm amazed ,,,its just slop.
@bearinfantry All Things Must Pass? Good but not great. Badly over-rated. Thin vocals. Terrible production. Dated mysticism. A third album that's unlistenable, and the other two albums only add up to about 60 minutes of music. There are about 3-4 great songs on it, some good ones, and one plagiarized song. Ram is a far, far more inventive album musically. And McCartney's solo debut may not be to your taste but it's gotten so much critical respect in recent years, we can't call it under-rated.
@TheMrosin "All Things Must Pass" overrated? Really? Let's see what you pointed out....thin vocals? Well that's George's voice. Terrible production? You call the intro to "Awaiting On You All" terrible production?! Dated mysticism? There's PLENTY of eastern mysticism out there right now. Third album un-listenable? Not if you're a musician! "Ram" is one of Paul's best. "All Things Must Pass" was George's finest moment and it was never equaled again as far as I'm concerned.
@bearinfantry I like the beatles. like all four guys--- george was great... i really like all thing must pass... the whole album, but he wasn't more talented than paul, sorry.. this is stupidity... such great as the esb.... george was great.. but paul... you can't compare them....
If it's personal taste, you should just say that you don't like it, rather than offering critiques - unless you are a musician and composer yourself, that is.
This is vintage Paul during the Beatles days writing amazing tunes like this and his guitar playing hasn't been equalled on any album with an exception Band on the Run perhaps.
that because all these songs are really beatle songs just unfinished and the other beatles really didnt wanna finish them so paul did them on his own and released this album.
I was born 1970 when this album arrived. It's like my inside. Best music in the world. If someone said hey" deserted island", one album you can take with you.....this is my music. My life. I never get bored hearing it..better than any Beatle album...in my opoinion..or let's say "more special.
