  • I STILL HAVE THIS ON VHS. CLASSIC PERFORMANCE BY THE LEGENDARY SOULFUL JAMES INGRAM AND THE SOULFUL TAMIA.

  • two VERY underrated singers! #realtalent

  • Who really gave this song a thumbs down.....u all dont really know music and real talent

  • We definitely need a variety show that brings on talent for us to be entertained. I could listen to them all night long. Just wonderful.

  • wow! huh! nice version! i love this song very much!

  • please listen to my version of this song and rate and subscribe. i would love to be the next James Ingram and you would help me make my dream a reality! please

  • Every who is coming down on Tamia for singing Patti Austin's part is missing point of this performance and the premise of the Motown live show. Every week the show would feature an up and coming artist singing with a veteran artist. Usually they would sing one of the classics done by the seasoned artist, thereby introducing them both to each others' respective audiences. Tamia fans might not have been familiar with James Ingram and vice versa. It wasn't a competition, it was a tribute.

  • Amazing! Love James and Tamia!

  • nakaka in love talaga

  • My heart is melting... so wonderful.

  • The duet with Patti Austin and James Ingram cannot be beaten. This was OK but no comparison to the original. I wish they had continued together.

  • @maureenthefirst1

yOU TOTALLY MISSED THE POINT OF THIS. iT WAS A TRIBUTE TO QUINCEY JONES. HE DISCOVERED BITH OF THESE ARTIST. PATTI WAS UNAVAILABLE THIS NIGHT AND TAMIA DID A SAMN GOOD JOB!

  • I agree he is unappreciated but not by people who are in the music business and people who really know music he has won at least one grammy I know maybe two

  • There's a lot of depth and feeling in every note he sings. Very authoritative and masculine, which contrasts her fragile and feminine point of view. When they sing together, every nuance is perfectly synchronized to bring the maximum meaning to every word. Except for the improv at the end, where they let themselves go, it's all about the song and what it really is trying to say and not about showing how good their voices are. That is the coolest way to sing.

  • life is full of music

  • I never thought I would like anyone else singing this song with James Ingram, but Tamia held her own and made me proud. These two should sing together more often. We need more GREAT duets!!!

  • OMG I soooo love James Ingram.. :-) and Tamia wa soo good on this one.. :-)

  • One of Michel LeGrand's most beautiful songs..

  • This songs is in my top 3 best songs of all time. It talks to your heart. Love it.

  • go in youtube and write...UN NEGRO DESKONOCIDO...kis,thanks

  • Great!!

  • I love this song!(omg) They are sing with there souls...WOW

  • Chills @ 2:58... WOW

  • wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice song!

  • That's how it should be! Really! Thank you!

  • That's hot!

  • This is REAL SINGING!!!

  • Wow

  • LOL @ the playa in the background with a girl on each arm @ 1:32

  • One of my all time favorite live performances. this is REAL SINGING, love it love it

  • my old time fav. never tired of watching this. it pierces to the heart.

  • i am never tired of watching this duet...my day is not complete without hearing this song..love it

  • Perfect combination of good singers...I always love and admire James Ingram

  • Fantastic !!!!

  • WOW!

  • Gusto ko yung duet ni Vice Ganda at Zsa Zsa Padilla kanina..cnu may link non?

  • its like james giving lessons in vocal perfectness !!!

  • God that was awesome.....singers ladies and gentlemen!

  • Mrs. Grant Hill threw down on this cut! Very courageous after the way Patti Austin killed it. Great job and James was very gracious in letter her do her thing. Great performance.

  • oh gosh .. goosebumps near the ending l

  • @ricamybelle Yes...I remember watching this performance for the very first time on TV when it originally aired...I was in tears.

  • Dang. James and Tamia. Two of my favs singing.

  • What a comically, crazy rendition... I LOVED It!!!

  • Tamia has a lot of guts to sing this after Patti. But she did a good job. But Patti can only be topped by just a few. Aretha, Whittney(Early years)Mary J,Monica is so under rated too. I would of love to hear Teena Maria do this song.

  • is beautifullllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • With all the editing they do in recording, it's great to hear a voice like his sounding like the recorded version. I was in high school when this song was being played. It's also a theme song from a movie with burt reynolds and Goldie hawn. Best of friends I think. Great romantic movie!! James has spent a lifetime of lending his voice out to movies. Last American virgin and Aladdin Disney. He will never be forgotten his legacy will live long.

  • Nowadays, you don't really find singers like Tamia and James Ingram that have REAL talent. Sad how we value people who have little or no talent, while those who DO have the talent is underrated and forgotten. We need to keep music alive! Good music that is.

  • @tommygurluhm

I agree with you one hundred percent! Unfortunately now you don't have to be able to sing live. These two can sing without the studios help!! Really slept on artist and they sing to each other like your supposed to in a duet.

  • I know what you guys mean under appreciated you don't hear him talked about a lot but he did win a grammy so the people in the music business know about him

  • DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My Dad cherished the original with Patti Austin. Tamia is my all time favorite and under appreciated vocalist. James ain't never changed. They sing the hell outta this song. RIP Dad <3

  • Break it down.... dayum! Love 4:28 and on....go gurl! We all know James is a legend. Truly. Great duet.

  • i will make this my wedding song!

  • a beautiful balladeer and handsome one of my crushes...lol

  • 80'a the best

  • her panties almost fell off

  • LOVE IT.

  • beautiful.

  • Tamia sounds ok, but James Ingram sounds AMAZING, exactly like he sounds on studio recordings, it takes an awesome voice to do that!

  • @Spenelo it-s true ! great voice !!

  • I love them!

  • I love the Cadenza Part!!!! Love song of the Century

  • is this tamyra?of american idol?please let me know..im a fan of tamyra?

  • @cuman012 Tamyra is good, but this is Tamia another very good singer.

  • @cuman012

No it's not. It's Tamia Grant Hill's wife (basket Ball Player) she sings Ther's a stranger in my house.

  • great song...i really love it

  • one of my favorites

  • james is so great and tamia too !

  • One of the greatest ballads of all times!!! The lyrics and the two most amazing singers!!!! Muchas Gracias!!!! Very heartfelt!!!!

  • wOw I feel funny like I forgot how James Ingram gets dooooown!

  • That's the most under rated vocalist of all time right there. He's amazing, and ridiculously under-appreciated

  • @Waszma I agree 1,000%!! He's so under-rated and he has the most amazing voice of all time! I wish he would sing more songs today! :) Hope he knows how much he's loved and appreciated by all of his fans.

  • @Waszma I agree with you 1,000%!! He's so under-rated! I wish he would sing more today! I would love to hear him sing again xo :) Hope he knows he is loved!

  • @ilovegeorgemichael22 So do I ! elodie Bourville je l aime !!

  • @Waszma A statement that reflects an absolute truth.

  • @Waszma Damn right Waszma. Ingram has one great voice and such a distinctive style, he's got it all. He's had a nice career, but you're right, he's WAY under-appreciated.

  • @Waszma so true there are many good vocalist in dat time which were under appreciated

  • @Waszma

    I agree 100%!

  • @Waszma Completely and absolutely agree!! James Ingram has been one of the greatest voices of our generation and yet he is unfortunately the most underrated IMHO.

  • @Waszma you are so right. this guys incredible.

  • Magnifique!

  • Comment removed

  • Danced to this track with Patti Austin on my wedding. Unfortunately we couldn't keep the music playing for too long. Still one of the greatest love songs ever written.

  • great, but think it is better with patty austin.....

  • Alrighty then. I Love Tamia's voice, and thought, nice job, but James was kind of overpowering her, THEN she starts to work it OOUT. GREAT Ad lib at the end, and so musical....so many singers over sing, but they kept it really interesting and TASTEFUL.

They both are a class act, and should do more together. And may I add that Mz. Tamia is so very easy on the eyes as well.

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhh James Ingram ...sexy as ever..the voice wooohhh!!!

  • This song was written by the incomparable (husband and wife) composers Alan and Marilyn Bergman.

  • Awesome performance!!!!!

  • Patti Austin is a very hard act to follow, but Tamia makes this her own and does an incredible job.

  • oh my god....so romantic!

  • James is a bigger flirt than I am..............Lolllllllllll......Boy'eeeeeee

  • why can't they have the ORIGINAL version on youtube??

  • That's some sexy stuff! I love James Ingram.....can anybody help me find the duet by Miki Howard and Gerald Levert called "That's What Love is"? I can hear it in my head......"you are a special part of me.......keep on loving me this way...forever in my heart you'll always stay"!

  • MY GOD! I'm inlove again!!!! and I REALLY MISSED singing ON STAGE!

  • im not quite part of this music generation. I'm younger and i'm saddened by what's out there playing...we sure do have a lot to live up to..

  • My high school choir sang this my freshman year. The choral version was just so incredibly beautiful it gave me chills each and every time I sang it. They don't write them like this anymore. Thanks so much for posting!!

  • Two of my absolute favorite singers in the world. And somebody had the nerve to put them together! I been killin this! But to the person who suggested Tamia couldn't hang...come one now. You might prefer Patti Austin- who did a great job on the original- but there was nothin subpar about Tamia's vocals on this. That lady is great! Thx for posting this!

  • I feel she did an exceptional job singing this, almost just as good as Mz. Austin.

  • Tamia and James Ingram with this rendition...you can't go wrong with these two behinhd the mic. GREAT COMBO !!!!

  • You just don't hear good singing like this everyday. The current generation has a lot to live up to.

  • This song reminds me when I was a young lover with my girlfriend we was 2gether 4 10 years & this song was a testiment 4 us @ that time N our lifes. We were the best of friend so I felt that way then she got a bright idea. This was our song.

  • @tkeitt43 now thats so sweet

  • joewilliams

  • Ho\/\/ DO YoU Ke3p Th3 Mu$iC PlAyInG???

  • Both are great but this makes me kind of want to marry james ingram- so passionate it makes him delish!

  • Stop it @4:40 James!!!! 'to meueueeuee yeah, if u keep singin like that, u gone make me weak to my knees baby over and over again" u just made the ladies' hearts melt!!

  • @schs19947 Exactly what I was thinking!

  • this is just about the most wonderful song its makes so much sence and so real

  • James Ingram is a great singer>> Wish there where more singers like him...

  • God James can sing. The pitch is so perfect, he sounds just as he does on the album. Tamia tried but she just couldn't hang in this song like miss Patti Austin.

  • i love you james ingram....i love ur kind of music!!!

  • James writes some of the most beautiful songs. This is an oldie BUT goodie w/Tamia. He couldn't have chosen a better person to duet with. I think the original person was Patti Austin?!?!

  • beautiful voices, thanks for sharing

    such great video

  • I love this song...

    So, so much!!

    Better original Patti Austin...

  • Thank you.

  • james ingram is really very a good person that i would like too meet !!

  • Very Nice! One of my favorite songs.

  • Gosh, I loved this performance!!! I used to tape this show every weekend. Unfortunately, I trusted someone to convert all my VHS over to DVD and they kept all my tapes. I had all of these performances, and all the old BET Walk of Fame performances (Patti LaBelle, Mariah, Musiq)

  • WHERE IS THE PERFOMANCE THEY DID IN 2005 AT THE TRIBUTE TO QUINCY JONES? i cannot find that anywhere and it was an amazing performance! somebody PLEEEEASE upload that one.

  • James Ingram & Afgan (Syah Reza) have turned my heart upside down, ha ha

  • David Foster's piano part and counter melody is so

much better than the sound track from the movie

Foster didn't play on this video performance but

he did play the piano and the record that Quincy

    produced

  • Wonderful oh wonderful song by Michel Legrand like all his musics) And James Ingram is just fantastic. I like this duet !

  • Damn james ingram don't take ur di..k out and poke her ..u might go to jail for rape...LOL

  • this is me and Dave together on a hot summer night

  • still loving you; choupita.

  • OMG nobody out now comes close to this,i wanna see some real sangin again hell ill get up there myself cuz i can do it baby!!!!!!!!!!!

  • if you only try to watch sheryn and divo's version then you can compare sheryn's vocal with tamia...though tamia is hollywood and sheryn is only local filipina but then sheryn is more powerful than her...sheryn can collaborate with james...divo is also good singer...

  • @palubasyang you cant compare tamia to sheryn because tamia is far better than sheryn.... my goodness!

  • saw him in concert the other day. his voice is still as soulful as his records way back. and he is such an amazing guy. age catching up with him but his voice isnt.

  • James Imgram one of the greatest no space in the industry for highly talented vocalists like this"what a shame" bring back the 80s and with it great music and great musicians.

  • james ingram one of the greatest male vocalists on the planet. One of a kind.

  • I did not here this in a long while. Good times with this one.

  • Hot, hot hot!!!

  • Unbealiveable performance by the both wow I'm amazed they should make a singal I wanna download this to my comptuer lol truly sickibg this songf

  • which year was this??

  • James Imgram doesn't need to look at any teleprompter to sing that song. He made that song a hit back in the '80s doing duet with Patti Austin.

  • This young lady has a great voice not just anyone can do a duet with James Ingram. WOW!!!!!!

  • im amazed at how people find negatvie things to say. this is an AMAZING performance. of course she's no Patti Austin, she's Tamia. She's a GREAT singer and she did HER thing. They both killed this joint. Its a beautiful song, beautifully sung. Lyrics are unbelievable... wow, perfect song.

  • The lyrics are so beautiful too!!!!

  • Doesn't it seem like they're reading from a teleprompter (sp?) cause they're staring straight ahead. Oh well, that would only make the performance more excellent. :D

  • What you say may be true about the teleprompter, but they are also singing to Quincy Jones (he was sitting in front of them at a distance). this was part of a UNCF tribute to him and the music he wrote/produced.

  • Ooh, that makes sense. Thanks.

  • This performance was not part of a UNCF tribute. This was from a short lived late night UPN concert series show. I remembered watching this clip then...these two are so underrated.

  • Thanks, so I must have seen another person perform this song with J. Ingram on the Quincy Jones special. I think he also sang this with Patti Austin so maybe it was her and not Tamia.

Yes, they are underrated as are most of the "real" singers out there.

  • Yes they are

  • James is my favorite singer

  • ...sooooooo beautiful...

    Hugs from Philly...

  • Tamia is a shocking surprise, this is a very difficult, beautifull song and James Ingram is amazing, uncredible... good for boths.

  • James made her melt @ 4:40 u see her grab his shoulder...James is SMOOOOTH!!

  • James Ingram has been my favorite singer since I was 11.

Too bad not many people make great music like this anymore.

  • And why would you think that ? She certainly can hold her own ! It's part of being a duet you have to harmonise with each other !

  • tamia voice is like a little bell, so clear love it

  • This is an excellent performance!!! OMG

  • brrrrrr .....THE END.... THE BEST! ...anyway

  • Her Voice Gave me chills!! WOW!!! GREAT!!!!!!!!

  • *applause*****

  • james ingram what a voice just like listening to a cd

  • @jonathanbosworth incredible

  • One of the Best and my favorite singer James Ingram! This song far better with duet PATTI AUSTIN. Perfectly well !

  • Truly a beautiful song and a wonderful performance.

  • Wonderful...the most wonderful, romantic song I ever heard all my life. Great work, James and Tamia.

  • This is one of the GREATEST classic duets ever made.

  • That was awesome. I love Patti's version, but Tamia worked this. I'd love to hear it with better audio.

  • 4:09-4:50 Is My Favorite Part. And The Part...." you sing to me....i sing to you"

  • awesome!!!
