  • Ulbricht tried to play his game (bringing down the number of border points, diplomats who had to show ID) and almost won. Then Soviet tanks came to show GDR leadership that Moscow was in charge. General Clay did a good job showing some teeth instead of the acceptance all over again. Soviets understood and Russians understand force, strength. If you're weak, the gonna get you.

  • Regretfully true. The only language the communists understood was strength. As it turned out, supplying the USSR free of charge in WW2 was a major political error - no matter how sensible it appears to a western mentality.

  • I was there and in the spearpoint of the troubles.

  • Imagine if one of the tank gunners fingers had slipped on the button or if he'd been drunk and thought "Oh, what the hell!!!!" !!!! I would not be writing this now!!!!!

  • Where can I find the full story of it?

  • excelente documental thanks

  • So... World War 3 could've started because some idiot over-reacted when an American wanted to go to the theatre. Stupidity.

  • I wish we could it nuke the commi bastards!!!

  • @YouNoob100101 problem is if we do 5000 will come right back

  • Human Beings are the biggest idiots of all animals !

What the hell are we fighting for here?

  • @duduvissotto

The were fighting for "power", the Latin version of it which is "vis" (Power / Force / Potestatem).

I agree with you fully on both of your comments...

  • @marcusgoes

exactly, fighting for power, which means humans have no common sense whatsoever!

  • Bei 0:21 Deshalb stand die MAUER um solch KRIEGSTREIBERN Einhalt zu gebieten

  • those poor american tanks didnt stand a chance against the soviet T55

  • @andresrojas22 I wouldn't count on that, those American tanks appear to be M60 Pattons, easily the equal of the T55, possibly superior...

  • @Id3ntity29 you should check that when this incident happened the t55 significantly outclassed the m60 in armor, in fact this crisis brought as a consequence a redesign of the m60. Later the m60 could stand against the t55, but in 1961 it didnt have a chance

  • @andresrojas22 These are M48A1 Tanks....

  • @Id3ntity29 no way bro the t55 had way better armor than the m60

  • amazing, I was just at Checkpoint Charlie last week, the museum there is FANTASTIC and very interesting and sad at points.

  • balck red gold!!!.. giv a fuck of us-victory and to tha red army.. Germany is europe, without germany europe is nothing..

every guy has to get it.. we'll wait the year 2045!! thennnnn the hole world will see what kind of a country we have

  • @blackchampagner I hope you are right. Only this time, try not to make the mistake of attacking Russia. It would be much wiser to become allies. Germany + Russia should be brothers in arms this time around, not brothers in death. The defeat of Nazi Germany was essentially the beginning of the fall of the USSR, because the entire world turned their attention on defeating the Soviet Union once Germany was no longer a threat.

  • @RuMolot "The only ones who are loved in Germany without having to feed them are the Russians.." (Wladimir Kaminer) ;-)

  • @lankinator24 , and that is bullshit.

  • :52 words never more true, and that's what i tell all the hippies and people who think we're just going to let russia walk around as it pleases.

  • We both fought the fascists, why fight each other.

  • @OptimalDistortion because Communism is as bad as fascism.

  • AMI GO HOME /watch?v=XaEcGdbRZsw&feature=related

  • I visited Berlin last week! Yeah 40000 viewer!

  • The Cold War was just so utterly rediculous and unneccesary.

The Americans should have learnt to live with Communism and the USSR rather than bring the world to the brink of disaster.

Totally provoking the Russians in this vid!

  • @NorthernBoy2010 Wrong. Russia was also provoking the west with the spreading of communism in the east of Europe.

  • @mattserria117 YOU are wrong.

NATO was provoking the Soviet Union with cappie propoganda in East Berlin.

  • @NorthernBoy2010 it was mainly because of the hot-head idiot in command

  • @bklynguy27 America won the cold war cus the soviet union collapsed and they disband most of there nuclear weapons and the us didn't want shit with the Georgian conflict cus it didn't involve us and we have our hands full. Stupid piece of shit

  • Only if that building could talk.

  • The Soviet Union would've kicked the U.S.'s ASS. no DOUBT about it.

  • @bklynguy27 retard

The Soviet Leader at the time, his son write a book saying his father, after visiting the United States, said the Soviet Union could never win the Cold War

Worst situation, we would've killed each other.

  • @andayy the russians had much more nuclear arsenal than the U.S., and probably still do. that's why we don't mess with them now,and the U.S. didn't dare interfere into the Georgian conflict.

  • @bklynguy27 Well firstly the US did interfere with the Georgian conflict, equipping and airlifting in almost 1000 Georgian soldiers, secondly the arsenal sizes are meaningless. 400 bombs is enough to destroy the world. Everything else is waste.

  • @NSBniederlande

    Soviets are not communnists!

    (read the communistic Manifesta!)

  • So weird to look at how close we got to war with Russia. If a gun went off at all, even from an accident, the whole damn world could have been blown to bits in that instant.

  • thank the us-army

  • that's what chavez wants to impose in venezuela and colombia i shoul get to live in the moon where he cant treath free countries like mine

  • Damn it JG300 got me a year earlier...was about to make a comment on that M48's flaming engine - just a year later lol

  • I remember seeing this stuff live on tv...

  • Soviets had 400 divisions in Eastern Europe. The US had..I think about 10 divisions. Everyone who was there knew that any conflict would quickly go nuclear as it was the only real way to stop the Soviets

  • I'm quite surprised that this didn't escalate any more than it did.

  • Acording to William F. Buckley in the Fall of the Berlin Wall. The US tanks were loaded and on the Ruskies tanks ready to fire.

  • BERLIN BRIGADE! We will never forget their service!

  • URSS nostalgia :_

  • Good to see this video back. Note flame from back of the M-48's. Old gas engine version.
