  • uuuuuum you're awesome

  • I like how you teach by fret numbers. It really helps me memorize so much better!

  • Why the hell does Century sweep Into Eternity under the table while Arch Enemy and Behemoth get a shitload of recognition?

  • his beard got londer at 3:54

  • Self- Tought is the way to go to learn and teach yourself!!!!!

  • I want a Timeless Winter VOCAL lesson too :P

  • alright the last bit of that fast lick is different than the slow version. d string, he skips three notes before going to the very last note.

  • good job man!! thx alot!!

  • man some help.... thanks to this video i've play this song...but, in the disc i hear some phrases betweeen this two licks explained in this video....but....my ear its not that fast.......

i dont know if that lick between that phrases, its result of a delay effect?

    or what......

please if someone know the answer...please! help!

    thanks everybody!!!!!!!

  • im speechless.. this guy is a machine

  • Why the fuck is Tim roth undermining his own ability he's a fucking legend.

  • His voice is much higher then I expected

  • Just want to know how he gets that clear sound from his guitar. Is it the Seymour Duncan pick-ups or is Tim using a noise gate pedal or effect to get that clear sound or what? Anyone let me know, okay. Thanks.

  • @rattlesnake6913 Its probably that he is using the neck pickup, it gives a nice clear tone which is perfect for shredding, you need to be pretty clean with your technique though if you wanna pull it off...mistakes become very easy to spot!

  • love the band, great guitarist. Im gonna try to learn this. thanks for video

  • who told him its a harmonic minor lick? for all he knows it could be naturally minor, diminished, augmented, etc etc etc. someone must've told him SOMETHING about theory. In my opinion you should learn everything you can about music, and then forget about it, but at least know WHY you can do it, or why something works. Being ignorant of theory is like trying to play football without knowing the rules. It doesnt make much sense, but it can work...

  • @justAlex666 he just said he doesnt know the notes, scales are easy on guitar without them, piano probably has a different trick or you have to know the notes

  • @Huzzawful

"...Basically I play by feel, and uh...I'm not a theory guy..."

not being theoretically trained is a bad idea in anything. Yes you can be good at it, yes there are legends like Hendrix who weren't, but it only makes you better. He plays by position and what he hears, not what he feels. In order to play what you feel you'd have to know the notes. Otherwise you'd play a great deal of wrong notes in trying to feel the right ones. It's just a good idea.

  • @justAlex666 fucking blah. Use your right side of your brain more, you can play by feel fine without having knowledge or notes by what "FEELS" good, and what "FEELS" awesome, and then you automatically know what "FEELS" like shit to you. God dammit man give the human brain some credit, I don't know anything about theory or sheet music either, but if we were to cut heads, i'd shred your face off.

  • @meshuggahfan shred my face off? congratulations! you can play fast in and out of key, but oh it feels good so it must be right. Without a proper knowledge of why you can do something you'll only ever be mediocre. This guy is a great guitarist but I gurantee he could play things that felt good and were musically complex if he knew more about theory. I didn't trash him, I'm just stating the facts: ignorance is not bliss.

  • @justAlex666 lol, do you see dogs sitting around telling other dogs how to properly lick their assholes? That's obviously a no, and i'm sure you're smart enough to draw the conclusion that I just painted. Thanks -- Mfan

  • INTO ETERNITY FUCKING ROCKS (:

  • I don't like the theorist teachers.

  • They are such a great band im so happy i found them!

  • @KiyoshiProductions Lol they are from my home town and was at every show before they were REALLY HUGE

  • thumbs up and down, in comments, dont work good in new YouTube

  • Wowzers learn a new lick already. You have offically beat that horse dead.

  • Bro you sound JUST LIKE FUCKIN LARS !!

SICK MAN !!!! ACTUALLY AMAZING !!!!

  • From a musician's point of view I would say that Dream Theater has years upon years of experience on these guys and I still prefer Into Eternity. But these bands really shouldn't be compared.

  • Seeing as your basically comparing a filet mignon (Into Eternity) to a rock.

  • you remind me alot of me playing style wise

  • best fucking progresive band ever... even better than dream theater!!!

  • much better than Dream Theatre!

  • nooo.

  • yeah.... no. Into Eternity is great but Dream Theater is legend.

  • ahaha. i'm sure Dream Theatre is better for you.

but i just happen to think Into Eternity is much better :p

  • i don't like either of them better... Dream Theater just structures and writes better. Which is the truth.

  • oh :) but hey! i just started with into eternity a few months ago, maybe thats why i have a little bias.

im for metallica and dream evil anyway. ahahaha

  • dream theatre is too robotic and emotionless to me. theyre just showing off all the theory they learned in univeristy. well i know petrucci went to university anyway lol./

  • you r right...DT is legend and now i believe both of them r progressive bands, but cant be campare cuz they´r so different at the time to make music, but both r great!!!

  • One of my favorite bands! You guys are amazing musicians!

  • dude seriously

this bands needs alot more recognition

  • @elementskater94 i know

  • @elementskater94 agreed they are absolutely amazing and i honestly dont even like death metal

  • @elementskater94 i saw them open for iced earth at harpos and they were awsome

  • Comment removed

  • what kind of guitar is that?

  • ibanez s

  • Great guitar player, his voice reminds me of lars ulrich.

  • Does any one have the full song tabbed out?

  • cool dude

  • He has such a beautiful tone.

  • Look at him jiggle his G-String!

  • wat hair???

    lol

  • look at him push his hair back at 1:45

    haha :D

    sick guitar skills !

  • opening riff is TOO fucking awesome.

  • WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY FAT GUYS ARE THE BEST SHREDDERS? I mean Malmsteen, Michael romeo from Symphony X, this dude, Michael angelo... haha wait, and apparently all their names start with M.

  • Is Batio fat?

  • I'll bet they spend all their time eating, sleeping, and playing guitar

  • it's just fun to do lol

  • indeed

  • Comment removed

  • Does anyone know the time signature? Or speed? I'm making a protab for the whole song

  • 4/4

  • I feel bad for Tim. He is a very nice guy and a great guitarist, but if he is not a teacher then he won't earn money, that's for sure.

Maybe that's why Into Eternity is constantly on the road.

  • Amazing band. Everything they do is great.

  • I go by shape theory and theory of the scale. No, dont know modes all scales. I CAN read music though, I DO know all my notes. Do you think eddie knows all of that? This guy is another influence for me.

  • First, thanks for the video and greetings to Roth - stay that kind and rock on

Well, about music theory: I think it's not necessary. Most Guitarist play around Scales (Pentatonic, Arpeggios etc). But if you know some theory you can include some improving things like the 'leading-tone' etc.

When you practice a lot you'll learn like authentic endings without reading theory books.

Anyway, Metal and Rock'n'Roll is born in a garage with some friends, cheap equipment and the dream of RocknRoll

    Cheers

  • You don't need to be able read music to be good.

  • @CelestialInsanity you can say that again

  • @CelestialInsanity yeah, you're right..... but theory help us to be good lol

  • @CelestialInsanity helps a bit to know the notes but generally its all intervals

  • So. Most metal guitarist now a days dont know how to read music.

U dont have to know how to read music to play music.

  • yea big deal alot of people cant

  • the scattering of ashes ,best album by into eternity ..whoever says this dude sucks is gay, he doesent suck. hes opening for iced earth , he obviously doesent suck

  • into eternity is clearly better than iced earth

  • this is true

  • Agreed!

  • I agree, but Iced Earth was pretty epic in the Spawn anime series. Gotta give em credit, that was some pretty sweet shit.

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP! HAVE YOU NO RESPECT FOR ONE OF THE BEST POWERMETAL ACTS EVER!?

NOT TO MENTION THAT THEY ARE ONE OF THE ONLY BANDS THAT WERE STILL METAL IN NINETIES WHEN EVERY OTHER BAND FOLDED, OR STARTED BEING LITTLE BABIES AND COMPLAINING ABOUT EVERYTHING, aka, grunge.

    jesus christ!

  • are you referring to me?

because i wasnt saying that iced earth was a bad band, i was merely stated how into eternity was better. was that really so bad?

  • IntoEternity RULZ fucktard

  • TOTALLY AGREEE!!!!!!

  • Well Iced Earth makes all of their songs epic whereas Into Eternity has some extremely complex yet some simple... but still epic. Compare Dante's Inferno to Severe Emotional Distress. Both amazing songs. So let's go with Iced Earth & Into Eternity = WIN

  • there is no doubt about that!

  • This riff really rocks...

    Gratz, dude!

  • So sick. :D

  • awesome video dude :D

    thanks ^^

  • What a nice guy :)

  • what I don't understand here is he says he's not a theory guy, and doesn't seem, or pretends to not know much about it, yet he plays in harmonic minor, and typical progressive scale along with melodic minor and yet he knows no "theory." I'm baffled, because if you were to play it by ear and "feel" as he says, he must have some sort of magical sense of musical theory, where he was born with the knowledge of it...because you don't just "hear" the harmonic minor scale and then make riffs out of it

  • You dont need to know theory to write good music......

  • But theory is just the explanation and understanding of music. knowing theory doesnt hurt your playing, you just have to know when and what to use it for.

  • u dont have to have music theoru just o no a simple scale any idiot can learn scales there is way more to music theory like propoer picking techniques also stuff natural harmonics and pinch harmonics the list goes on

  • I don't know how to play the scale either, lol. i've made riffs out of harmonic minor, major, concert scales, everything...i don't even know theory lol. i just figured out how to play the scales.

  • i guess he has a good ear like many and good sense of weaving melodies

  • omg this guy is awesome and so nice to

  • Dude i Met tim roth at the consert they had here on the first!!!!

  • lol, i really like this guy, "i'm just a dude playing guitar" he's humble that's really cool.

  • I can't change strings while alternate picking with triplets for my life... it's that fucking up stroke. Lol

  • Mechanical hands!!

  • your a good teacher you just didnt say what to do on the g string on the first part.,

  • his vibrato sux

  • why are you so negative? I don't care if his vibrato sucks if everything else is amazing. And it's not amazing, but it certainly does not suck <_<

  • that's why i've said HIS VIBRATO SUX, not He sucks.

He plays very well, but vibrato is something VEEEEEERY important for a guitar player I think D:

  • I really hope that you don't think anything negative about these comments. I mean nothing but greatness.

  • Oh yeah, Blair sends a gigantic hello and hug to you all. He is right there with me. We wish you all nothing but the best!

  • Tim, I was hanging out with Dave and Dan when Gods Last name was a band, that was along fucking time ago. I was hangingout with you guys when you were justa gerat fucking band in the basement jammingout some wicked ass tunes. I have followed you around many parts of Canada, and the only thing I get is...nothing. But, I'm ok with this. I just need you to know that there are those you don't know about who support your great band with hearts that are heavy with years of love. Don't forget.

  • lol, a yahoo like him

  • can you post a video on spiraling into depression. this video was awsome to though.

  • great man and great song i love that song (TIMELESS WINTER) man you are a real great band your music is so coooooooool

    AHMED FROM MOROCCO !!

  • I saw these guys live in Atlanta with Symphony X, they were fucking incredible! I love your modesty, Mr. Roth! "I'm just a dude" A dude who kicks ass at guitar! Great band... and that's one of my favorite songs from them. KEEP IT METAL!!!

  • Hey, small world, so did I. Only i saw them in New York City and they still rocked the fuckin house. Great Musicians. Unique Band.

  • Wicked, man! They are indeed great musicians! I'm having trouble defining their genre... I'd say it's a mix between Progressive Death Metal and Melodic Death Metal. What do you think?

  • I agree. It's the clean vocals that give it the unique sound, at least compared to other death metal bands (progressive or melodic). It's just odd that there is no keyboards, unlike many death metal bands, but again it gives them that unique style. They Are From Canada LOL!

  • man he rocks \m/ idk how he hold his pick like that and plays so well!

  • he is holding the prick quite "strange".. at least I am using it compleatly different..:)

  • u need to chill out u stupied Fuck...

And yes, everyone is using it the way they like it, but still, 99% use it a bit diffrent, dont u think??

U are such a fanatic, its incredible..

  • Jvous Aime tellement tros :)

  • rofl it looks like hes struggling hard to play it slow

  • w/e this guy is pretty sick even if petrucci tears him a new asshole

  • What does being Canadian have to do with being a good guitar player?

  • He said "guys like that". I'm sure Petrucci is included in the "guys like that". The name probably didn't even come to mind at the time. Why don't you guys just take a chill pill?

  • when he sed guitar heroes, he shouldve fuckin sed John Petrucci.

  • I get what you mean that Petrucci is a better player, but I don't think anal rapage is a proper way to put it. In fact, I suppose they get along quite well since they've been touring together.

  • whats wrong with canadians you fucking asshole

  • canadians kick ass so u can lick my balls loash

  • thank you... now i take it either ur canadian or not and just a nice guy... or canadian and a nice guy! i am so that leashomemea guy can kiss my ass

  • i am Canadian and proud of it

  • well said bro

  • YEEEEE

    this helps so much

  • tim roth is a fucking insane fucking guitarist

  • All the best guitarists play with the Ibanez S series guitars for some reason, like Joe Satriani, Tim Roth, Paul Waggoner from BTBAM, I mean shit! They rule!

  • so bad ass

  • my gosh, this guy is insane...

  • are you a fucking retard? He clearly states it at the beginning of his lesson.

  • well sorry i missed that part does that mean u have to be an ignorant asshole..

  • i do beleive it is standard c, if you know what that is man....something like C F# A# D G C, er i think...anyways its standard tuning with the top C string :P

  • cass ??? why you telling these people the tunings??:P:P its not fair oh and this is mason

  • ibanez s ?? which model ?

  • is it just me or is he playing a lot more than hes actually telling cuz i did it slow and it sounds nothin like it, hes leavin out parts, course its easy for him cuz hes good and made the riff

  • He's not leaving anything out at all, it just sounds wierd when you play it slowly. When you play it faster it'll sound more like it.

  • Kicks ASS

  • 1:24 is where all the good stuff is

  • The entire video is the good stuff! Yeah!

  • this guy owns

  • Thank you!

  • Yes TIM ROTH I TALKED TO YOU IN VANCOUVER last time you played SO COOL :)

  • thats amazing, thats so cool that an actual guitarist would do that for ppl not just some kid posin like he knows how to play, and it proves that you dont have to be some theory whizdude to play insanely fast, cuz he isn't, I've always wondered how ppl can play like that, but i guess all it takes is a long scale like that and u learn to play it fast

  • agree, why wouldn't you let them explore themselves? damn, you'll have minimalistic music, and those people don't even show how 'good' they are technical, but are thinking how to get to the psyche of human-kind, so FEEL FREE!!!

really kind of stupid to 'stop' someone by judging...

  • SLASH IS BETTER??? cmon man, there differnt styles for one, and I bet this guy could play anything slash could, and I bet slash cannot do half the shit this dude does, but im not dirently calling this guy better, i mean, slash wrote some pretty classic shit, and im a huge fan, but saying either one is better is kind of stupid

  • he does good lessons.

  • Yes, yet another shredder. Show me a real musician.

  • it takes skill,it is a type of music, and he still has to work with theory to make his compositions.he's a real musician.

  • Yes, especially when he said he is not a "theory" guy, he plays by "feeling". Translation: "I don't give a shit about real music theory, it just bores me, I just like to run up and down the fretboard as fast as possible using some scales". Though I think it's great he takes some time to teach others.

  • That's amazing. He plays it like it's easy and he's so modest. Kind of like watching that really crazy fast kid at DDR in the arcade. lmao

  • How is that fuckin possible? WOW I mean he totally rocks!

  • the beginning was just scales, only done more quickly, just like Slash from Guns N' Roses

  • slash is sloppy though.i think he is better.very numetal sound.i think he is near yngvie, just alot more modest.

  • yeah, i know. this guy could play pretty good with scales, but you are right. slash is better, and come to think of it, guns n roses is still together.

  • Kickass

  • dude, this guy can change the world with his skill

  • you can shread. you modest guitar master

  • it really doesn't take a genious to hear when he plays it fast he is leaving out a bunch of notes....tim roth...why are you doing that?

  • this is a good band ive seen them with destruction

  • awesome down to earth guy, I like the canadian talk, it just skips that US crap who mention 'It was like...' and 'fuck' and 'shit' 10 times in every sentence

he's fucking fast with his pick, I thought the only way to be that fast was with legato pull offs and hammer-ons, clearly not:p

  • Am I the only guy that thinks this guy is the most down to earth, most un-arrogant guitar player that ever lived?

  • I really like that guitar...

Harmonic minor scales...gotta love them :)

  • borinnnnnnnnng

  • new album is amazing.

  • ...Did he just imaginary-comb his bald head?

  • Rofl, I believe he did.
