Original is a dangerous word. The "origin" of the transformers goes way beyond America's little animated series. The Japanese were the instigators of this franchise and the story line is firmly based on those origins. Sorry sir, the new movie, although not what most fans remember, is loyal to the origin of Transformers.

Each generation takes an idea and morphs it into what they require at that time. The Hero/Quest story has long been evolving and changing since King Arthur and before. To say the comic version is better is not and can not be fact, merely opinion. It is natural to view ones favorite thing as the "purest" or true version. To say Spielberg shortchanged audiences is not accurate at all. That is like saying Thomas Malory shortchanged audiences with Le Morte D Arthur. many versions into one work.

I don't know mon ami, the Transformers story adheres to certain motifs and templates. These include the grim and violent storyline which unfortunately is missing from the first live action version of the franchise and now the sequel, it has been reduced to just that, Titanic or Deep Impact with giant robots thrown in. As for hero/quest stories evolving to suit the taste of contemporary audiences, that's okay, unfortunately I'm not buying.

The transformation animations are amazing. You do realise that if there there is like, 4-5 bots in a single shot, a single frame take 12-18 hours to render. As we know, film runs at 24 fps, so that's like, 12-18 days to render ONE SECOND of footage.

True he didn't stick to the original. But not sure if you noticed, but movie making is a business. They spent $150 million making the first movie... they want to get that plus millions more back. So the movie is made for everyone, not just fanboys.
