I recently went on an old routemaster and maybe it's a good thing they're gone cause the bus didn't seem like it would be as comfortable as a modern bus when crowded and I don't know how the downstairs of the bus would be kept warm in the winter.

What if they just drove all those sightseeing routes using Routemasters instead of those modern Optare buses used by Big Bus Tours. That would be a pretty good idea I guess!

Very cute and very romantic but how many of the people singing that song and singing the praises of the Routemaster, have ever had the claustrophobic, ear-splitting, bone-crunching, spine-twisting (dis)pleasure of driving one of those vehicles of torture?

Believe me, the romance is all on the outside.

Every bus station should run 2 routemasters as a nod and homage to their iconic greatness, I am sure that they could do that : then we could still see the beautiful routemaster on a daily basis

Deffintley bring back the iconic Routemaster as it's a proper British icon as well as being an icon to London, but I would also bring back DMS Fleetlines, MCW Metrobuses and B15 Leyland Titans to London as well.

Never mind bringing back the routemaster on the 159, 38, 137, 12 etc just to impress the tourests. bring back the routemasters on the 165, 252, 365, 294, 174 - Hornchurch depot was the first depot to lose routemasters in 1973 so we deserve to have them back first in the east end havering borough

@DANWOODHOUSE (a) The 365 didn't exist when the RM ran from RD (the 165 covered both routes - the first 365 was a Titan) (b) the 252 rarely saw a RM as the 165 hogged them. Before the SMS flushed the open platforms out of RD, the 252 mostly ran RTs (not necessarily a bad thing) (c) 294/174 ran from NS, not RD (d) "Havering" isn't really the "East End" (central politicians hijacked Romford Borough/Hornchurch UDC in 1965 from Essex).

The RM, T and M buses - killed by political correctness...
