I so love how he adored his Welsh family; when Ivor (biggest brother and family head) asked him (rich and famous) to not give Daddy Ni any more money for drink he said "I couldn't do that to Daddy"...like, he must have said he could buy his Dad anything and it must have been all the beer he could ever want.
Acting is a lot of work........I suspected it was somewhat of an effort. But I had no idea of the life-long effort actors must undertake to excel. Richard being no exception. And its a very competitive field. Though, i do often wonder if there are/were many of those that never made it; in spite of having all the right stuff. My favorite of Burtons was Beckett. I was told that Richard's teacher, Mr. Burton (and Richard adopted it as his stage name), I was told that the teacher would have him sound out each vowel, each letter, standing on the rocks of Wales and pronouncing syllables & letters into the wind. It made of a wonderful speaking voice of great clarity. When Richard Burton spoke, you "heard" him.
Having a Great Mentor at a young age. Is what make people Great later in Life. It is the base foundation needed.
