I typically hate listening to live bands-when one only listens to the studio edited CD's, live music doesn't sound that great. I say these guys are an exception
@theandrewwebster Same. Some of the sounds he gets on Sink Or Swim are outrageous. Like the last part of Angry Johnny, when he is playing those open chords. Holy shit.
@mclovin411 As a fellow lad from Jersey it makes me happy to know others out there realize theres so much more to the Garden State than what MTV portrays us as. And for that my friend I thank you!
@saintjack007 bombay bicycle club is pretty shit i'll admit. i think its only going to get more common as hipsterdom slowly goes mainstream but im not that worried i think good music will continue to be made as long as there are people that discern and care about it
people always ask me "who's your favorite band?" "Too many to name," I said for years. But now I just smile and say "The Gaslight Anthem, hands down."
@andrewniwdog I personally have 3. I have tattoos for 2 of them. 1 is Tool the other is the Red Hot Chili Peppers the next tattoo I get will be a sleeve to symbolise the Gaslight Anthem and all of their amazing awesome epicness.
I don't know what it is about the sound of their music, but i can't stop listening to it! And now im spoiled, nothing even comes close to sounding this good to me anymore.
i literally cant stop myself from listening to them(not that i would want to) seriously since august 1st 2009 when i first saw them live and began listening to them i have never even stopped a little they have always been right up there on what i listen to most. cant say enough about these guys. so raw and real you know?
Great performances. Unfortunately, American Slang isn't as strong of a record like '59 Sound or Sink or Swim in my opinion. These guys are an amazing live band, saw them last year.
@UTF I think 59 sound had better singles but american slang flows better so they are about equal. sink or swim is good but they wern't nearly as strong of songwriters even if their sound was harder
If you are not a fan of Gas Light Anthem this will change your mind. One of the best bands on the face of the earth! They always make me smile and lift my spirits, Love them!!
a lot crosses my mind when i hear you guys play, from old steel mills to coal mines and lonelt sulfer rivers.. but one thing is for sure, the music you have given us couldn/t have hittin any closer to home..
a lot crosses my mind when i hear you guys tplay, from old steel mills to coal mines.. but one thing is for sure, the music you have given us couldn/t have hittin any closer to home..
I like his band alot, but this is as much punk is ,as digable plantes is to gangsta rap........ todays youth don't know there butt from a whole in the ground... get off your backside and get some fresh air!
@LunaOccurrence while its not all anarchy and the-man-is-holding-you-down it has most of the musical elements of punk and I personally feel a certain forlornness in the music that I would say is distinctly punk. It has a yearning for a world better than this one, but that's just the way it seems to me.

It has a yearning for a world better than this one, but that's just the way it seems to me.
Man, a couple years back I was laying in bed with too much on my mind to fall asleep, so I grabbed my iPod on shuffle and these guys came up- might've been Drive off Sink or Swim- and with the dark room and all my thinking coinciding with their sound I got chills. Out of nowhere, they exploded from a slight interest to my favorite band, and ever since I've been playing all of their stuff nonstop. It never gets old. Their stuff is 5/5 stars all around.
These guys make me love punk rock again! Brian's voice reminds me a lot of Springsteen with maybe a little Chuck Ragan?...just can't miss the emotion and sincerity!! One of the few bands out there right now that I'm happy to pay to see!
his looks dont match his voice...maybe if he switched voices with the guy from silversun pickups? i know im gonna get roasted for this lol but i gotta point it out
When I read all these comments about which record is the best, I just can't decide. They're all great, every LP and the EP, it just depends what I wanna hear, I listen to American Slang a lot these days, of course. But when I wanna hear their raw punk, I listen to Sink or Swim and when it's autumn and everyone is in a bit of a melancholic mood, I'd listen to the '59 Sound. These guys are one of the best out there and I'll see them in a couple of days in Belgium!
@doghousehobo Exactly. I love all their albums and the EP, but I hear each one of them depending on my humour. If I am mad or just want to hear something intense, Sink Or Swim. If I am either really happy or melancholic, as you said, The '59 Sound. American Slang makes me feel nostalgic, but at the same time hopefull in a great future. Favorite band, for sure.
@dizzypunk eh. reguardless, i've been to warped tours (back when they were awesome) and would mosh in 90 degree and humid as fuck weather. i dkn, when i hear music i love i just cant stay still, no matter how hot or uncomfortable the weather is. maybe its just me though.
@justRUNalex No, I find him quite attractive as well. Actually, I think they're all cute. But I would still listen to them even if they were hideous because their music is absolutely phenomenal.
@justRUNalex Certainly not. I find him very atractive as well. I have to admit I have a crush on him. Plus he looks amazingly good, in any way, with beard or without.
Its been far too long since punk (and rock in general) has had this much heart and soul. Thank God these boys came along. Best band today if you ask me.

He took it all gracefully on the chin
Knowing that the beatings had to someday end
He found the bandages inside the pen
And the stitches on the radio
There was something, baby, holding you down
And there were whispers that were driving you crazy
And now you hunt the heart of this town
Remember when I knew a boxer, baby
