Disney did a good job of restoring the submarines. It was a disgrace they sat there unused for 10 years and that Disney couldn't get its act together when they had so many fine educated people apply for animation jobs they couldnt do their own animation or get the ride running or coordinate.
I know what you mean, but I think they designed the mouth that way so people would not be confused and had a clear idea of what was going on. Most people would expect to see teeth in a mouth; a lot of people don't know what baleen is.
I went there yesterday, and this ride was cool, but the part where you go in the cage and it gets all dark kinda creeps me out, and also the wait yesterday was an hour and 15 minutes
wow you wont get me on that ride, being a sub. Recently went on a ride at Kelly Tarltons in Auckland and was a bit nervous being in an enlosed ride thing, but actually being under water, now that would scare me to death.
The haters can say what they want, and some will skew facts to support their viewpoint or resort to mud slinging, but the bare facts of the matter are;
--This ride was made with NO cost-cutting
--This ride was a recipient the 2007 Themed Entertainment Association Award for Outstanding Achievement
--Even today, this ride still has a healthy line.
Perhaps this is not the most exciting ride in the world, and it may not be everybodys cup of tea, but it is still generally regarded as a good ride.
I wonder why the line is 30 minutes with such a small capacity? Can it be that the attraction simply underperforms when compared to the original? It's a fact the original Subs had a 1 hour line up to its closing and that was when it was falling apart. Simply put, I don't think FNSV has the ability to entertain us for more than 10 years in its current form without drastic thematic modifications. It's almost as insulting as putting Disney characters in Small World and calling it an upgrade.
"Can it be that the attraction simply underperforms when compared to the original?"
Not necessarily. There are many classic rides in Disneyland than often have short waits. That does not necessarily mean that they are bad rides. I doubt that the wait is literally 30 minutes. I've been in the line lately, it still takes them forever to get people on.
Its hard to find you credible or honorable when you go around insulting people when they disagree with you.
It's interesting how you have the nerve to lecture me about insulting people when you are the one who got an account closed by youtube. You're the one with a credibiliy issue, going around the system and making a sock puppet username isn't impressing anyone. You didn't even wait for a response from me after you sent an immature hit and run message in my mail box.
It helps if one is familiar with the original Submarine Voyage before going on this version.
In this ride, they have a lot of references to the original in the new script.
The cool thing about this ride is that you get a different view depending on where you sit. A person sitting at the end of the sub gets a different view than someone sitting at the front of the sub; you see different moments in each scene. :)

I love this ride but I can't help but think that the real submersion into water is not necessary, I mean most of the time it doesnt really feel like your under water, they could easily make it without using all that water. Any thoughts? I still love Disneyland and this right BTW, not dissing it. ^^ ....omg haha im actually going this weekend! (saturday march 7th 2009, my birthday!)
Well, that's just the way that the original ride was. And during the ride, there is often streams of bubbles going past the portholes, so they do try to remind you that you are under water.
besides, being submerged in real water adds that extra touch of realism. :)
They did a wonderful job on this ride. We enjoyed it very much. I liked the fact that they kept some of the original premise of the "Submarine Voyage"... Hats off to Disneyland & their crew. Mr. Walt Disney would be proud!!! David

I went to Disney world back in March. The only finding nemo ride they had was at Epcot, and it wasn't subs but a clam car that showed a projected cartoon through an aquarium that you passed by.
The original Sub ride closed in 1998. At that time, the DL management was very bad and penny-pinching. That was considered "the end" for the subs. At one point, the imagineers tried to design an Atlantis ride, but the film did poorly. Then they thought of using Finding Nemo. So in 2004, they set up a test site, it was a success, and work on the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage lasted for 3 years. And the subs finally opened again on June 11th 2007. In WDW, the lagoon is completely gone.
Its at the end... the same place it was in the original ride if i remember correctly. They just plastered it over to make it look like a rock or coral formation, but the original shape is still exact... you can even still see the tongue sticking out! It was pretty cool, reminded me of riding the original as a youngster...
Actually, they did not plaster over the original animatronics. The original animatronics were auctioned off in 2005, along with a plethora of other things from the original Submarine Voyage.
@everythingdisney If this hasn't been answered yet, it's towards the very end of the ride when the narrator mentions the serpent and mermaids. The mermaids are also there. They are all made of rock and coral formations, and you can only see them from a certain side. I believe it is the right side.
The never ending line for Nemo, as the train conductor called it. I waited 3 hours in line for the ride this summer, but it was worth it. The line was a lot shorter after 10pm.

if WDI cared more about hiring true creative talent

this would not be happening.

By the way, just because you disapprove of something, that does not necessarily mean that Walt would disapprove of it.
We have no idea what Walt would or would not have approved.
For all we know, he could have hated the experience that Haunted Mansion is, since the final theme of the ride was conceived after his death.

Look, today's imagineers are not evil. They don't wake up in the the morning thinking; "How can I upset the fans today?"
They are just trying to create new experiences with new technology. They mean well.
