i sprayed my cubies with silicone on a pepper bag on my bathroom floor but for some reason my bathroom floor is slippery. I want to do some more spraying. Where is a good place to do it? Outside is will get rained on and blown away.
You could try to use a counter or something. Pretty much anywhere that's flat. When you paper under the pieces, make sure there's a lot of paper under and around so that the silicone doesn't get everywhere.
I would recommend lubing it once and reassembling your cube to see if it was enough spray. If it's not to your liking, re-lube it. Be careful though, if the silicone builds up, it'll get sticky.
Rembember guys/girls it really has to be CRC Heavy Duty Silicone or another product with only silicone in it. Or else it will turn really sticky and turns even worse than what you started with.
Hey Biggajigga721! it's me Jrockerdude91 again.just wanna let you know that I bought the CRC HEAVY DUTY SILICONE.and I did EXACTLY as you did.and it works PERFECT! thanks you so much man! and also GREAT tutorial =]]]]]
hey...i heard silicone will turn into some glue thingy that makes ur cube stuck....but....i also heard that vaseline will eat ur stickers off....but...my cube (i found it) is reli smooth when i put vaseline in it..it wont eat the stickers because the cube isn't the original one...it's not stickers...more like...it's painted on...
for the sillicone part its only when u spray sillacone in wit the pieces not tooken out and the vaseline will eat the plastic and turn ur stickers white
I used to lube my cube with vaseline. The stickers wore off I bought new stickers and wiped off the vaseline, solved it constantly for a week. Put vaseline back in, solved it constantly for a few days, wiped it out, and the cycle continued.
Eventually I had a cube that moved incredibly smoothly with no vaseline inside. Now I have found some silicone and will try it out.
CRC silicone is the best and contrary to the description, you do NOT need a used cube. You can use a new one, just give it a few solves. I have also found that you do NOT need to do this a bunch of times waiting 10 minutes in between. Just line up the cubies and spray ALL non sticker sides once, then wait just ONE session of 10 minutes. I've done this with several cubes in the past 24 hours using 3 used cubes and 2 Brand new ones that were solved about 5-10 times each.
does it HAVE to be CRC Heavy Duty Silicone? cause I bought Teflon Silicone Lubricant.can it still work? as long is silicone product? please let me know.Thank you so much Biggajigga721!
do they sell small bottles cuz i dont think ima need ahuge bottle i mean u must have alot of cubes i have 2 and thats a pretty big bottle hey and how much is that crc and were u get it????
Well, I actually went to K Mart today, and instead of buying it for $10, I just sprayed my cube. I find it much better than cream as it lasts longer? Iunno, but it seems better and we'll see how long it'll last.
The silicon oil was good for making things more 'slippery' and good for 'children's toys' so I thought it was good, haha.
uhh do you mean "Powder"? actually, i'm not exactly sure, i've never used it before. i've only seem them in their containers. it looks like you'll need to squeeze it out or something.
dont use the non spray its for sealing holes and stuff. so its more like glue.. you find the spray silicone lube at any hard ware store. note "must be 18 yr older to buy. had to find that out the hard way=)"
I sprayed mine like you did, but when it dried, it wasn't as white and white bubbly-ish as yours, it only had a little bit of white but yes, I did spray them 2 times completely, would it still work fine? Is it possible to over-lubricate like this?
If I silicon my diy before I put Cubesmith tiles on it will it ruin the stickability? So I guess I'm asking if the silicon won't allow the tiles to stick on to the plastic.
also, a great lubricant to use is vegetable oil. it won't eat away at your cube, and you probably already have it :D ... but, prepare to get your hands oily for about 3-5 solves or so .. so i suggest just wiping it down with a paper cloth often to remove the excess
with silicon... its sticky when you start off after the pieces are sprayed. the cube is 2 days old ( so New i guess) and its yh just kinda sticky. especially wen you move a side slowly you feel it stick.. is that just coz its a new cube thats causing this problem? - great vi btw =P
This method makes the lubrication more thorough. The tiles aren't affected by the lubrication at all, they just become a little bit slippery if you put too much.
Um, I think my Rubik's cube is a ripoff. Got it at Target for pretty cheap. Everytime you move it, it makes a loud spring/twist sound. It moves REALLY fast already I've been told, but I was wondering if I could still use this method without damaging it. Have you encountered this before?
I've used it to wear down a REALLY tight cube when I'm too impatient to wait for a cube to break in. The key is to not leave it in there for a long time, and to clean it out really well afterwards.
wow it is not that bad of a deal they are cheap. besides no one has even proved that it is bad.. cubes where down no matter what u put in it..but i do agree i dont like vasaline..it makes it smooth and quiet but not faster.. silicone makes it faster but not so much quiet
if u only have vaseline(such as me), this is what i do. first open up THREE peices maximum of your cube, put vaseline on a q-tip, spread the vaseline around the axles of the cube. do this for each side. with common sense it can be done opening the cube only once. wash your hands, wet a washcloth wipe the vaseline off; dry. if you feel you haev to much vaseline, open the cube, wrap your finhger in paper towl, wipe off as much vaseline as possible, everywhere, close the cube, wash cube/hands

Make sure that it's 100% pure silicone and it doesn't contain any petroleum products.

clifford2704 3 years ago
Your cube is only 2 days old or the vaseline has been in for 2 days?
If your cube is only 2 days old, solve it maybe 10 or 15 more times.
If the vaseline has been in for 2 days, just take your cube apart, WIPE IT THOROUGHLY, and put it back together.
See how it feels.
If its loose, great. If not, silicone it like I did in the video.

How frequent do you have to apply this?
Is it better than putting oil/cream?
Hmmmmm.
xSilas 3 years ago
You really only have to apply this once, but some people like to apply it more than once.
It's WAY better than oil/cream because oil/cream will actually build up and slow down your cube.
biggajigga721 3 years ago
Well, I actually went to K Mart today, and instead of buying it for $10, I just sprayed my cube. I find it much better than cream as it lasts longer? Iunno, but it seems better and we'll see how long it'll last.

craigg747 3 years ago
Unless you have a thick film on the outside (which should only happen if you spray it directly on the outside lol), the tiles should stick.
The adhesive on the tiles is pretty strong, so I would imagine they would stick.
If you're still reluctant, just tile it and then apply the silicone.
biggajigga721 3 years ago
Thanks!!!

WD-40, or any oil-based lubricant will destroy your cube. It'll make the plastic brittle, and eventually dissolve your cube.

Well, I guess I started too, but when I realized it was a materials listed, I thought I didn't need to read it. Fault on my part.

dont ever ever ever use WD-40 lubricant it will ruin ur cube all the way! when you put that in ur cube ur cube has an expiration date..

I've used it to wear down a REALLY tight cube when I'm too impatient to wait for a cube to break in. The key is to not leave it in there for a long time, and to clean it out really well afterwards.

oh god why can i use vasiline ? and what happenes if you put to much in it ?

If you use Vaseline, it'll wear away at your cube's plastic and make it weak. It may become so bad that your cube will fall apart.

wow it is not that bad of a deal they are cheap. besides no one has even proved that it is bad.. cubes where down no matter what u put in it..but i do agree i dont like vasaline..it makes it smooth and quiet but not faster.. silicone makes it faster but not so much quiet

if u only have vaseline(such as me), this is what i do. first open up THREE peices maximum of your cube, put vaseline on a q-tip, spread the vaseline around the axles of the cube. do this for each side. with common sense it can be done opening the cube only once. wash your hands, wet a washcloth wipe the vaseline off; dry. if you feel you haev to much vaseline, open the cube, wrap your finhger in paper towl, wipe off as much vaseline as possible, everywhere, close the cube, wash cube/hands
