I think this tsunami should serve as a warning to everyone in Japan, that next time there is an earthquake, you run as fast as you can to higher ground. Don't even wait for the wave just run.

This is so sad, I was stationed in misawa a few years back and Hach was the place to go to hang out, sad to see it like this

even if they predicted 3m waves, and there was a 25 ft high wall I still wouldn't be caught dead driving anywhere near the coast. in 2004 the entire world watched a tremor out in the ocean create waves that were much higher, Everyone they asked about the quake said that they have NEVER felt such a large quake in Japan then why would you take for granted how big the following waves would be? making assumptions about how powerful nature will be always leaves man the loser.

As I cannot understand Japanese, I am left to wonder what the annotations said.

Also, I agree with @Bhraihh that too many people were driving at the shoreline, when they should have been heading for the hills or tall, reinforced concrete & steel buildings.

Many died on the road, I believe, really. I'm shocked to see cars moving near the shore, I was expecting that people had already left the shore right after the huge earthquake knowing about a tsunami will come right after it. I've seen so many videos where moving cars were swept on the roads on other areas as well.

@Bhraihh Moral of story: "If you are in a 9.0 earthquake that lasts for 5 minutes and you are near the coast - get to high ground immediately". These people were probably trying to save their cars, computers or cash registers. And it cost many of them their lives.

The tsunami warning predicted 3m waves, the sea wall is 10m high, they never ever expected a Tsunami in excess of 15m. The biggest ever recorded in Japan before was 6m. Even people in designated tsunami shelters died when the waves engulfed those as well.

コメントありがとうございます。仰るとおり陸の方まで海水が押し­寄せてきているにもかかわらず、岸壁をウロウロしている車がいた­ので、見ているこちらがヒヤヒヤしました。

実際、この岸壁で津波に飲み込まれてなくなった方がいたそうです­。

私自身、この規模(2メートル70センチ)の津波は初めて見たの­­で、結構恐ろしかったです。場所によっては10メートルを超え­た­ところもあったようで、あらためて津波の恐ろしさを実感しま­した­。

確かにテレビ等では被害の情報が多く流れていますね。つい2日ほ­­ど前の停電時、(ラジオで)ライフラインについての情報がさっ­ぱ­り流れず、結構心細くなりました。

海岸付近の会社に勤めていますが、浸水の影響で自宅待機状態です­。

地震の翌日に会社周辺を見に行きましたが、何とも言い難い状況で­した。

住居を失くされた方々・浸水被害に遭われた方々にはなんとお声を­掛けていいものか・・・。

自分には直接的な被害は無いのですが、仕事ができない為に賃金が­大幅に減少する・職を失うかもしれないという間接的な被害の危険­性があるので、毎日不安です。

今年は次男が小学校に入学します。リーマンショック後に職を失い­、何十社と面接を受け、ことごとく不採用の通知を受けました。現­在も非正規雇用なのですが、無職であった数ヶ月間の穴埋めをしよ­うと必死で頑張ってきました。そこに、この震災です。今後の生活­が不安です。

自分の無力さを痛感するばかりです。

こんな事を書いても仕方無いのですが、誰かに聞いてもらえる場が­欲しいと思い、コメントさせて頂きました。

漁業、水産業をはじめ、沿岸沿いにある企業はまさに「大打撃」を­受けた事になりますね。

私からは「未来を信じて頑張ってください」としか言えませんが、­1日でも早く仕事が入るよう、心からお祈りしています。

八戸もかなり甚大ですね。ただ、原子力発電所と10メートルの津­波の場所ばっかり報道されています。

たまには復興しました的な映像も欲しいです。これは単なる欲です­。すみません・・・・
