  • "Do you ever get hungry?" No reporter lady. She rarely eats so naturally grehlin shoots off in her stomach which makes people hungry but nooooo...not in her. now that, was a dumb question.

  • @kaichrono This disease is way more than just going ro rehab. It takes over your mind and makes you see yourself completely differently.

  • That reporter is rude, not understanding, and retarded!!! :p butthead!

  • Can't she go to rehab? Amy is really acting like a bitch.

  • ridiculous!!! This REPORTER is moronic! Her questions are so insensitive and inappropriate...

  • Just that question.."Do you want the anorexia to be gone?" wtf... what does the reporter thinks? Does she honestly think that anyone would ever want anorexia to come ruin their lives..? geez... I am speechless.

  • @zejzild If I didn't know a thing about anorexia, I would have asked the same thing, and other questions that seem ignorant. I honestly think eating disorders are something a lot of people really don't know a whole lot about.

  • Omg she's so pretty...

  • OBVIOUSLY she said it knowing it would upset her, its all for the show.

  • More food than I expected? Use your fucking brain that's going to make her want to eat even less you stupid woman!

  • 4:36 WTF!!!! What a dumb bitch...

  • The parents need to get her out of the home. They can't even work at full time jobs. Nothing can be normal for anyone else in the family. She's a control freak who loves to have everyone attending to her needs only.

  • this reporter is an idiot. no person with an eating disorder wants to hear that they're eating more than expected. you fucking twat. my therapist i had when i was in the midst of my eating disorder would tell me the days that i looked "healthier" and the days that i looked "thinner" my "healthier days" were motivation to lose weight.

  • @MACJunkie88 So we all need be carfull of our word around people with eating disorder????? It is HER DISEASE and part of healing process is to learn who to deal with these type of comment .

  • I remember when Bronte told us (the eating disorder unit) that she was going on 60 minutes - we were horrified. We couldn't believe she'd get better without major intervention after that. Anorexics use their body as a weapon when their afraid - ie pulling up a sleeve, when scared of a question they've been asked. This is what she's doing when she says "i don't usually wear tight tops." To be on tv will make her feel that she will lose her power if she gets does better, not a good idea

  • ooooooooohhheeemmmmgggeeee thats soooo awks omg I don't think the blonde lady meant to be rude or anything she's just a be slow if you know what I mean haha.

  • her smile is so beautiful......

  • my mother did the same thing. she said, well im surprised you ate that much...

5min later i threw it all up :/

  • That reporter is a fricken idiot! Is she serious for saying to ther that was a lot of food? WTF was she thinking? She is probably going to make the poor girl worse now, or cut back her food even more. she was just clueless. you have to be very careful what you say to a woman with an ed, I wish I could talk to Amy and help her.

  • oh my god I am crying now because of how stupid an insensitive that woman was... !!!! I am just so upset... she should be fucking SHOT

  • Oh my god... she just basically says TEXTBOOK everything you are not supposed to say to an anorexic... oh my god... that is horrifying... that poor girl will probably slash her intake by two thirds now..... STUPID BLONDE JOURNALIST!!!

  • I wish I could understand what she was going through, it seems so insane to me

  • Omg, "that's more food then I expected..." REALLY? How could you say that?

  • This family is enabling her to the extreme. Time for an intervention anyone?!

  • I get that she has an eating disorder but she also has a behavioral disorder and behaves like a spoilt brat. Her parents and brothers deserve a medal for having to endure her disgusting meltdowns as well as her anorexia. Having a child on the autistic spectrum I know it is sometimes hard to separate the illness from the bad behaviour but this woman's behavior is out of control. When is it time for the rest of the family to get some peace??

  • @tdickson71 That's funny because l've felt the same in regard to an autistic cousin l have. Yet l don't feel the same toward anorexia - l get it, l remember the constant emotional pain - that doesn't even make sense....There is talk of anorexia perhaps being on the autism spectrum...

  • wow. this is why i got out of the world of journalism. All idiots. Does she think she wouldn't be insulted by thar?

  • Can a smarter person do the interviewing?

I feel so much for this whole family

  • Watching this was like being on the outside and looking in at myself. I feel so sorry for everyone around me.

  • i know that feeling when you're falling apart and looking for someone to blame.

  • god, this is painful to watch. like on the surface, before thinking deelply, i want to be ' UGH QUIT WHINING AND EAT SOMETHING! STOP ACTING LIKE A CHILD' but i have an ED too and i know the self loathing and pain and angst that comes along with it. and while her family does coddle her, i see the pain ALL of them are going though.. she must feel so awful and full of guilt and anxiety :(

  • that blonde lady is the biggest idiot, the fuck is she doing.

  • Omg I cant believe the interviewer told her she had alot of food.. Wow so rude

  • @58windsong clearly you don't understand this illness. God forbid you ever get ill, because then maybe someone may feel the same way and say that you're underserving of sympathy and help.

  • @58windsong Well this girl has not got control over her tantrums as you call it.And if you don't have sympathy for her then u must be a cold hearted person.many people suffer in this world from many different things. And I have a 15 year old daughter with this illness and it is pure hell to watch her go through this and it is very hard on her family and freinds. we r middle class working to get by and also struggling to keep our family together and pray to one day have my daughter healthy again.

  • Amy kind of has an attitude.

  • Why the HELL would she ever say that her diary contains a lot of food? That is LITERALLY the worst thing you could say to an anorectic aside from telling them that they're fat. My goodness.

  • Most of the comments on this video made me feel sick. There definitely needs to be more education on eating disorders.

  • 58windsong .. The only thing that is disgusting is your lack of compassion. It must have been hard watching something you clearly can't understand. Yes we need to fix alot of things in the world. Anorexia is a mental illness with the highest mortality rate than any other psychiatric disorder. There is no cure.

  • Comment removed

  • @58windsong So just just because other people are suffering means that hers doesn't matter? If you care so much about the people in poverty then why don't YOU get off YOUR worthless ass and do something about it instead of criticizing her for something she can't control! Or why don't you just go fuck off and die you little cunt BITCH!

  • i know their family personally, her father is a priest at my church. her parents are the most kind, understanding people i've ever met. they never manage to bring amy into church with them, and if she does come, she often would end up leaving in tears. her family is so strong for trying to get through this. and they are all amazing people. her parents do co-operate with her, but how else would you deal with it!? they can't just tell her what she can and can't do, she won't accept it.

  • @BLAH101ful, I was wondering how she is doing now. Someone who posted a comment on one of the other videos about her three months ago said he/she saw her at a mall and she was still very thin. I think it's wonderful that her family is faith based. I believe that their faith in God is what is keeping them going and hanging on during this time of crisis.

  • eeh... "I'm surprised you eat that much", how could you mean well with a comment like that?

  • @muuuab yh, i would be offended too and im not even anorexic! poor amy :(

  • @muuuab, yeah...I totally agree. If someone has an eating disorder like this, they never eat enough. Even if it's more than what you would predict, it still isn't enough.

  • @muuuab I would have reacted a hell of a lot worse to that then she did.

  • @muuuab that reporter bitch should go on a diet, cuz she's fat. she has no right to say she eats a lot of food since the reporter was a cow!

  • That was not 60 minutes I want my money back.

  • As someone who was diagnosed in 2004 - and as someone who's been healthy and in control since 2006, watching this video was very difficult. When it comes to Liz upsetting Amy, I'm afraid I agree with Kixshani. I'm sorry, but Liz would of done so very much damage with that one well-meaning comment and it's simply unacceptable. Sure she was compassionate (she always is) but more care and research should of been done before interviewing such a broken, fragile girl. I'm sure Liz felt terrible too.

  • As far as I can tell, it's not just Amy following the "rules in her head".. it's her whole freaking family co-operating and encouraging these rules. Her parents and psychologist seem to be actually facilitating her anorexia. She's too physically weak to possibly be running the show, they should stop trying to tiptoe around her temper and just start making all the decisions for her until she's actually chemically balanced in the head.

  • @jemiph1 yes, i agree!

  • I agree with guythatlikeasia just eat people are 300 pounds heavier and like how they look so. So quit complaining that your fat your a walking skeleton you crazy bitch

  • what a pretty young girl she was she now looks like an old woman, she may cure her eating disorder but the damage she has done to her body is severe. We have witnessed a young girl have a fatal heart attack on the front lawn of her house after years of suffering anorexia she weighed 26 kilos when she died and looked like a walking skeleton. She was once a very attractive teenager with a good figure what a waste of a life. I wish the family well

  • fuck it,, just eat a big mac for christ sake. fuck those "rules" in your head

  • Schizophrenia affects both males and females.

  • Also let me remind you that there are women who have recovered from anorexia. I don't see people recovering from mental diseases like Autism or Schizophrenia. That just proves this disease is for selfish bitches who want attention. How many MALES out there have Schizophrenia? NONE. Point = proven.

  • I am not claiming to know anything about eating disorders, but if hypnosis can help people that are OVERweight, could it possibly help people who are underweight? Food for thought, so to speak...

  • I was just discharged from being in hospital with Amy. She is an absolutely beautiful girl and it killed me to see the pain on her face with every meal that was set infront of her. Amy you're in my thoughts every single day, I am praying for you.

  • she's really really pretty i think.

  • Cried so much watching that...i understand. I understand her so much. But even if you regain your weight...the feelings never leave. I still starve myself for long periods of time just to be thin stay thin. Forever perfect in this demanding world. :(

  • Too many uncompassionate people who have no understanding of this disease watch and comment on these types of videos. The ignorance of some of the respnses people make anger me beyond no recognition. Stop watching if you are not willing to even try to understand the pain these people go through. Too many jerks in this world who open their mouths when they have no comprehension of what they speak of....

  • When she says "Don't treat me nicely". That just kills me.

  • Most mentally healthy women would feel self-conscious exposing their daily food intake, and discussing their weight. But it's almost impossible for one who hasn't experienced an eating disorder to even begin to comprehend how difficult it is for somebody with anorexia to discuss that topic. Especially in front of a camera.

  • 4:38 lol look at her neck XD she looks like a turkey

  • When I see the out bursts with the slapping and collapsing I immediately see her disease not only take her down but everyone she loves with her. I don't believe she chooses these actions or behaviours. I see end stage anorexia brain damage and complete descent into the hell of addiction. I know her behaviour looks upsetting sad butI be think about if she was autistic or she was schizophrenic these are two mental conditions that are known to hallucinate be aggresive and talk jibbereish

  • Comment removed

  • @greatbitch8891 ikr? seriously why are these people wasting so much time, energy and money on her? for fucks sake she probably won't last the week, what's the point? just let the stupid bitch go..

  • @greatbitch8891 Then I reccomend you don't have any kids. You're a heartless bastard.

  • its sad she cant even say what she eats..this is a disease i cannot understand..it is a mental illness ohh hell yea it is..we take for granted that eating is just a normal part of life these people fear loath and feel ashamed to eat i cannot even imagine thinking like that..and they think they are fat i dont even see how they see that..what a way to die she is just wasting away..i dont think she wants its gone look how long it took her to answer that.she needs major help and fast..

  • She reminds me very much, too much, of myself.

  • 4:32 what a fucking douche bag why would she say that

  • There wasn't much food there at all. It's probably about 500 calories at maximum. That woman is just incredibly ignorant.

  • I can't stand how the family constantly coddles her. >.< I know anorexia is not easy, but sometimes you must put your foot down sometimes if you want to get anywere.

  • @misundrstd2000 I'm sure they have tried, she is going through so much pain that they just want to comfort here

  • wow 6 years of her life suffering through this bs and shes 23? wow she could of had friends. had fun in her life, instead of staying home and worrying about food all day and night

  • Oh. Shit. I don't blame Liz in the slightest, but I can completely understand Amy's reaction. In her head she essentially heard Liz say, "You're eating a lot you fat ass, I'm surprised you're this thin." Illogical, but true. *sigh* Fucking eating disorders.

  • Wow, when you are speaking to someone with anorexia, their family, you see the suffering, you don't look at the person who desperately needs recovery and say, "To be honest, this is more food than I expected." They really need to teach cultural sensitivity to people, they can cause more harm, or exacerbate symptoms. Of course this would mean irresponsible journalists wouldn't have a job. So sad.

  • Liz is insensitive/a moron. That comment doesn't help her eat more, it obviously is a judgment that she isn't eating that little, that she isn't that controlled at starvation. That comment would make her eat even less, and Liz doesn't even know the portion sizes from that diary eg. Lunch of chicken caesar salad probably wasn't full of mayo, croutons, chicken/ a huge portion for Amy to be staying at that weight

  • oh my gosh. her face when the interviewer said that she eats more than she expected... that was awful

  • i know she is ill.... but she is absolutely rude. its not her disease or ocd. she is using that as an excuse.

  • @sheptama You are so wrong. I don't have anorexia, but I do have OCD. If anyone in my family do something that "isn't right", I get upset/angry/bitchy. Not as much as this girl, but then again I come nowhere near her when it comes to being ill.

I feel bad for how I react, but it's impulsive and I can control it. I'm a very controlling and calm person otherwise. Amy said she felt bad too. It is the disease, nothing else.

  • @Mycenaea you even admited yourself that you aren't as bad as she is. Yes things might be impulsive, but she goes off on entire tantrums. I think she suffers from rudeness. And I'm sorry that you suffer from OCD, and thank you for sharing your perspective with me

  • @Mycenaea I agree. I too have OCD also Progressive M.S. I've been diagnosed OCD since I was 5, I'm 32 now and now I'm stuck in an Electric Wheelchair and can only move my right hand and wrist. Nothing else. Any is not using Anorexia or OCD as an excuse (@sheptama) it IS a fact of life for OCD sufferers. Any change in routine can be devestating to people with OCD. Having the Anorexia on top of it... it's another form on control. It's an extension of the OCD. I'm sure most Anorexics have OCD.

  • @Mycenaea Being stuck in the wheelchair and watching my carers doing my housework, cooking for me, dressing me, it's really hard! Having to keep silent about the way my home is now being cleaned is difficult. I know and accept, on a LOGICAL level, that the girls can't do it the way I used to do it, but at an ILLOGICAL level, on the forefront, I want to scream! For example, today during domestic assistance, cleaning the shower floor, I used to use a toothbrush for the grout. It's just mopped now

  • @Mycenaea It kills me knowing that my shower floor, and the rest of my home isn't being cleaned right. I can still see every speck of dust and dirt and it drives me crazy and also stresses me out, continually, because it's so dirty (in my eyes). That's the P.O.V of OCD. It's not logical to others, but to OCD sufferers, it is. Just like Amy with her obsessive control on how much food she eats. It isn't logical to normal eaters, and she herself admits that she knows it's a mental thing...

  • @Tiggie2000 -- I just think you need a job and a life. When you get those two, you'll be a normal person who goes out there to pay their taxes and be happy instead of worrying about 'issues' such as whether your bathroom floor has been cleaned four times in the day.

  • @Mycenaea ...but it's not as easy to just stop being like that. Her brain is telling her that she's fat. She's her own worst enemy and she knows it but she is powerless to stop her own self-destruction on her own. She knows it's going to be a long and hard road back. When she has her moments, she doesn't do it on purpose. That's also beyond her control. I posted my experience with the shower thing to show a tiny glimpses into OCD. Magnify by 1000 and that could be a bit on Anorexia. No logic.

  • @Tiggie2000 Not sure why you're quoting me. I never said she could control it just like that...

  • @Mycenaea I'm really sorry, I was just expanding on what you said, I didn't mean to cause any offence toward you, I totally agreed with what you said. It was more an expansion of what you told that other one who thought that she was being a brat. I am not as bad as her either, but I was just trying to show people a small snippet of what could possibly be going through her mind and how people with OCD will go off the deep end but the anorexia pushes it that much further.

  • @sheptama

You are absolutly right. She is so disrespectful. It is hard for families with an anorexic family member thinking: "I can do and behave however I want! I am the sick one!"

    I know.. :-(

  • Liz already knew that conversations about food were the toughest ones for Amy to talk about and that anything she said to Amy would likely be taken in defense. Uttering the words, "more food" within the same sentence to anyone who's anorexic insinuates that they are eating more food "than they should." An honest mistake, I'm sure, on an ultra-sensitive topic.

  • I used to act like that. I never got that bad though.

  • This girl, Amy, is one of the most bitter, angry, and out-of-control anorexics I have ever seen.

Anorexic or not, this girl is a selfish pig!

  • @SmallKrum >> that's..... cold and heartless.

Remember that when you're pointing at someone, there's 3 of your fingers pointing at you.

  • @Bdoll2 No, I call it like I see it.

This girl is a whiny, rude, and selfish person. She uses her anorexia as an excuse to act that way towards the only people who care for her. She owes them an apology.

  • @SmallKrum >> I know she looks like that. But when you have anorexia, you don't give enought food, not only for your body to work properly, but also to your brain. That's why every sentence she says becomes a drama. Look at her : it's even hard for her to answer questions asked by people who are not in touch in a daily basis with her. It's a mental illness : that selfishness and aggressivity are parts of the symptoms.

  • @Bdoll2 In my experience, most anorexics are quite and kind...they suffer in silence. This girl put her famly through far more hell than they ever deserved. She is a cruel person and to say it is 'okay' for her to act like that is WRONG!

  • @SmallKrum >> I agree that she's going too far. But that girl is sick. Anorexia is an illness. She must be cured, and I think, also treated with compassion. I don't think the ways she talks is the matter : her life is so much at risk. The priority is to save her life, and then, after, to correct the behavior.

  • @Bdoll2 there is no cure for an eating disorder. Recovery is what we've got.

  • @TrustorBust716 Yeah, it is always there, you just have to ignore it.

  • @SmallKrum The mind of a person who is starving herself to death does NOT THINK RATIONALLY due to chemical imbalances in the brain caused by severe malnutrition. Amy's parents are dealing with behavior that is related to Amy's emotional outbursts and NOT behavior that is related to who she REALLY is (before she became anorexic.)

  • Yeah people have a right to point out her mistake just as I have the right to point that everyone shouldn't act like she's a bad person because she said that to Amy.

  • i 100% completley understood why amy walked away... people HAVE to understand when talking to someone with an eating disorder you have to choose your words extreamly carefuly.... by saying that was alot of food, she tooked it as "WHOAA! YOU EAT ALL OF THAT, MAN YOU NEED TO CUT DOWN" thats exactley how people with eating disorders take it..even if you mean well. They dont see it that way. they see it as a complete insult.

  • I think everyone needs to quit being so hard on Liz,she's a journalist,"not" a psychiatrist or mind reader for crying out loud.

  • @LadieWebster Exactly. She IS a journalist. Saying something like "This is more food than I expected" is like saying that you're not as sick as I thought, which can also be interpreted as you eat too much. Even the smallest amount of research would tell a person with common sense not to tell an anorexic that she eats more than expected.

It was a stupid comment to make, but it doesn't make Liz a bad journalist. People have the right to point out her huge mistake, whether you think so, or not.

  • Comment removed

  • I can totally understand the girl's anger after that silly comment. How can it be "encouraging"? It's like saying that she is eating much more food compared to the quantity extreme anorexics generally eat. It is not a compliment nor an encouragement to say that to a girl who controls calories and portions of what she eats daily. The last thing she wants to hear is that "she doesn't eat so little as anorexics do". She doesn't want to feel she's not eating too little..that's a scary thought.

  • When you judge the quantity of food an anorexic eats is like judging the way she looks as well. "You do not eat so little as I expected" would be interpreted like" you could be skinnier if you ate less". The blond lady turned out to be very ignorant.

  • OMG why would you say that. i know she's an outisder and only ED syfferers can understand the inner torment and suffering and therefore know the right questions. but why the hell would the producers allow that question to be asked and expect an answer when they can obviously see that she's very very fragile and sensitive??????

  • om this family fucking stupid they are allowing her to kill herself she controls everything

  • can understand how she feels of wanting the disease to go away, there is always a part of us that wants it gone but that other dark side won't allow us to let go of it. It is so easy to be triggered by a single word as they say, its so true. One incident, one word or action can crush us and send us back down the spiral of the viscous, scary cycle. I have yet to let go of the struggle myself, not sure if I ever will, only time will tell, I guess

  • HOW is she not FREEZING COLD...I couldn't stop shivering and I was like twice the size...

  • she should NOT have said "thats more food than I expected"... if she knew anything she'd realize that is a HUGE trigger.

  • @thehapagirl92 Quite seriously. My issues with food are so minor compared to hers, and yet when I eat in front of my boss and he says, "Hey, you really like that sandwich!" it's horrible. I might not eat for days. The poor dear.

  • Wow...this young woman is nowhere near even being ready for recovery! And this family is SO ill and enabling!!! And...does she even HAVE siblings? Because I only SAW a few young men in the background...I can't believe they did not even speak! This young woman is ruling her house with her ED...it is time for major treatment...remove her from the home...put the familly in treatment for severe codependency...and then we will see...

  • @ksopik Couldn't have said it better myself!

  • Ha, loving how Liz Hayes is trying to be so innocent in her comment about Amy's food. Don't forget, Liz is a journalist for 60 Minutes. If the story isn't dramatic enough for a while.....they'll make it dramatic. This network has done story after story on anorexia since Bronte Cullis in the early 90s. If Liz did the required research for this piece by looking back on previous stories, that comment was no mistake.

  • @sraphael But how can Liz be so stupid! It's so OBVIOUS that since she said "Oh you ate alot" is REALLY bad. Ugh.

  • @sraphael well said, and my thoughts exactly!

  • Liz has clearly not had any experience with talking to an eating disordered person. Maybe next she should say that she's "not that skinny" to really bring the house down

  • Don't you think perhaps it is iportant for people to see that? The intense reactions and warped mindset? The story is an inside look at the ramifications of this disorder, as horrific as it is. I don't understand why they don't just section her under the mental health act... thats what they do to me. It is not a cure, but it bides time. Thanks for uploading this, my parents wouldn't let me watch the story. incase it was triggering.

  • omg.. what a b*ch how dear she upset her.... like why the hell would you say that

  • @supereend666 Liz isn't a bitch for upsetting Amy. It was unintentional. The normal eye can't comprehend how someone with Anorexia will interpret a comment. Liz was a compassionate person during the filming of the show.

  • Comment removed

  • @ubergiant I don't agree with you. If you are doing a documentary about anorexia you MUST know that the subject is mentally ill,and a simple comment on the quantity of food she allows herself to eat could compromise her whole week, she could attemp suicide or self-harming for such a thing. She should have thought about what she was saying, maybe demanding "do you think that this food is sufficient for you to gain weight and being healthy?" . That would have been different.

  • @Kixshani It wasn't intentional though . . no one can 'understand' fullywhat this girl goes through except herself really. . so its infair to try make others . . kinda ?

  • @ubergiant absolutely. I mean, if someone tells me I look good (god forbid "healthy") all I hear is "you're too fat!" It's really the disease just fucking with you, and there is no way for anyone else to predict or understand the way a comment will make you feel because anorexia is completely irrational.

  • =( i wish her all the best...
