Why does it always seem like my defense is out of place?

I really really hate when people are using the containing button, it ruins the game, i dont know why fifa created it, but it really sucks! So freakin' hard to get the balle trought the defender if you haven't got som skills. But now after watching all your skill tutorials over and over again im getting pretty good at it. Id love this new defending system if they took out the A button functionality, infuriating when people just hold A, makes it incredibly difficult to dribble or skill past anyone. Certainly hard to make it look good anyway.

How do you do pressure defending? Most people I play against, they close you down very quickly and the players get the ball straight off you if you don't do any skills. Even when you change direction quickly they change with you at same speed? how are they doing that? is that something to do with settings?

New system needs work. Find my players don't work with me and they leave gaps, which I could nothing about. I like it, but think they need a couple extra options like telling a defender to stay with his man or watch the run.

Doing nothing at all works for the best for me.... what a game xD When I try to defend for myself I always end up with the ball in my goal. When I pick a offence player and just watch my defence taking care of it, nothing goes wrong... Is the game that good.. Or am I so frigging bad?

hmm... When I button-bash the contain button my players just run around like headless chickens (just looking at the ball) leaving gaps in the defence... This isn't really working for me... Does someone have other tips? I even try to send al my players in defending (including the offence players). But still, as soon as I change the controlled player he runs of in an other direction.. And when I press A(X360) he is just circling like a dog chasing his tail...

This is how I defended in fifa 10 when it first came out. I dont play it much anymore but thinking of buying fifa 12. I always kept a men behind the ball, whenever one of their players with the ball went forward, I held O down for the cpu to attack while I controlled the back man to cover. It always worked whenever I used Australia and played online. Changing the custom tactics to 0 pressure, agression and containment, and played on the counter, my defence was inpenetrable !!!

Patrick, when you say: press the contain button over and over again, do you mean that you aren't holding it in? Do you press and release it and then press then release it? because in this tutorial you're never really close to the ball with your defenders. Also I would like to know how I should tackle the ball in the red line area , is it time to hold in the contain button for a longer time or what? please clarify :).Thanks in advance, btw I want to thank you for posting these great videos.

Are you ever letting go of the contain button while defending?I'm holding in the contain button now and never release it while moving the left analog stick away from the attacker because I think that's the way you do it and it's working for me, I'm doing a lot better in my defensive play, thanks, now I just have to start playing as well in the attacking side but these 1-2 passes that you're doing aren't working for me yet. Sad that the top comment on here is about his accent. After playing fifa since 2003, I think that Fifa 12 has the most difficult AI by far. I found Patrick's tutorials incredibly useful and would like to thank him for being so knowledgeable and also for sharing it with us. Nice tutorial. :) I figured out for myself that the tackle button (circle) is completely useles except in desperate situations! lol. It feels so alien to be tackling without actually pressing a button (apart from L2 to jockey.) Don't get me wrong, this is a nice video and good advice but this video just highlights why FIFA12 is such a terrible version. I am not supposed to attempt a tackle unless a player enters my penalty area? The tutorial's correct, but it's ridiculous that that is the case! I want to be able to press and win the ball. I want to dominate games with superior tactics. I used to be able to do that, but not in FIFA12. You will be destroyed if you aren't willing to spent 60% of the game waiting.

@FloatingOnAZephyr This tutorial meant to build up your defense and it's very good tutorial if you are new to Fifa 12 or really struggling with defending. After becoming very good, you can add tackling high up the pitch. Tackling is all about timing and also the tackling attribute. If you time it right, you can pull spectacular tackle anywhere on the pitch. But because many struggle with timing, it's advised not to tackle often.

Close down the opponent and when you are closer to him, use Jockey button (L2 for PS3) and he would either give away possession (panic pass leading to poor pass and u will intercept) or you will out-muscle him off the ball. I use combination of teammate containing (default R1 for PS3) and Jockey button. The player am controlling uses Jockey and marks potential-danger player. It's hard to explain by writing.

i continuously press the contain button , , but none of my defenders press the opposition player and take the away. my players simply go side to side , like jockey, push their arms, but never actually put on a real (ccontain) tackle..

Every formation I use, whether it's 4-1-2-1-2, 4-3-3(barca's default) or 4-3-1-2, there are too many gaps in my formation and my team decides to walk everywhere(being lazy). Not only for defense but for offense. What am I doing wrong cause I'm tempted to sell it or burn it into the ground..

Bad tutorial, that guy ripped your defence apart and got the cross in straight away also you say you should only tackle your opponent in the box? tackle in the box = penalty on fifa 12.

Also why should we speak german when your broadcasting in english to the english public.

Get your facts straight, go learn english and re-make the tut.
