  • so cool

  • Wearing a helmet in flat water is fine, not wearing one is fine too. None of us are in any position to tell someone weather or not to wear a helmet. (That said wear on in whitewater!)

  • Wearing a helmet in flat water is not comparable to wearing a seatbelt while driving. Wearing a helmet in flat water is comparable to wearing a helmet while walking. None of us wear helmets when we walk do we? There's about the same chance if not more that one will fall and hit there head while walking as there is flipping in flat water and hitting ones head on a rock.

wearing or not wearing a helmet is the kayakers decision, respect their judgement, its their brain!

  • i dont fuck with mother nature..

  • sea kayaking is like whitewater without the fun

  • @fccboater1

EMMMM You should try it with me!

  • who is the musician(s)) i like them sounds like jbt. and i like the clip will get the film

  • As fantastic as this film is.......

Why dont you always were helmets?

There are a few times in this were the paddlers dont have helmets.

Ok the sea is very deep. But what about close to shore, especially at the base of cliffs?

And the guy who hand rolled @ 3:05? Its very clear how close to rocks he is.

Like I said, very cool trailer, really well made, but bad form on not wearing helmets 100% of the time.

  • what's up with you and helmets

don't get me wrong safeties very important but when they weren't wearing helmets there wasn't any current or surf

at 3:05 there weren't any waves that would send him closer to shore

Do you always were a helmet when you paddle even in flat water

  • Yes. I always do. Every single time I paddle, helmet goes on. Its actually part of our clubs rules. Noone paddles unless they got a helmet, even on flat water.

Answer me this, when you get into a car do you put on a seatbelt, even if its a journey you've done a thousand times?

    See what Im gettin at?

  • @ntilley88 I wear a seat belt only because it was made mandatory by the state gov here in MD. " CLICK IT OR TICKET" is the Draconian slogan for their policy. And my speculation is that it was only made a law because MD no longer was willing to foot the bill to clean up the aftermath of a crash where someone was thrown through a windshield. Fair enough I suppose in that context, but I don't need people to regulate my choices for me regarding my personal safety.

  • @yinyangthang

Ok, but regulation isnt the point.

Personal safety is the point. Why wouldnt you wear a seat belt?

Because its uncomfortable or you dont like it or its not cool or whatever?

I mean thats pointless. How can anyone be so flippant about their own personal safety as to paddle without a helmet or to drive in a car without a seatbelt?

  • @yinyangthang The government doesn't care about people like you to them the price that the insurance company pays for them is more important

  • @yinyangthang There are two words that have no place in sea kayaking they are, Never and Always.

For my part I anm a third rate swimmer in frigid water so a PFD and thermal gear is a must. In Virginia I know people that may not weat a PFD.

In Newfoundland you need it all.

  • @yinyangthang You don't wear seat belts to save you in a crash though the often do, you wear them so that in the event tyou have to make a sudden action to avoid and accident you don't lose control of you car. It keeps you in front of the wheel so you can maAke the second manuever that keeps you from crashing. If you didn't have you belt on...after the first sharp menuever youd most likerly be on the passenger side of the car an truly out of control!

  • @ntilley88 while its not the smartest move, on calm days like this kayaks are extremely stable. Even on the choppiest days I've only flipped my kayak once and it was my first time out with a 5ft swell.

Helmets are defiantly smarter, but in the end its a personal choice and they can be extremely annoying so most anglers won't even consider them on calm days which is very reasonable.

  • @caseydxb

Its a personal choice? It shouldnt be. Its illegal to drive in a car without a safety precaution so why do a dangerous sport without safety?.

The argument that the sea/lake is deep is not god enough.

The personal choice is even worse argument. WHo doesnt respect their own safety? And as for annoying? Buy one that fits and is sufficiently padded.

If this film was made by Irish kayakers, their would be an outcry over the lack of helmets from the paddling community here.

  • @ntilley88 I believe that "guy" is a lady ...

  • Support Kayaking Cinematographers, buy this DVD... I did...

Beautifully filmed and very engaging, I'm happy to have added it to my collection...

  • Nice trailer. I look forward to seeing the video. May I ask what file format you used to load it to youtube. It looks really good and i am having trouble getting good results and advice.
