  • In the jeep....

  • I know you were carrying your Jetboil in the water bottle pocket and you had some Mountain House food with you. But where was your water? How were you carrying that?

  • @thenetwerx in the video he said he was carrying a hydration bladder in the compartment closest to the shoulder strap. remember the bladder tubing was routed down the should strap with the bite valve under the pals webbing.

  • I just got it. It is a cool pack. I think that a quilt or tarp would fit into the larger rollypoly. I wonder if it would balance properly if it were clipped to the front of the pack. Might be a nice way to add some space when needed.

  • Is there a spot for a quilt ? It gets cold at night in a hammock :)

  • @msjcl1 ...Not a quilt but maybe a small poly blanket in or at the bottom of this pack...

  • thats not really a good pack for a day hike.

  • I can't really decide between the sitka and the kodiak. I'm gonna use for work/EDC, but also for hiking/travelling, so I don't wanna to buy something that's too big/small!

Also, I carry on the right should I buy the S type?

  • @AndreaTiby ....You'll like the Sitka better and the S type...Thanks for watching...

  • Would this be too big for an EDC for a woman? I have a jumbo and that is not big enough for all of the "stuff" that I have. I tried a mondo.. but that seemed really big, but I like the look of the gear slingers. What do you think?

  • sablebush...I really think the Kodiak would be a bit much...Have you looked a the Lunada? I found this to be a really good size for an EDC..I have a review on my channel on this gear slinger and I think you might find this just right ...Hope this helps!!!!

  • Your reviews are excellent...thank you for that...

    Question for you...

As an EDC carrying a 15" laptop and gear etc...and also a weekend day trip pack...which is better the Kodiak or Falcon II?

  • jmmagyar ...Thanks so much....The Falcon II would be my choice .....

  • Great video as usual! Looking at getting one of these - just wondering what dimensions the 2 x sleeves are in the main compartment ? Looking at trying to fit a 15.5" x 11.5" x 2" laptop in one of them. What do you think? I know the dimensions of the website state 17" x 10", but just wondering if it could fit with some persuasion. Cheers! Keep up the good work

  • kinda huge, the sitka is big enough for me, good review

  • qHighFlyerp ...It is a big pack and the Sitka is a great just right size ...Thanks for watching.....

  • great review thank you for showing the angles while wearing the pack it really helps people see the true size of the product

  • oesterle63 ....Your very welcome and thanks for watching

  • The other gearslingers I have viewed were/are too small. The Kodiak is the ticket. Thanks for posting.

  • HighSpeedNoDrag ....Your very welcome

  • -- Great job! I'm considerig one as my next Maxpedition purchase.

  • AppalachianFreedom ...Thanks so much

  • Thank you for taking the time out to make these awesome videos! clear and extremely informative!

  • ilavatelli....Thanks for the comments and for watching....Take care

  • Hi there!

Thanks for all the great reviews you make about Maxpedition!

I would like to ask you about the Kodiak if it always rides that low as on the beginning of your video while you wearing it? Or if it was the weight! And how tall you are cause I am 5.7 & 150pounds (got wide shoulders though) and I am not sure if the bag will fit me (or look stupid.. in that case I would go with a classic backpack like condor or falcon!) Thanks in advance!

  • Neomik2410 ....Thanks for the comment and the Kodiak could ride a little higher if you wanted to adjust that way. I had about twenty lbs. in the pack and I wouldn't want any more than that on a one strap pack. I 5'8 and 177 so we are close in build so that should give you an idea if the pack is a fit for you. Hope this helps some. Take care...

  • @cjc5531 That helped in making the decision! I will go for the Kodiak. Since I now know that the dimensions of the bag will not be an overkill for a sling style bag! It really helps if you know that the guy who wears it on his back is not that much different in build than yourself! Since I have to order Maxpedition & other gear online and there are now physical stores around to see the stuff before ordering and sending back is not an option! Thanks again from far away Greece!!! Take care!

  • Neomik2410 ...Your very welcome and always great to hear from Greece....

  • @cjc5531 Finally I got the Kodiak and I am fairly surprised by the size of this bag! It's huge! But in a good way!

It was the right decision for the intended use I plan for it and it is really a well made and a uniquely designed bag!

Thanks again for the help and take care!

I will make a video of my impressions about this bag so stay tuned!...

  • Neomik2410 .....Good deal and let me know when you make the vid...

  • Love your reviews! I really am deciding between this and the Condor II.. I am a big fan of the Gearsling series. Which one would you recommend for every day use and maybe a day hikes? I just don't know if the price difference between the two is worth the room difference. thanks again and love your reviews

  • Jon89maccom ...Condor II would be my pick just because of the two straps..Really depends on what you will be using the pack for, I have a few gearslingers and I really like them and I still use one for an EDC. For more extended use on the trail I want two straps on my pack. Hope this helps and thanks for watching...

  • @cjc5531 I am just a fan of the gearslinger series. I am used to the on strap vs. the two strap and probably don't take as long of hikes as you do. I am sure it's just a personal preference. Great review though! thanks and keep it up!

  • Great review, After watching this I ordered this gearslinger, And have been using it for a couple of weeks and im loving it, Used it for a 2 day camp in the bush and have been using it for work too carry my chef whites in. One question i have for anyone that views this comment, does anyone now were i can buy one of those reusable space blankets(like used in this video) in the UK. Again thanks very much fir the review.

  • kvn1201 ...Thanks so much glad it worked out well for you...It's a great pack

  • I would love to have a nice pack like this one. Currently I have a medium allice pack. I like the versatility of the frame on the Alice but I like the organization of the max packs. I need to add that I am a large fellow. 6'3" and 300 lbs so small packs can be uncomfortable. Do you have a recommendation for me.

  • Nice to see a review with the bag actually setup for use. I know it took some effort to load it all up for us, just to unload it on camera, so thanks and great job!

  • mikenc1515 ..Thanks so much and because of people like you it's all worth while...Take care!!!!

  • I changed my mind. I ordered mine yesterday for an EDC bag.

  • FatDaddy4Fun hope it works really well for you take care.....

  • Man! Thanks so much for modeling that bag. I see a lot of reviews on table tops, but it is important to see someone wear it and see how it rides. You getter a better idea of scale too. I appreciate the vid. This gear slinger is too large for EDC. I'll go with a Sitka. And a Vulture 2 for bushwhacking. Thanks again. Thumbs up. ~Wolf

  • I carry a lot of weight usually on horseback but sometimes hiking. I was wondering how comfortable it is carrying all day hiking. Does it kills shoulders since it doesn't have waist belt?

I was considering this or their acutal backpack

    Thanks

  • paco40ful I think in your case I would go the two strap backpack ..Maybe the condor II pack...

  • I carry a lot of weight. Sometimes on horseback other times hiking. Is the versapack comfortable enough to carry all day meaning does it kill your shoulders since their is no waist belt. I considering this pack or one of their actual backpacks.

    Thanks, for the help

  • G'day mate, great video. I was wondering if you'll be able to carry that and a Sabrecat at the same time? Seeing as you have both, you're uniquely placed to give me an answer. Once again, brilliant videos, very informative and succinct.

  • Shaynooooo the sabercat would fit under if you choose to do so...good luck and thanks for watching..

  • Do you think you can fit 5 shirts, 2pairs of pants, and a sweater in this pack in the main compartment? I am wondering if it is large enough for traveling? Thanks for the informative video!

  • georgio941 I think that would be a little to much for the main compartment, maybe lose a shirt or two...Thanks for watching...

  • Hey thanks for the video, I have noticed you have reviewed both the Kodiak and the Falcon 2. According to the specs the Falcon is supposed to be bigger 1520 cu. in. vs approx 1100 with the Kodiak. With all the pictures I see it seems the Kodiak is as big or maybe bigger than the Falcon 2. Would you say that the Kodiak would make a good bug out bag or should I go with the Falcon? I am a lightweight camper. Go with Tarp and blanket vs, tent and sleeping bag. Thanks for your input.

  • For a BOB I would go with the Falcon or the Condor..I really like the Kodiak but my go to pack would be one of the two mentioned above...Thanks for watching...

  • good review (as are all of your others). I'd like to pick your brains if I can. I'm going to order a fliegerduffel with 2 6x6 pouches for long haul flights but I am also after a backpack, mainly for daily use (want to carry a laptop) but would also like to use it for overnight camping, walking. I'm thinking falcon 2 with 2 rolly-polys on side but wondered what you would suggest !

  • Thanks...The Falcon II is a excellent choice and my laptop fits great in mine..This pack has so many compartments its really a great all purpose pack..you won't regret it....Take care!!

  • Good video man (helped my purchase decision), thanks for the upload.

  • GoldenColts your very welcome....

  • fele34 ...no its the kodiak..

  • hi great review ! can you make a review on the gearslinger malaga???

  • SGCDriver ....Sorry but I do not own that one....Thanks for watching....

  • I have seen you do reviews on many different placks. It you were going to stay out for 3 - 5 days which one would you take.

  • calld2serve if it were 3-5 I would choose the Vulture II which I do not own yet. If I had to use what I currently own it would be the Condor II ....I think I could get 3 days anyway..Thanks!!!

  • i would like the pack more if it had 2 straps like a normal backpack

  • OregonBackpacker I agree...I'm more of a two strap guy myself...but it still work great...

  • how do you like it as a multi day pack. Is there enough room in it for more than 2 nites

  • It could be done but I would rather use my Condor II for that...The Kodiak would be pushing it a bit...

  • great review .. great product.. I love made in USA stuff .. I just wish Maxpedition products are availabe in my region :(

  • Thanks for watching...

  • Great review as always.

Im considering a maxpedition bag for my get EDC/BOB. Due to the single strap how much weight would you say you could comfortably carry in the Kodiak for long periods of time? Thanks for any help.

  • I had this one packed with about 22 lbs and after about 4hrs. you knew that you had it on....Thanks for watching...

  • great review

  • Thanks !!!!!!

  • Great review! New subscriber here..I have a lot of questions, but I can find most of the answers myself. Except...what's the name of the reference book? I'll probably pick it up on Amazon..

  • Thanks so much....The name of the book is Pocket Ref by Thomas J Glover...Habor freight has these as well if you have one in your area...

  • Great video. I just got one in foliage grn and thanks to your video, I now know what most of this stuff is for ie the whistle. This bag is too cool and this is a great review!

  • Thanks for the kind comments and enjoy your pack...

  • Good review, ive seen other review with the same product and the guy's just pack it to much.

One guy had 3 flashlight and 4 knive, anyway i think you understand wath i meen!

Im going to get that Kodiak for my self, good work sir!you just sold one.

  • Hey Thanks so much... you'll like it....Take care..

  • i like your video reviews about gear but you use the exact same song for each review

  • Hey thanks....I did change songs on a couple on VID's and I'll keep that in mind for the next ones.

  • Great video! I am recovering from major surgery and once I am cleared I want to go back to regain my focus. I am new to these civilian packs and was accustomed to a 65 lb ruc. I like the Kodiak but do you suggest the Sitka? I am 5'7.5" 190lbs. Your suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

  • Thanks....I got them both and I guess it would depend on what you are going to do...Hike , Camping or EDC. I really like the Sitka for a scout pack and the Kodiak is good for overnight. Then if I want couple of days the Condor is the one I take out.....Hope that helps somewhat...

  • Great Video. Thank you..!!!

  • Hey Thanks so much....

  • CJ, do you think a good amount of weight in this pack would cause it to sit lower than a normal dual-strap backpack? Just my assumption, but I thought it looked to sit low when you showed the view of your back. Thanks

  • Yes, I think so..It was loaded heavy and you made a good observation on the pack. I could still manage the pack and it really performed well for a single strap. I guess its really comes down to personal preference...Thanks

  • Backpacks or bags with only one shoulder strap will give you back pain and possibly spine injuries. So they are suitable only for small bags with low weight. Two shoulder straps will distribute weight better (larger surface) and evenly (no side pressure). You can find articles on this topic with Google. Good luck.

  • Wolf ....Thanks for the heads up on this topic...Take care...

  • cjc, I have trouble gauging the size of these things. Could I ask your height and weight for perspective?

  • Sure....I'm 5'8" 178 lbs. Hope that helps....

  • Yes, thanks... I'm 6'1 265 and frequently find stuff to be too small, but I think that Kodiak would be good...

  • How does the single strap ride over long distance hiking? This is the only thing that concerns me with these gearslinger packs. Great review

  • Lex I have two different gearslinger packs and it has never been a problem for me. Its really tuff to say if this would be a comfort problem for your or not...Based on what I have experienced its not an issue with the distance for me...Hope this helps and Thanks for watching......

  • Two questions though. Firstly, have you tried slinging the Kodiak on the shoulder by the side? How comfortable is it? Just curious.

Secondly, is it possible to attach the Proteus or Sabercat to the front of the Kodiak? Would it hold securely or would it flop around?

I'm thinking of attachment options that may be compatible with other Maxpedition products.

  • Question 1..it would depend on the load.. I picked up my pack once I read this and I had about half the load as you see in the VID. It felt very comfortable to sling it that way if I understood you right. I think if I have the load as shown in the VID I think it would get old quick. Question 2..Proteus would attach but not the Sabercat. The Proteus would be secure on the PAL webbing if attached right ..Hope this helps...

  • neat! Thank you. :)

  • hello, just wondering if you've had much experience carrying it fully loaded for an extended time? just wondering how it is on the shoulder! otherwise i think i want this or the sitka..thanks!

  • I had it fully loaded but just for about 3 hours..Shoulder strap is padded really well. That's all the time so far I have on this pack. The reason I chose this over the sitka is the size and the outside pocket for my stove...Hope this helps....

  • hey thanks alot!

  • I noticed on the malaga! There is a drain hole!? So I wont be going with that one! Dose the Kodiak have this bad feature?

  • Great review, I just ordered this pack and I can't wait till it gets here. I like the hammock and the Jetboil also. 5/5

  • Thanks Bryan, I know I really like mine......Take care....

  • Nice look at the Kodiak from all sides CJ. Was wondering how diff. it was from the Sitka. Looks spacious.

  • After viewing your VID it was a tuff decision but I had to opt for more space...Thanks for watching!!!

  • this will be the next pack I order from Maxpedition, good review

  • I think you'll really like it...Thanks for watching

  • Another good video CJ. Thats a serious bag. Im looking at the Sitka for my new work EDC bag. Keep the good reviews coming and thanks for the info on the FR-1.

    5/5

  • awsome video Cj i just uploaded some my self the other day fell free to watch em but awsome pack buddy

    Regards P. Nielsen Viking-Survival

  • Great breakdown on the pack...

  • It's actually SRB. Which stands for Side Releasing Buckle.

  • Yes I know that I said SBR just a slip....

  • Okay, All that jargon is confusing sometimes.

  • Thanks! I have been looking for a video review on the Kodiak!

  • Thanks for watching....

  • Another fantastic review! I have a jumbo versi-pack, condor 2, spartan wallet and a 10x4 nalgene holder. All khaki. Excellent quality gear. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Thanks for the review.

  • Thanks...All great items and mine is Khaki also just thought I would try the OD green. I have always been willing to pay for quality and I have always been happy with it..Take care..
