  • Beautiful version!

  • Very nice improvisation.

  • Well played man. You know how 2 treat her right, that Strat.

    Tks.

    Vanu

  • yeah dude! completely agreed. the improvs were very tasteful and bring your musical personality which itself is great!

I like the thunder and rain in the background! :)

  • i like the way u made that your own, very tasteful, clean and honoring.

  • Thanks a lot man.

  • I wonder how a T.C. Electronics stereo chorus would sound in the signal chain would sound? That's the chorus that EJ uses.

  • Yeah I wanted to get that one man. It also has a clean sounding stereo output - so you can run 2 amps without buzz or noises. I'll get it sometime, but for now, i just have a boss GT8 doing all the work.

  • My band covers this tune. I think you did a fabulous job on this. Not an easy piece at all. What chorus pedal did you use?

  • Hey man. Thank you very much. I didn't use chorus at all actually. I am just using delay throughout - going straight into the amp (slapback). And I am using overdrive on the middle part.

  • Nice to see you have added some of your playing into this song making it your version very very good I am working on the song myself and having fun with it

  • Thanks man that's awesome. Yeah i learned it from guitar techniques, but i couldn't remember the whole thing note for note, so i improvised in places lol. It's either my style, or laziness LOL

  • Oh sorry never mind, probably we don't know each other :P Actually I have an EJ strat and I love it. I didn't get a chance to use it yet for any clips, but its my main axe for my Polish weddings band. It sounds glassier than this guitar and very snappy. This guitar is a fender highway 1 with Alnico 2 pickups (Seymour duncan antiquity). Alnico 2 are a bit different sounding than 5s found in the EJ strat. Good luck.

  • oh.. I thought you were playing on an EJ Strat. It's really tough for me to tell

the difference. I've heard good things about the highway 1.

Guess maybe I should consider the highway 1 as well then.

  • Alex, you're a great player.

    Beautifully done.

Hearing you just makes me want an EJ Strat all the more.

  • Thanks a lot man! Who are you? Do i know you in real life?

  • man,, just amazing, great technique and sound, i like your stile. awesome work!!!

  • Thanks a lot man.

  • absolutely amazing to say the least...how did you get that sound?

  • Thanks a lot man. Glad you liked it.

Those are Alnico 2 SD Antiquity pickups. They're 70 bucks US a pop. So $210 for the set... Alnico 2s don't sound as glassy as Alnico 5s. (Hendrix, SRV used 5s)... They are still glassy - but more meat, and rounder sounding to my ears.

I'm playing into a Fender Blues junior amp.

And ofcourse Delays are very very important when you're playing EJs stuff. I'm running delays into the amp, and then adding more delays in Cakewalk before mixing down.

  • dude, love your cover...thunder and effects were awsome..keep on rocking

  • Awesome sound man!

  • very nice man. nice stat too...use to have one just like it.

  • :O absolute dynamite

  • thank you very much.

  • OMG you sound like HIM.

Great job my friend. I'm going to make another video mix. You and EJ together.

  • Could you explain bout the effects using on this one . . .

    Thanks

    Great playing, Awesome Thunder . . .

  • Nice job..sweet tone EJ's da man!

  • Awesome execution! That gives me some ideas of my own.

  • is dat vintage 57 hotrod strat...and bita thunder. good play!

  • Hey man! Thanks! That's a heavilly customized Fender Highway 1 strat. It has Seymour Duncan Antiquity Alnico 2s in it, and 9 way swtiching. The guitar also has graphite saddles on treble strings only. Glad u liked the thunder lol.. I also added some water and wind at the end lol !!! Gotta have the elementals.

  • lol .thanks for clearin that up for me.

  • a player of your caliber could be playing this with the harmonics. i think just that little addition would make this perfect.

  • Not too bad but where are the harmonics?

  • Excellent job man. Eric is very hard to cover & you did it marvelously.

  • that was beautiful. im envious

  • sounding good, well done, your a good player

  • ahah yea man great job..i thought it was actually eric johnson playinfor a minute. props man

  • Tone was amazing!!! feel of the song was captured gorgeously too! 5 -star

  • This was always one of the few songs out of the few I know of EJ's that I liked. :-) Right on dude!! Great job, you did the original one great justice!

  • Nice. How a strat SHOULD be played.

    Tasteful and clean.

  • nice tone man, but when you get into the distortion parts of the song, and some more gain, and a tad bit more of delay. nice job though.

  • Nice 5/5

  • Wow, awesome job. Great song choice too.

  • i love your tone man... great playing... can you tell me your rig/setup you're playing out up? thanx!

  • Read my response below. I've already posted that info.

    Thanks

  • nice vid,nice music,nice performance!

  • Do you have this on MP3? I would love to listen to this on a better high definition recording. Excellent!

  • Nice job, guy. It looks like you love your strat like I love mine. I have a 1982 re-issue that is aging like the real thing. It is the '57 version, and IMO it is aging gracefully.

  • Thanks everyone!

2000 Fender Highway 1 strat with 2 Seymour Duncan A2 Antiquities in neck and middle, and a hotrail in the bridge. It is modded for 9 way switching, but i'm not using those positions. I also got 3 graph-tec saddles on the top strings.

Into a BOSS Keeley Ultra DS-1. Then into a BOSS ME-30 (delays only). Then into my Fender blonde Blues Junior amp that has a Jensen C12 speaker in it.

Recording using cakewalk Sonar 3.0, adding compression, EQ, and some reverb.

  • What sort of strat and equipment are you playing with?

  • NIce job

  • That was amazing.

Fantastic tone and obviously well recorded.

    Good job!

  • hey man! Thanks. Glad you like it!

The tab and backing track is from November 2000 Guitar Techniques feature on Eric Johnson. Transcribed by one of my favorite teachers - Guthrie Govan. In general, phenomenal guitar magazine...

You can also pick up any Eric Johnson transcription book at the local music store.

  • thanks a lot for the hint! I try to get the Guitar Techniques issue. (I cannot identify the beautiful chords between the picking and the octaves in the video...)

  • ...just wonderful! - Where can I get THAT TAB?

  • Hey i know all of you heheh!Yeah great tone and nice playing!

  • nice

  • Thanks guys! I appreciate the kind words. I wish I could write stuff like this myself. Working on it... :) Play on Bruthas!

  • Excellent guitar work...great tone...reminds me why I love playing Strats :)

  • Sweet!

  • Ahahahah I liked the Tone. Great Fucking Tone.

    great Clean!!!!

A little bit of delay and reverb in the background!?

    Good PLaying.
