Go to Wikipedia and look up the House of Wettin. This family has ruled several different swaths of earth at different times. It is over a thousand years old. The Queen is a Wettin, Windsor comes from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha which was a branch of the Wettins.
Also look up the House of Capet, Habsburg, Este, and all their cadet branches.
