if that is experience then I have learned nothing in 20 years , whats wrong with using a harpoon, then slit the gills , put a line around the tail ,tie it up to the cleat ,wait 15 minutes and then bring it in the boat. this video is a disgrace to any fisherman

Do you people realize how illegal that is? There is a reason rockfish stocks are depleting here, and ignorant assholes like you that just kill a fish and throw it back are the cause! If you are not going to eat it, why the hell would you kill it? Rockfish is actually very edible, and if you clean them correctly rival halibut or lingcod in taste. There is absolutely no excuse for this destructive behavior, and it is going to be funny to watch if a wildlife trooper catches you doing it.

@AlaskaDollySlayer I agree. Rock fish age extremely slowly, and a bigger one (yellow eye) could be a century old. They don't reproduce until they are between 10 and 20 years old, so wiping out an area is a real set back, and the area may never recover . They are delicious, and to needlessly kill them and toss them overboard is just stupid, there is just no reason for it! Use your head!

The fisherman on this video is a commericial fisherman who has years of experience and knows exactly what to do. There are some times in live, when the unexpected happens. In this case, they were fishing in shallow water for rock fish. They were not expecting to catch any halibut - expecially one of this size. This fish was caught just 2 min from our lodge.

Well I hate to say this, but no matter how expierenced your so called commercial fishermen is, he should have put his thoughts to the safety of his customers first, then the fish. Accidents happen, period, and that guy dosen't know what he's dealing with when he brings a fully alive 50-100lb halibut into a small boat with five or six people... Stupid, stupid, stupid...

I'm a commercial halibut fisherman and that guy was a dickhead for bringing that live fish into the boat.

You shoot them, and if you don't have a fish hold to put them into right away, you tie them outside the boat til dead.

you have to beat them to death or else they can either destroy your boat or break your legs i know a guy that had his legs broken from a 200 pound halibut that didnt bash its head before putting it in the boat. halibut have brains the size of a pea which also makes it very difficult to kill them.
