  • @lespaul10 Thank you very much, been looking for this one for a long time. Very kind from you.

  • Never been much of a Clapton fan, but that'll never stop me from appreciating what he did and the ripples it sent across music.

Great tone. Fantastic vibrato technique as well.

  • @JohnnyJohnnyJohnny thanks for your comment and thanks for waching

  • Clapton LIVES!

  • @ace69er thanks mate!!

  • sweet tones, perfect!! 4 stars

  • it's too good to be true!

  • You're doing a great job. Love the snare bending and sound of your guitar. Close to the treal thing. :)

  • Very, very nice.

  • I was there at the Ricky Tic Club 1966 when Eric played this with John Mayell. Windsor, England.

  • the cover is too loud ! Try again, anyway you got it !

  • Just nice to know and hear someone who

    really appreciates real guitar playing

    of early Clapton. Clapton revolutionized

how modern rock guitar was played, thanks.

  • @moonchair761 thanks for the comment and have a merry xmas.

  • This is awsome, I'm gonna have to study this video.

    Thanks

  • @GrizAdams111 thanks for watching

  • Man, thank YOU.!

  • @nogov4KB thankyou for watching

  • hey there, great playing

where did you get these backing tracks for the bluesbreakers stuff you do?

    thanks

  • Made the hair stand on the back of my neck a couple of times - the tone, the attack and the memories of seeing Eric play this 6 ft from me when I was 16.

    Great stuff.

  • @dreamsofhaegum ...perhaps the nicest comment ever...thankyou very much. You are one lucky dog to have seen the clapper in his prime days with mayall.

  • I cant' express how sweet that tone is and your playing is great. May I ask what pups are in that holy grail LP??

  • @4937645 Throbak SLE 101 limited in the neck and bridge

  • fookin awesome dude, great tone

  • Very nice tone and playing. You know Clapton in

his early days with Cream changed how rock guitar is played,

and his approach still stands today.

  • gotta say that the greenbacks are much more rude than the golds. Which isn't a bad thing ;D

I have a feeling that if u put it through a 1x12 cab with a greenback that it would smoke at a club or an average sized show, and cut the mix nicely.

Cuz lord knows if u hauled a 4x12 to most shows, and tried cranking that baby, the sound enginneer would have a fit.

  • Wow, I love this. What a sound.

Can I aks: where did you get that backing track?

  • Great Sound!!!

  • That's some of the sweetest tone on YouTube!!!

  • holy sustain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks and Merry Xmas!

  • Absolutely fantastic! THAT'S tone right there!

    Great playing too of course!

  • Well ... hmmph! I like the creamy cello quality of the Golds but the Greenbacks have that sting. Now I wonder what a blend of the two would sound like (guitar players are such hopeless tinkerers).

And you, sir, are one of the very few players I have heard who can do justice to Clapton - and actually the Super Clam is kinda cool I think.

  • LOL...thanks for the comment, yeah I'm getting used to the "super clam". I agree, I am partial to the 20 watters...as far as combing the 2 together, the golds are so much more efficient...the point is, you cant hear the 20 watters over the golds. The golds are probably about 15% louder than the greens. Now using a combo of the 20 watters and 15 watt blues......now youre talkin, that would be some tone!!

  • Great job and great tone! One thing you could have used was a treble booster, it gives that slightly scratchy, less midrangy feel to the sound you hear in 'Have you Heard'. But you come very close in terms of tone. Another thing people should take into account is to take notice of the way you move your fingers and use of vibrato, to get that Clapton thing going, you seem to have done that very well.

  • I appreciate your kind words and advice on the treble booster. Thanks very much.

  • I believe that "scratchy, less midrangy feel" has more to do with the 20 watt Celestion Alnico silver speakers than a treble booster. It's been hotly debated, but there is still no photographic evidence or eyewitness accounts that verify any use of a Rangemaster. Vid is awesome BTW, lespaul10! Killer playing and tone!

  • It feels like there's a compression pedal in use, but I think it's the natural soft compression of the amp 'cos you didn't use any effects. I like that. A finnish blues-guitarist Albert Järvinen had a pretty same kind of tone which is my favourite, but as this is almost the same, I'm going to buy this amp in future. Thanks for you showing the best tone from this amp.

  • Thanks for the comment motor.

  • Very good. What effects are you using with that amp?

  • Thanks, no effects used. I did add a little reverb post edit, other than that, no effects were used.

  • Killer good man...Chops & Tone!

  • 10% OFF....!!!

  • great job. loved the music

  • Those G12M heritage speakers really nail the beano tone. IMHO this is the closest by far I have ever heard and really goes a long way in proving the case of what Clapton would have used in his JTM45 Marshall combo. Are your p/u's stock gibson? I have SD Seth Lovers in my paul, probably the best new PAF copy

  • No my pups in this guitar are the throbak SLE limited 101's. Thanks for the comment and kind words.

  • I have always been a clapton fan from cream era-blind faith-derek and the dominos, but your playing has shown me the true genius of claptons early recordings.

  • Yeah me too, always been a huge fan of the early clapton.....your words are very appreciated, goodluck and thanks for viewing.

  • 9th time listening to this one Dr.! :25 to :31 sucked ALL the tone outta that one huh? Love the slow, deliberate tone coaxing and the vibrato on the up bends. Yooz St. Louie boys really keep me pickin up my wood. Would LOVE to hear you with a real drummer behind you.

  • This sounds great man! Smooth playing Phil. I think speakers sound better!

  • Yes...that is what I am talking about! That tone is straight out of this world perfect.

    All the best,

    Joy/the Leopard Lounge

  • Thanks brudda!

  • You're very welcome...but I"m a GIRL, okay? lol

  • What are your settings?

  • normal channel 7-8, presence 6, bass 3, mids 10, treble 10.

  • Yea,that's the sound-sweet mamma!

  • I shipped a Deuce a' Two Vines off to Mystic..right?

I'm puffin' on haif of the Feuentes as we "speak"..(.)(.) (.)(.)....

  • LOL...you old dude!!

  • That's sounds great you really nail the beano tone on that one your a inspiration for all us searching for the holy grail of tone.

  • Thanks SG........its been a long search for me and well worth the wait......metro 45 = tone from above!

  • gear, schmear. p, your tone and touch are off the chain! i think no matter what you play through, it'll sound great. rest assured i'm copping some of those licks...once again, killer playing!

  • Thanks squank, I appreciate your comments.

  • wow.... the greenbacks sound way better than the golds. imo

  • Yeah I love the golds but the greens just do it all for me. Thanks for watching and the comment.

  • I'll STILL take the Heritage 20s for this application. Be nice to hear 4 Goldens against 4 20s. We'll EXPECT a NEW CAB by next week moneybags..(.)(.). What was your Bass setting on this one Dr. ?

  • Bass setting was as usual....about 3-4 max.

  • I'd HATE to be your B string..especially @ 4:18 ! IMHO, the combination of just the right amount of Verb, those yummy 20s, the corrected volume and the Electron Gateway created between the TBaks and the 5yr. old dried Latex slopped on those Painters' Pants all contributed to your Sting-a-Ling there Doctor. Tuning into your Vids ALWAYS INSPIRES THIS OLD GEEZER to pick up the Wood and start to SAWIN'. Send me some of that Gateway tap water sos I can sound like U & Big D ! Super Clip P.....

  • I think someone owes me a few bottles of wine!! Thanks for the kick in the ass Pop Pops!

  • The pick attack "squeak" and the "sting" from the 20 watters are fabulous.

For me, I think the slightly more nasal, crunchy sound from the Golds may be a bit closer match to what I hear on the album, but it is a darn close thing.

    Really enjoyed your playing Phil!

  • Thanks Bigs!

  • thats the one - killer!! I think I prefer the tone of the golds, but thats the beano tone there for sure!! Man this has got me confused - before hearing this vid, I was utterly convinced the original was alnico speakers. Now I'm not sure, because I remember some other clip you did through the golds which also nailed the beano tone! anyway, great clip and top playing - some nice feel!

  • LOL...I know what ya mean........the highs and mids have that certain sting about them compared to the golds. Thanks JB for the kind words as usual.

  • And a star is born. I really do want to record you on my Scully 280.

  • LOL.....I wish it were possible.......but unless youre in the gateway city.......well.........thanks for your kind words, much appreciated.

  • Oh its possible. I live in Pontoon Beach!!!

  • Pontoon Beach ILL..........holy crap thats like 30 minutes from here........uh oh!!

  • This is absolutely georgous! But you know what? Certain licks/tones in this video remind me of ZZ Tops first album... And we all know, that is a good thing!

You've got the tone, phil. Stop looking! hehe

Oh and... Thanks for posting your mic setup! I just can't seem to get good results with a SM57 close-micing my 4x12. If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to email you about it, and maybe you know the answer, since you have a pretty similar setup

  • Thanks Nug, drop me a mail anytime.

  • Combine the 57 with a condenser or ribbon mic at 6-8 feet away. That'll get more of the "live-and-in-person" character of your amp. Just watch the phase relationship between the two mics. Usually a subtle adjustment in the distance of the room mic can correct any severe comb filtering or cancelation.

  • Awesome as always !

I like Beano tone of this take.

  • much appreciated TMB!

  • 20 watts are 100 times better for the beano tone! great playin btw

  • Thanks T, so which cab do you like best....golds or 20 watt greenys?

  • That's some meaty tone right there Phil! Very rich and full sounding. Not to mention the excellent playing! The Metro 45 just sings with that guitar and your hands! Cheers, T
