This "oriental" experience was good from him to appreciate his own religion. Because he was not so sure about Christian culture he had a open mind to approach to other religions, in this case Buddhism, but he didn't became a buddhist.
This isn't hypocrisy, because he only wanted to find his path.

He can teach you the true meaning of what means be a Christian to you and any with the similar mind set as you.Do you know that Jesus hair style of Nazareth was not the same as the teachers of the Temple in Israel？So in this way Jesus hair style was also not according the Jewish priests norms right ?Use your brains man don`t be child.
