That depends on what you think is horrible. It is based on random chance, so a spearman could destroy a tank. But that is always more hilarious than frustrating.

A spearman is very unlikely to defeat a tank. It doesn't happen often. That is just a rare anomaly because of the random dice-rolling.

Armies are comprised of individual units which attack each other one at a time. Who wins is based on the strength of the units, the conditions in which they are fighting and luck.

I just downloaded the demo of Civ 5 from Steam, what a waste of time, i love RTS games normally, but this was just plain boring, the gameplay is complicated, boring and slow as hell.. Played it for about 30 mins, in which time i declared war on everyone, only to see a few spears flying, and soldiers falling down dead ... IMO - 2/10

Yea, this isn't really an rts. It isn't really about decimating your opponents. I have played several games where I haven't even been to war, but I still won. The other thing is that these games are LONG, ie. expect to be playing for 7-8 hours.

They aren't for people who like the fast action of other games, they are for people who want to develop a civilization. You are of course free to find it boring, but there are a lot of people who think it is one of gamings best series.

I agree, I do think this is a great series. I have only played Civ. IV, but I know the rest of them are great as well (with the exception of Civ. V, which is only good).

Of course it isn't an R.T.S.! It is turn based.
