Awesome! Love the precision in your playing. This is killing me; can you PLEASE tab the third chord you're playing in the intro at .10 - .17. Also I can't for the life of me figure out that LAST CHORD! Bravo on an excellent rendition :)
Hey, I've been dissecting this video for a while. Cheers for making a video that actually sounds like the song as it's played.
One thing that has me in the transcription is the E-like chord in the intro. The first 4 chords go Am, Am7/G, Asus4/F#(not sure on the name of it), and then Asus4/F. Right after that (0:18) it's an Am, then you use two chords that look very close to an E (this is going visually) at 0:22-0:25.
Any advice you could offer would aid me in tabbing this wonderful cover.
Glad you enjoy it. Yes, I do pride myself in being able to produce accurate renditions! The 2 chords you're asking about are 022200 (not sure of the name!) followed by an E. All the best, Frank.
@frankvyvyan You know, Those are the exact same chords I'm playing now. I guess I just have to listen a little closer to the picking pattern. It's a very fluid song, moves around a lot. Thanks for the clarification.
Great cover man! I'd love to learn this song but i'm afraid i'm not too at sharp learning picking patterns plus chords from just watching a video like this. If you ever find the time, a lesson of how to play this song would be greatly apprechiated! Cheers
Amazing job man, If someone told me you were Nick Drake (I dont actually know what he looks like) I would believe it. You sound great-- Ive been looking for how to play this song for months now, and now I think I can work it out. Thanks man
lol - that's high praise indeed! Well, I did go to the same school as him, but that's my only connection. Glad to have helped you out with the playing.
As much as I admire your loyalty to the classical technique, this song does actually require your thumb over the neck to fret the bass notes whilst playing the Am chord with hammer-ons. This is true for other innovative steel-string compositions, such as Davy Graham's 'Angi'. Time to get dirty, baby! :-)
cheers man - I learnt it by ear. Best tip I can give is that you need to use your thumb around the neck (on both the 2nd and 1st fret) in order to play the descending bass line on the E string.
Wow!! This is so so great!

UGH. Why does everyone do that thumb over the neck crap. As a classically trained guitarist... makes me feel so dirty to even attempt it.

Yeah.. I just can't do it. It's not pretention, it's just something I never developed. :/
eirinikos 2 years ago
yeah well you can take your classically training pretention elsewhere...here, we dont care much about it
