  • I think I speak for everyone when I say, now that Hitch is gone there will be a little less hysterical sex in the world.

  • I love how youtube wouldn't go to full screen during the sean penn interview. YOUTUBE sucks dead dix.

  • 9 Archbishops don't like this. Seriously, get a fucking life.

  • @emerald

Obviously depends on who you ask. My opinion on Hitch and his work is that it is Genius

  • @chrismrowley yeah you hit the nail right on the head.Genius

  • Comment removed

  • Give 'em god threaten 'em with his hell and they'll follow you and kill and die for you and for the god you fooled 'em with. Hurrah for Hitchens.

  • An open question from an American to anyone from the UK. What were the opinions of Christopher Hitchens and his work in the U.K.?

  • @EmeraldTriangle80 I've just written a reply but it seems to have vanished so this may be a repeat but...The general public didn't really 'get' him here. He appeared occasionally as on political media like 'Question Time' but it was his brother Peter who was more well known. On religion, generally people were too fascinated with Dawkins for Hitchens to actually have an impact and he rarely appeared in UK media to talk about it. It's a shame we didn't really appreciate one of our best exports.

  • @EmeraldTriangle80 Not to say he didn't and still has a sizeable following. He was well known in the literary circle but more for the company he kept I think. However his debates and talks were always sold out and surprisingly he was covered very thoroughly on the news here when he died.

  • Thank you Hitch, for inspiring a young dog like myself for re-enrolling in the art of Journalism, for the sole purpose of forming one's own views, and defending them to the death.

  • Wow. Is it just me or do many of these people really highlight how well hitchens spoke... Miss him more and more...

  • I realize that my comment is ridiculously late in coming, this being Feb. 2012, but I thought your comment was so beautifully written and found myself feeling humbled and encouraged by your humility and encouragement. I think that's the thing about truth and love, it keeps getting passed on.

    Thank you

    Tim

  • this was wonderfull..

  • logic is the word

  • Thank you Christopher....

  • HE SPOKE HIS MIND..WHICH UNLIKE MANY COWARDLY POLITICIANS, PATHETIC RELIGIOUS LEADERS AND OTHER "IN IT FOR THE MONEY" BASTARDS WAS HIS STRENGTH ...NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

  • I wish Stephen would get his nose straightened

  • Until know i can not point to af argument by Christopher that isn't absurd....childlich... the more he speak the more i believe in God..

  • @BackSideOFFThemoon Well, your spelling does seem to illustrate the point of Dawkins', i.e. religion getting in the way of education.

  • @BackSideOFFThemoon If you are a troll, bravo. If you are serious, you need therapy.

  • I can't begin to imagine a world without intellegent free thinking people such as these... as far as Im concerned this is where hope lies... I am humbled and encouraged... thankyou.

  • I miss him already

  • To kill a Hobbit sounds good.

  • This whole special seems a little dull :( I guess it was supposed to be different but hitch couldn't be there

  • Thanks for the freedom you have shown us rest in peace Hitch!

  • I got as drunk as I could at the family Christmas reunion to honor his passing. I tried to maintain coherent conversation, and it's tough, Hitchens makes it look easy. Though I did get along better with people (I usually don't), maybe that's why Hitchens said alcohol makes other people less boring.

  • @Jotto999 Hitch made everything look easy.....he even died with grace and aplomb.

  • The irony in Stephen's opening statement was absolutely brilliant.

  • Thank you Christopher Hitchens for all of your hard work and for inspiration.

What a great gathering of intelligent poeple - these people are the ones i look up to.

  • @sjatox Here here ...

  • A lot of interesting people together, whom I didn't know about. And although my heart wept by the departure of the Hitch, my mind made a leap of joy to see so many gathered there.

  • as soon as you'd say "knife"? just to rhyme with "life" ???? isn't that doggerel?

  • Stephen Fry, a legend. No one could have done it better.

  • 38:52 is hilarious!

  • SIMPLY LOVING the part starting at 7:18

"We are here to celebrate someone who shown that there is still, in this world, specially amongst the intelligent and curious young, a furios appetite for ideas, for knowledge, for thought and for the questioning of authority, for being a contrarian."

  • Stephen Fry did a great job

  • You blocked this in my country, but I've changed my IP, FUCK YOU iqsquared

  • I almost had a dick attack at 39:00

  • Your candle burned out long before your legend ever did.

  • Stephen is too drunk-high for this.

  • I don't miss Hitchens for one moment. His impact on me was so profound that I could never feel as if Hitchens wasn't with me, somewhere deep within the chasms of my mind. In 100 years, neither yours nor my name will be names on the tips of the tongues of the intellectual of the era. Christopher Hitchens will not be forgotten, lost to the pages of history. There will be more evidence for the existence of Hitchens than Jesus in 100 years.

  • @SolomonKull Well put.

  • Long live Hitch, thanks for posting

  • wow cute young Hitchens <3 :D

  • He will be so incredibly missed.

  • Dawkins chair could have been more comfortably positioned.

  • Sorely missed.

  • posted in my birthday - thank you very much for this.

Hitchens will never rest, neither will his work while people are still dogmatic and afraid of facing reality. It's pointless of saying RIP to man like him...

  • hysterical sex. i need to try it sometime.

  • Fry saying he is way out of Christopher's league. Well Fry if someone might be in that league.

  • There will never be another quite like Christopher Hitchens. A man of excellent wit, conviction and selfless determination to spread free inquiry and stomp out religious extremism, greed and lies.

We will all miss you, Hitch. Thank you for decades of enlightenment, for teaching us to think for ourselves and to remember (and not be afraid) that the world is not all about ourselves.

  • Chris, go in peace my lad. You're fondly remembered.

  • I raise my glass to you Hitch, Cheers.

  • Christopher, so long and thanks for your adamant opposition to the enemies of rationality and free thought.

  • I am personally saddened by the passing of one of my heroes, yet I am incredibly thankful for both his words, and the fact that his words were spoken in our age of not only books and film, but also the market of ideas known as the Internet. Hitchens is available to us in more ways than any previous freethinker or public intellectual of their time. His wealth of knowledge and erudition is ours to cherish and learn from, or conversely to silence and ignore. I, for one, do not intend on the latter.

  • We lost a great one, thats for damn sure.

  • It was good to have had the privilege to know about Mr. Hitchens, and his books, before he passed away.

  • Christopher, you will be missed by many, but through your books, your thoughts and mind-opening concepts will continue to influence the world.

  • glad he was there for us in my lifetime, even if his words came later in my life

  • Hitchens has changed my life. Anyone who can change another man's life has led a life worth living. So long, Christopher.

  • RIP

  • A beautiful tribute to a brilliant human being.

  • Christopher will be very sorely missed. One of the worlds greatest minds gone far far too soon. "Unable are the loved to die. For love is immortality." -Emily Dickinson

  • Sadly Hitch as he wanted to be called passed away December 16th in Texas USA.

although he will be sorely missed he will no longer suffer from cancer. My sincere Condolences to his beloved family and friends. Thank you Mr. Hitchens you will never be forgotten. RIP

  • Time to pick up Christopher's baton as best we all can.

  • does anyone know where can you find the unedited version of this event?

  • This video is truly a treasure. RIP Christopher. Thanks for everything and you'll be missed!

  • I for one am worried that the fight for reality that isn't predicated on assertions of the supernatural is coming to a head. It's hard to bear the loss of Hitchens.

This "pre-eulogy" is somewhat unfair to Dawkins, sitting there while the direction of the conversation moves to the screens.

  • RIP

  • i am so out of words for the man...

  • Sad to read the last line of the top most voted comment on this day.

  • sometimes I think people just go around watching random video's downvoting them.....

  • Just heard about what happened, he will be missed by me an other people, i just hope people wont e telling lies about him like him recanting before he passed

  • Rest in peace Hitchens you will be missed; and ironically, be remembered like a deity.

  • sean penn? seems random.

  • Gone but not forgot.

BTW I'm sure he'd bristle at anyone aiming a "Rest In Peace" at him.

He's neither "resting" nor "in peace".

Hitch is just fucking dead but I for one appreciated him while he was fucking here.

  • Goodbye, Christopher, and thank you for everything.

  • @whattothewhonow Yes thank you Christopher, for being the epitome of free and rational thinking

  • The world have truly lost a great member of its most dominant species of mammal.

Now there truly is a reason to fool yourself into believing there is a life after death if only to meet this fantastic journalist, author and fellow atheist. Rest In Peace Christopher Hitchens

  • You will continue to be an inspiration to people all over the world, Hitch.

    "Here's to you!"

  • "A true thing badly expressed is a lie" very well said.

  • So sad he didn't make it- REST IN PEACE Christopher Hitchens!

  • Rest in peace Hitchens

  • “The only position that leaves me with no cognitive dissonance is atheism. It is not a creed. Death is certain, replacing both the siren-song of Paradise and the dread of Hell. Life on this earth, with all its mystery and beauty and pain, is then to be lived far more intensely: we stumble and get up, we are sad, confident, insecure, feel loneliness and joy and love. There is nothing more; but I want nothing more.” ―Christopher Hitchens —

    you will be missed C.H.

  • May the worms choke on you, Mr Hitchens. You will be sorely missed.

(as I cry into my Johnnie Walker Black)

  • Love you, thank you, and RIP, Christopher.

  • Rest in peace hitch, we will carry on your legacy. You are immortal

  • Rest in Awesomeness Mr Hitchens, you have my life long respect!

  • Rest in peace Chris.

You'll be missed by millions and inspire many more for years to come.

  • Rest i peace Hitchens!

  • @bennythebearful

You are a horrible human being.

  • @drthunder481

No i am not. I opposed the massacre of women and children for profit. Hitchens supported it.

  • @bennythebearful

Too bad there isn't a hell for you to go to.

  • @drthunder481 it's funny because he's right. And the fact that you call him a horrible human being for it just shows how wrong the world is. 1 death is a tragedy, 1 million is a statistic.

  • RIP, Hitch. Raise a glass to one of the finest minds and sharpest tongues ever to grace the proud godless.

  • a greater man you can hardly find, given way to the passage of time.

  • a very sad loss. A brilliant mind in a human body.

  • Christopher Hitchens, thanks for everything. Your body might have expired but your message will ripple throughout human history.

  • Christopher Hitchens, You will be remembered.

  • i feel much hysteric sex in my dick for hitch

  • Ist there/Will there be an uncut version of this?

Not complaining, just interested! Thank you so much for this!

  • @044orange044

Yes, I would love to see a complete version too. Remembered watching a trailer when Prof. Dawkins talking about too much respect paid to "respect", but that part isn't in this official release.

  • Don't feed the troll! #bennythebearful

  • I've always enjoyed replacing the word LOVE with LUNCH. Or in rock songs, change "rock and roll" to "birth control". SINGS... I know it's only birth control, but I like it.

I love hearing intelligent people just being playful with language.

  • Thank you for the great books and debates. If I'd like to see anyone beat the odds on esophageal cancer it would be you, Christopher. Good luck.

  • @bennythebearful get back in your bunker benny, you forgot your tinfoil hat.

  • @ruckussful

ho ho ... how is fox news these days? Haven't seen it for ages

  • @bennythebearful

bennythebearful is an anagram for complete and utter douche.

  • @r22k10 as a consolation he might get to see Billy Grahm bite it!

  • Great video. My hopes and thoughts (not prayers) go out to Christopher Hitchens.

  • Is this the full video? It's awfully short...

  • yassar arafat also called for jihad and the complete annihilation of all the jews. So not such a nice man after all. He knew taqqiya very well.

    Nice talks though.

  • was this very recently?

  • @kx32ta1

this was about three weeks ago

  • The flower on Fry's chest is a poppy, for Armistice Day (November 11th), honoring those who gave their lives in World War I. The poppy is used as a symbol for the fields of Flanders, where so much blood was shed.

  • @EScottAndrews

In Flanders fields the poppies blow, Between the crosses, row on row. That mark our place; and in the sky.The larks, still bravely singing, fly. Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago. We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow. Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields.

  • Where's the women?

  • @hogan60 Oh come on... Are we really going to start that nonsense?

  • does anyone know what the flower on Fry´s chest is? I mean, what does it stand for? if I'm not mistaken I believe that I've seen both Hitchens himself and Julian Assange wear others like that too.

  • Hitchens does not have cancer because he is an Atheist, he is dying because he has made some bad habits in his life, but aside that he is a very inteligent and brilliant man! hope you pull through hitch

  • @gamergeektwo

Hitchens bought the NeoCon myth of Saddam's WMD and pimped the Zionist Wars.

aetheist Zionist = anti-Christian like his buddy Bill ZioZombie Maher

Only thing Hitchens was skeptic about is GOD, the rest of the proven pak of NeoCon lies he lapped up and reguritated to his Zionist Godless fans that are pimping Newt to bomb Iran and start WW3 for Israhell & Rothchilds

  • volume is too low

  • There is no purity in this world. Stephen Fry condemns "this cultural desert of celebrity worship" and then interviews Sean Penn?

Pass on the circle-jerk. Any of you really think Hitchens would appreciate this?

  • @cowlark2000

lol... who would you have on the show? Miss Erica Sullivan, mother of two, unemployed? How is having a famous guy on the show the same as celebrity worship? Grow up...

  • sean pean is looking like herb the perv, with hair

  • Man, I hate it when Barbara Streisand is on fire. I consider it a bad omen.

  • watching this, a quote comes to mind: "Tell me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you are."

what a man, what a life

  • It's sad to see all those people who became famous by using their minds to see through things-loose that ability when they talk about friends--is this the way to honor The Most Critical Mind of our era-with old anecdotes and making him a sort of Jesus-who gave his life to free us from religion-Stephen Fry is a silly man who loves nothing more a the world than his own empty ego.

  • @horrelvoet I agree with you. Good comment!

  • i hope hitch beats his cancer so he can hitch slap more idiots :)

  • @gamergeektwo I really hoped he would have beat his cancer as well, it is a very sad loss today....

  • @gamergeektwo Well, shit.

  • @gamergeektwo THANKS FOR JINXING IT

  • Apart from his views on "911 truth" for want of a better term and the second slaughter of innocent Iraqis by the west (it wasn't a war, either in 91 or 03) i agree with The Hitch and enjoy hearing him speak. Fingers crossed he pulls through.

  • 6:40 - I laughed.

  • Very good of IQ2 to have uploaded this, thanks!

  • I knew I admired Hitchens. Now that I learn that he enjoys PG Wodehouse, I find myself immersed in complete adoration.

  • Dawkins had nothing much to do. He was the scarecrow aka strawman on the stage :(

  • He really should only be known by one name. The Hitchenator! And he will always be my #1 personal hero.

  • why is eric a comic name???

  • @ivanmikhailov Exactly what I was wondering! The name Eric isn't funny. It's a cool name.
