The fact that polar bears can swim and do so to hunt often makes me care less for their ambush ice. I like seals better because if I was in nature, the seal is less likely to maul me. The seal survives better with polar bears struggling, but are still hunted to keep their numbers down by whales. Another animal that is better than the PB. I'm apathetic because this is a natural climate change that nature has to deal with, and we can't save them with carbon taxes and bigger government.

I know this is a bit late in the discussion but I wanted to comment anyways. Polar bears have survived much warmer periods though out their existence. They have also survived ice ages. There are researchers that have studied polar bears for 40 years or more that says that the polar bear population is on the rise and stabilizing. These researchers are not allow to speak at global warming summits because their processional opinions contradicts the political driven issue of global warming.

Polar bears are not endangered. Their populations have been growing over the past 50 years. They survived the far warmer periods of the Halocene interglacial period (our interglacial) as well as the far warmer ones previous to the Halocene.
Polar bears are cute now & will be cute through future glaciations and interglacials. There hasn't been substantial global warming for at least 8 years & most warming since 1910 was pre-1945 when CO2 had little effect.

Arctic sea ice, according to every available study (eg,NASA), did not decrease due to warming, but rather due to wind patterns & ocean currents moving ice into warmer waters where it melted--an abnormal, but cyclical, condition called the Arctic Oscillation (AO) & North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO).
Arctic sea ice extent has increased since 2007. Antarctic sea ice has been at record levels. Send me a message & I'll pass along the references.

my in-law's are inuit from tuktoyaktuk he says that the polar bears are so easy to hunt these days because there are so many of them. he also talks how muskox are so easy to take down the whole heard because they gather up in a circle and keep the young ones in the middle... in 5 minutes they are all shot dead on the ground and the tribe has food fo months. the conservation officer was there watching but he knew he would be dead if he tried to fine any of the hunting party.

In general they have 4 cubs but because of the ice, recent studies have shown the females are smaller and in return the cubs are smaller and weaker. The fact that polar bears can swim and do so to hunt often makes me care less for their ambush ice. I like seals better because if I was in nature, the seal is less likely to maul me. The seal survives better with polar bears struggling, but are still hunted to keep their numbers down by whales. Another animal that is better than the PB. I'm apathetic because this is a natural climate change that nature has to deal with, and we can't save them with carbon taxes and bigger government.

A barrel floating in the ocean will grow a seaweed farm. It would be easy to create rainforest sized algae farms mid ocean. The seaweed farms would photosynthesis, as well as the lifeforms themselves would be made of carbon.
Cheap. Proactive. Harmless.

This guy is full of crap. Polar bear pop. has increased from about 5000 in 1970 to over 25,000 now. End of summer ice increased in 2008 and 2009 was higher then 08'. He says we should set aside oil and gas development to protect the polar bear. Oil and gas production does not endanger the bears. Weve been setting aside oil and gas production for years due to these and many other environmental lies. This is what put the U.S. in the position of having to depend on importing most of its oil.

I don't agree with it, but you are right in a way. I mean what choice do they have? Actually the polar bear might become extinct. Global warming is happening too fast for animals to adjust/evolve. Best thing that we can hope for is for global warming to also take man out.

My point is that species come and go, maybe the polar bears aready evolved into the black bears or into dolphins and these are just the freaks that didn't make it. I know this is a bit late in the discussion but I wanted to comment anyways. Polar bears have survived much warmer periods though out their existence. They have also survived ice ages. There are researchers that have studied polar bears for 40 years or more that says that the polar bear population is on the rise and stabilizing. These researchers are not allow to speak at global warming summits because their processional opinions contradicts the political driven issue of global warming.

There is a petition signed by 31,072 scientists, including 9,021 Ph.D.s against Al Gore's global warming claims. In 2001 The Oregon petition had over 17,800 signatures and claimed that carbon dioxide may actually be beneficial to plant as well as wildlife.

let me make a prediction, sea ice will remain plentiful throughout the next thousand years and humans will have nothing to do with it. Polar bears, as a spices, will outlast humans, and the greatest population on Earth, the Chinese, will become the masters of the planet while the rest of the first world worries about whether or not they're being ecological while their politicians plunder their bank accounts through carbon taxes.

Polar bears are not endangered. Their populations have been growing over the past 50 years. They survived the far warmer periods of the Halocene interglacial period (our interglacial) as well as the far warmer ones previous to the Halocene.
Polar bears are cute now & will be cute through future glaciations and interglacials. There hasn't been substantial global warming for at least 8 years & most warming since 1910 was pre-1945 when CO2 had little effect.

Sorry to pop your baloon--I'm not a Republican. Arctic sea ice, according to every available study (eg,NASA), did not decrease due to warming, but rather due to wind patterns & ocean currents moving ice into warmer waters where it melted--an abnormal, but cyclical, condition called the Arctic Oscillation (AO) & North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO).
Arctic sea ice extent has increased since 2007. Antarctic sea ice has been at record levels. Send me a message & I'll pass along the references.

I'd say the sun is the cause of "global" warming since its the only think heating the earth, where does heat come from? The sun. Way before our human existence has temperatures ranged into massive changes not caused by humans use of CO2.

Of course the sun is the source of the heat, the problem with the CO2 is that it traps the heat in the atmosphere and doesn't release it into space.
Listen, I don't know either if this is going to be a disaster or not, but I would rather not take the chance.

How did they survive the Eemian Interglacial Era when there were no ice caps or glaciers at all? Sea level 25 feet higher then now. 125,000 years ago. How did they survive?

Facts are gained by research. Try it sometime. Numbers of bears today are from Polar Bears International and other sources. In the Eemian Interglacial temperature was around 8 - 15 degrees warmer. Polar Bears Survived. You have not heard of that? And you haven't heard of the Roman or Medieval Warm Periods? Sad. But to be expected from uneducated gullible idealists.

Just wait till Greenland melts folks becuase you'll kiss florida goodbye... not to mention all the plant and animal speices unable to adapt to the heat.
