Really I read the book and I found Rhett's behavior repugnant. He married Scarlett after Frank's death and by doing so he pounced on an emotionally vulnerable woman. His hostility to her when he came back from the trip was inexcusable. And spoiling Bonnie to vex Scarlett caused the child's death.
At the end of the book. If I was Scarlett I'd leave Georgia, throw money and care at Ashley and Beau, focus on Wade and Ella and move to another town telling Georgia society to kiss my lilly white.

Scarlett didn't care about Frank's death because she didn't truly love him, and Rhett was actually saving her from herself by marrying her. Otherwise she would have just found another man to use, and he thought he could truly make her love him. Turns out he was wrong - or so we think until Scarlett shows remorse at the end.
Bonnie's death was entirely an accident; Rhett's doting on her had nothing to do with it.

Not entirely. Rhett spoiling Bonnie rotten was part of the accident. Had Bonnie listened to her parents (Who BOTH said NO) she'd not have died. Rhett never educated her, all he did was spoil her and pet her. As for his behavior towards Scarlett....he was one heck of a hypocrite when he bitched at Scarlett over her lost reputation, given that it was he who basically told her that reputations don't matter. What about HIS rep? Both Scarlett and Rhett gave as good as they got.
I just re-read gone with the wind. i think Rhett is a prick. Used to not think so but after reading the book. I think i would have told him to pound sand years before he stopped giving a damn. I never liked Ashley and after this recent reread I like him even less. He's manipulative.
I dislike both men and had I been scarlett at the end of the book I would have said Fiddle dee dee - what am I going to do with my plantation today?
i luv this song..but when this line is said: "by keeping her heart protected, she never ever felt rejected... " i kept thinking didnt scarlett declare her luv for ashley and got heartbroken when he rejected her??
When I made this vid, I was thinking of the Scarlett that wouldn't admit her love for Rhett not even to herself, the one who learnt from her experience with Ashley... But you're absolutely right, and I never expected the song (any song, for that means) to fit Scarlett O'Hara perfectly.
I think she was mad that she didin't have her way with him, she didn't hurt over Ashley really, she just desired him; deffinately not love! So she felt dissed not rejected. but She felt rejected when Bret finally put her in her place. Good observation though, anyone who knows this movie is cool with me..haha
