@stephenmitchell2000 The explosion causes a fireball and a shock wave. The shock wave starts out inside of the fireball but rapidly overtakes it, so the two separate from each other, with the shock wave leaving the fireball behind as they both expand. For a brief moment, one can determine where the shock wave is by tracking the fireball. After that though, smoke rockets - launched vertically just seconds before the blast - are used so the progress of the shock wave could be photographed.
