  • At first I thought this was time-lapsed.....that was a pretty awesome show. It must've been pretty severe. I've never seen one that fast-moving, and I'm in NW MN. Thank you so much for sharing! It's so hard to describe to people who haven't seen it.

  • It looks like the bottom of a White robe, and Feet walking in the beginning of the Vid...awesome!!!

  • I remember when this happened. It was my birthday and I was driving home at some ridiculously late hour in the early morning. I actually pulled over to the side of the road and got out of my car in the freezing cold with just a sweater and just stared at it. It was by far the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Best birthday present ever. :)

  • i want to see one of those... :)

  • похоже на сияющих угрей (рыба).

  • I was in Polson, MT for this show. My mom woke me and I went outside with her. Amazing! A 360 degree light show, that formed bird shapes above our heads occasionally. Like Disney's "Brother Bear". I had to wake my 14 yr old daughter. It WAS massive. I'm glad I got to share it with my daughter. I was going to plan a trip No. to let her experience it, but we didn't need to. It came to Montana. Lucky us. After about 10 minutes though, it was getting kind of eerie, so we went inside. Haha.

  • I remember seeing this!! it was my sister's birthday and my mom yelled to every that to come outside and omg it was so so cool!!! i will never forget that day when i first saw the northern lights!!!!

  • Why is that weather channel logo projected onto the sky over the image of the aurora? it kind of ruins it.

  • @DaliU2beDude It is not, it is the Weather Paparazzi logo to stop people from bootlegging the footage on TV.

  • My sister lives in North Dakota, and she sees them sometime. I was surprised to know they're visible that far south. I would kill to see them before I die!

  • yeah... they look more vibrant on pictures. but then i would still look forward to see something like this! sooner, i guess... :)

  • BEAUTIFUL !

  • They dont look as vibrant as the do in pictures i have seen but id LOVEEEE to see these befor i die! itd be amazing to get married under them or something!!

  • i saw them when i went to iceland with school, one of the most amazing things iv ever seen

  • Did you capture a meteor at 3:14 and cut it?

  • Your right i see a meteor!

  • so fucking cool

  • After reading so many people have never seen this in person I feel lucky to have. Too bad I didn't have my camera. It all happened so quick. I looked up saw ran to my room, came back out and it was done.

  • Man! I'd love to see that in person!

  • i had no idea that strange opaque glyphs were part of this amazing light show. i would really like to visit them some day.

  • does anyone know what causes them?

  • it's caused by the solar radiation caught by the earths magnetic field appearing as a light show. you can see it is because the "place" where the lights show is near the pole where the magnetic field is closest or where it actually is from. (i don't know if i'm right though.)

  • its the earths stop harmfully radiation

  • I wish i could see these some day.

  • me too! its on my bucket list!

  • mine too!

  • i dont even know wat a bucket list is! but if i did, these would be on it!

  • its a list of things to do before you die! hahah

  • On my travelling list.

  • lucky you to have witnessed such wonderful scene....unfortunate for me, bcoz we don't have this.. :(

  • it depends on how near you are at the poles

  • that was so pretty i saw the northern lightsonce when i was a really little kid and i watched them before i went to bed and i think they are just beatiful ... sadly i will probably never see them again :(

  • Just saw these fuckers, like couple hours ago <3. I live in northern Finland so quite common here. But everytime just takes my breath

  • I SAW THAT! IT WAS AWESOME

  • WOW this is amazing!!!!! i seen the northern lights in finland and let me tell you i seen every bloody colour you could think of it will be an expierience i will never forget as long as i live :)

  • Im going to Levi in Finland tomo and im prayin that i get a chance to see them It looks like the most amazin natural wonder ever!!

  • Its so beautiful to watch and so calming. They almost look like great serpents of light writhing through the sky. Amazing footage, thanks for sharing it with us ;3

  • lovely footage

  • It looked great, but would have been better without the symbols in the background

  • wow that is amazing!! but i would like it better if it wasnt so long!!! but it is still awsome how the sky can actually do that tho!!!

  • This video may not be as eye-popping spectacular as the others but it is still an awesome display of God's creation. 5 Stars.

  • cool video;)

  • The sound: Porno pictures taken

  • amazing

  • Y'know... this is something I've always wanted to see for myself. First hand. I'm not usually sappy or anything... but I think I would just immediately cry at the first site of this amazing thing.

  • your suspicions are well founded!!!

i have seen one or two great aurora displays a little north of boston and there is something sooooo awesome that i could well imagine that you might cry!!!

  • I moved to alaska in the summer time and I was thinking the exact same thing! I'm not a sap either but I think it would bring a tear to my eye lol. Cant wait for winter

  • GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! are we quadruplets ??? hahaha

  • beautiful! superb video thanks for posting.

  • gorgeous...i hope someday i will see one...

  • where is this? canada? norway?

  • Minnesota.

  • @bnvn1 When I was in Winnipeg, I saw about the same thing.

  • Minnesota, says so right in the author's comment

  • do they really move around that fast or is this a timelapse video?

  • I thought the same thing until I saw all the stars in the video. If it was a timelapse the stars would be moving across the sky, but they stay in place, which must mean they really move like that. Awesome.

  • They do move that fast. It really is just a breath taker. I can take 5-10mins and it looks like just a dim cloud of green colours and suddenly... The dance, just amazing.

And it's so hard to see "the dance" since it really lasts like 1-5mins and then you have to wait over another dim session and hope that there will come anotehr dance moment,

  • do they move fast? i thought every one put special effects on?

  • I was watching the Auroras this night in Cedar Rapids, IA. Simply, it was the most amazing spectacle I've ever seen.

  • Sweet. I saw them in Finland this year for the first and only time. It was only for about 5 minutes but it was so clear and crisp and just so weird! Nothing can prepare you for how amazing they are. Everyone was in silence just looking up!

  • that was sick but did anyone see a few circles on the screen???

  • The circles you see I think, are the small logos that are placed in the left... It's because of copyright or whatsover, but anyway...

What a great thing to see.

  • lol i saw them theyre the icons from the lower left side of the screen

  • UFOs.

  • This is just: astounding, beautiful...

  • before i die i have to go and see the northern lights it would be such a great experience

  • my nephew was born on this night

  • Oh man, I've only seen the northern lights once in Minnesota. It was really cool! :D

  • how does this happen????

  • I wouldn't mind seeing this in Cali!

For those who see this often...I seriously envy you D:

  • i was standing in a field in ottertail minnesota when this went down...it was the most amazing northern lights display i have seen in my life

  • oh my God.. b e a u t i f u l .

  • where and when is the best time to see these?

  • In northern latitudes during the winter....they were almost a nightly occurrence in AK.

  • k thanks

  • This is what I was looking for an actual video, Thanks.

  • Thank you, that was brilliant! I'd sifted through so many photographic collections on YouTube looking for an actual video - yours was the first I've come across. It really gave me the feeling of being there!

  • what part of the year does this take place?

  • Simply awesome, 10/10

  • Pretty neat. 2004 was a good year for Auroras even down here in Indiana. It may not be impressive by Arctic standards, but its decent for the continental US.

  • this isn't very massive.. in fact... it's quite a weak display.... still cool though eh?

  • Has anyone ever been stationed in Alaska while in the air force & flown into the northern lights? My uncle did when he was in the air force up there. He said it was so mesmerizing that he & his co pilot had to take turns looking while the other controlled the plane. What an experience that would be!

  • I can assure you that witnessing an energetic display will be a trancendent experience. I urge everyone that can to try.

    Fairbanks Ak, fall.

  • ive been wondering where 2 see these. i live in southeast new hampshire so i cant see them 8(

  • They can be seen almost anywhere depending on the "weather" on the sun. The sun has been unusually quiescent lately which is not good for lower latitudes.

I have in fact seen them weakly in Bostaon and saw a pretty good display some years ago in Franconia Notch. Also in Quebec.

UA Fairbanks and NASA maintain some space weather sites and do provide alerts, if you wish, for more energetic displays. But, as with terrestrial weather predictions, they are not always accurate.

  • k thanks

  • The earth and the universe are incredibly beautiful. It never ceases to amaze me.

  • Oh wow do they really move like that?

  • Yes, but it's been years since there was a good solar storm. No sun spots, no solar storms and now this may be the dawn of the next ice age and global cooling. It's May in Minnesota and there is still ice on some of the lakes north of Minneapolis.

  • @bnvn1 haha, where's the global warming? lol

  • at 2:15 and 2:25 there is a face figure

  • Damn, your right. I never noticed that before.

  • hehehe...its cool,,

  • sigh* i live in asia..... is it possible for us to see? sigh*...

  • maybe if a big event hits the earth but that is pretty rare. You have to go north to see them.

  • one thing i have always wondered, is this in real time? how quickly do the lights dance?

  • the lights travel the same time as you see in this video

  • They really move that fast? Wow. Before I die I will go and see the aurorae.

  • the gods are playing with glow sticks! maybe there's a concert up there

  • i think it is writing something

  • That would be really cool.

  • Fantastic. I've shot a lot of stills, and one video, but you were able to capture the speed of the light's movement, which I think is one of the most amazing parts of the Northern Lights. Thanx for sharing.

  • Thanks for posting the video! I'm glad you got to see it! Occasionally, they are visible here (central Pa) in winter, but nothing like what this display.

  • this kinda reminds me of the video game Paper Mario for N64 its from 2001 in the last level in the snowy wilderness theres purple auroas :P

  • northern lights are the shit on mushrooms

  • I stood outside watching this very display above Wisconsin where I live! It was very beautiful and the whole sky was covered! They say at times you can hear them with your ears if the display is strong enough!

  • Kool!;o)

  • holy fuck, the 4 UFOS on bottem left were on the video the whole time? holy man.

  • is this video sped up?

  • what are those faint circles in the center

  • licienses.. or what ever you spell it

  • cities in alternate universes

  • If I had a "bucket list" this would be on the top!!!

  • wow. its a little bit scary cause ive never seen this before in reality.

  • OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

its soo WOW! like i cant believe that is actually real!!! holyy motherrrrff*********r hahha

  • if a person were to run into the general area where the lights are would they be infected with radiation and possible die?

because it's sun particles colliding with the earth's atmosphere going wild

could someone answer my question plz?? :D

  • No because they hit the earths magnetic field and light up in the upper atmospher. Your about a million times more likely to get skin cancer from laying out in the sun too much.

  • wow! thanks!

    :D

so I CAN run around in the pretty lights!

    horraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

  • lol go for it i guess

  • umm Id pay $50 for a nice clear video shot that does not shake.

I can Itunes gift a person $50 if they email me a super clear video of this to my gmail account of same name.

  • i live in northern canada and can see the northern lights often, but they are alwyas beautiful and have many legends

  • envy rushes through me lol, its like brother bear they're so beautiful, i really want to go and see them, you lucky sods who ever filmed this :P

  • I think i saw something like this last night on the a1 near doncaster england, is it possible? at first i thought it was a search light beam appearing through broken clouds, but it went on for miles

  • it might have because, at times (but rarely), the northern lights can be seen at a large distance away.

  • inner sun..... located at the center of the earth... its lights escaping through the north and south pole holes!

    Peace

  • Wow.

    Is this in real time?

I had no idea they moved so fast.

  • Where do you live? I want to know how north I have to go to see this beauty espectacle.

  • This was shot up by Hinkley MN.

  • I know this is a bit late, but the best place to see them is above the 60th parallel.

  • im stuck in mass and i can barely see the stars

  • i want to see this with my loved ones...... please god...

  • I will go there and watch those lights in pure awe and silence someday...

  • I can't really see it cleary, but it looks beautiful...I wish I could witness it at least once..

  • Words cannot describe...

  • I m from north Finland here those can see more that sun on wintertime :)

And well yeah that is massive if it last that long, but what more north going more they usualy got light. Have seen much better myself. They are very cool ones, make this place worth of living. Maybe camera cant get enought light. City lights make them looks bad, on camera.

  • THATS COOL I WISH I COULD SEE THAT

  • WOW DO THEY REALY MOVE LIKE THAT

  • really hope to c dis in my country. =(

  • I stood outside for 5 hours here in northwest Wisconsin watching these that night.Much better in person.

  • I think the watermark is a reflection off his window.. and as far south as they go.. ive sen them faintly from a suburb of toronto, and seen them pretty clear from muskoka (hourish north of toronto)

  • dude, the watermark logo is really ugly...

  • Dude, to bad because seeing my work ripped off is really ugly to my wallet.

  • lmao. good call

  • This is my ultimate goal.. to see at least once in my life time...

  • oh yeah...surely worth seeing atleast once n capturing it on camera in person...shall be wonderful to click

  • wow look at all the plasma

  • actually, its not plasma but special particals from the sun that have collided with the earth's atmosphere particles to form beautiful and amazing lights.

  • sweet I hope someday I can see them.

  • charged particles = electrons and protons, both stripped from binding to each other so its hydrogen plasma, not electron-proton atomic hydrogen. some heavier elements may be in it at times from coronal mass ejections but mostly just single protons and free electrons.

  • did you really have to go into details...

  • How far south can the northern lights be seen?

  • i think it goes as far as the arctic circle. but i am not sure!

  • Not uncommon to see them as far south as Virginia. I was fortunate enough to see a rare occurrence in north Florida back in the late 80s.

  • its beautiful

  • amazing!!!

  • did anyone else see that star moving really fast downwards at 3:15? unless this thing was time lapsed but none of the other stars moved..

  • thats called a satellite, or a shooting star

  • which are, naturally, different things

  • awesome all the way.

  • free fireworks

  • im sorry im so dumb but whats a solar storm?

  • I wish I could see them from Michigan.

  • of course you can see the northern lights from michigan-from the upper peninsula or further west in duluth.

  • I live in the southern part near Ohio.

  • it looks like the cover of harry potter 6

  • breathtaking

  • awesome

  • very nice, also on my birthday!

  • Was this all in real-time motion? and is this what you see with your eyes also? Because I plan on going soon and I don't want to be disappointed

  • im from sweden .. and i can tell you that yes this is what you see ..(well.. sept for those wierd transparent logos in the middle) and sometimes even brighter depends on where you are.. and witch time of year i think. its not speeded up or anyting, you wont be disappointed ..

  • i seen the shooting star at 3:14 i must make a wish

  • Hi. Sorry if you've posted this info already, but what camera were you using (esp the LUX rating if you know it and lens type (e.g. 24mm etc). Thanks in advance.

  • Can't tell ya what kind of camera I was using because then everyone will go out and shoot the video and I won't be able to sell any footage :-)

  • Dohhhh!

  • loving that sound of the canon camera in the background.. nice vid

  • there gorgeous!!! i wanna see them 4 myself !!!

  • Also, when I shot this video it was NOT that cold out pboscophoto. There is a faint logo over the center to prevent people from using the footage without buying a license.

  • did u notice the shootin star at 3:14-16? i cant w8 2 go live in alaska!

  • damn id shure travel just the see it 1 time.

  • Solar winds...superb!

  • You shot this through a window!

Idiot!! Something so incredible (and rare), and you can't step outside and show the breadth of this?

Are you that stupid? Or just an incredible wimp because it might have been a little cold?
