  • STABS= stupid TA bastards

  • I'da pulled that fucking 1960s pisspot shit heap out with my teeth, slapped all the those TA wombles with my wang'er, shagged that bird telling everyone what to do up the arse, flown to Afghanistan, shanked Osama Bin Foden and his cronies with nothing more than a swissarmyknife and been home for tea.

    Amateurs.

  • God I have never seen such half assed buffoonery, still it serves as a perfect example of how not to do things!

  • makes a good training aid to point out the wrongs/rights abit like a hazard perception test on a civvy driving test i suppose hope somebody learns and nobody gets hurt or dies????

  • Comment removed

  • im sure all you 'regs' saying how they are doing it wrong, probably did the same when you were at borden. dont forget these boys and girls learn in their spare time. as for the saftey... well thats down to the ds, who will be either regular or ex regular instructors os (shudders) civvies. when i joined up (ahem) years ago, there was none of this health and safety sh0ite..... you red-arses need cuddling all day.

  • ps. i am seeing out the rest of my 22 in the TA as a rechmech, and start my trade training in the autumn. i hope the ds are more supportive than you clowns have been to these boys and girls effort (they look like they are working damn hard too) which is all the army asks. i can learn to rechmech. will you learn to soldier.

best of luck tho, boys and girls (great to see a non gender specific rechmech too!)

  • so celk

  • Can't belive someone dared to post this, this is not professional REME recovery. the crew commander wants a good kicking how can he put the winch op in danger by having him inside the danger area on the 1:1 indirect? basics lads basics, get a grip before the rope gets a grip of you.

  • I posted, I'm not REME and have never claimed to be, they came up to our site and did us a favour by recovering our stranded 432, I happened to film it and post the days events here.

    Don't shoot the messenger!

  • slapshot05, If they've done you such a good favor, why are you leaving this video on for so long, making them look bad??

  • How do I make them look bad?

If they look bad then it is a result of their own actions surely.

They are TA for goodness sake, of course they're not the absolute best but they did work DAMN HARD, forgive them their mistakes and let them move on, this video will serve as a reminder and help them improve surely!

  • well if thats the way you repay favors then i don't think you should get any more!

  • I'm very sorry that you seem to have some problem with what I may or may not have done.

Please read through the comments and you'll see i'm pretty much the only person defending what these guys did.

Are you a person whom believes that the only things we see are the things that suit us best and that under NOOO circumstances should anyone be allowed to see failures and shortcomings?

Well I'm very sorry to inform you that this is free speech, 25000 people wanted to see this video so it's staying

  • show me a 25t strop. didnt see any in the vid. And its a winch rope not a cable.

  • Up the AV Techs!

  • im sorry but this made you all look stupid! as a reckymec i was in stitches of laughter, this is how not to do it, did anybody even attempt an E.P. i dont think so,as for the foden driver well wheelspin does not equal traction, all in all a good video showing how not to do it, good job it was not front line under fire, ground anchor was a joke just watching i could see what was going to happen, good job we have some real r.e.m.e recovery boys out thair

  • lol i saw a pic on a website the other day of a CRARV being recovered by a chally2 it craked me up

  • i bet it did ha ha ha forward the link to me i could do with a laugh!!!!!

honestly if my crew performed like that i would have been kicking some serious butt, and as for calling in civvies with a mini diger they need to be shot at dawn,,,publicly lol

  • recky mechs cant fight, VM A's are hard as nails

  • Can't spell tank but they can lift them!

  • i recognise one of them foden as the one i used to drive in 124 rec coy

  • Am I the only one to notice the King's crown on the REME cap badge at the end?

  • Please clarify!

I am not of a military background, have i made a mistake?

  • The King's Crown has convex arms on the top and a Queen's Crown has concave arms.

  • Im gonna go in the REME xD

Whats the song please ? Oasis are brilliant but I dont beleive I know this one

  • Stand by me

  • OK Thanks

  • I dont think any one is qualified to comment unless they were actually on the job! my daughter was part of this team and yes, there may have been mistakes but they were trying to deal with a shit load of obstacles that got in the way of recovering the vehicle, and in a limited space of time.

  • Agreed!

Please let's not forget one crucial thing, this was a training exercise, the guys were told to make their own POA and figure it out for themselves so they could learn from their mistakes.

As I've mentioned before, whatever mistakes were made, at no time was safety ever compromised.

  • Female Reccy Mech? What good will she be in a NAAFI brawl?

  • Why not in this day and age, At almost six foot, an ex welsh swimmer, I think you might find some of the NAAFI would be proud to 'brawl' along side her!!I might add she was best student in her hard pull training.

  • I'm only joking my friend I totally agree with you. I have seen plenty of male reccy mechs in the 5' 4" / 9 stone dept. After all, thats what a winch and a 3:1 pull is all about, mechanical advantage. Good luck top her! :)

  • Ex RE 24133856.

  • RE`s would have done it differnt to that!!!

  • I am an ex Army driver and now work heavy recovery. These tree hugging Health and Safety enthusiasts and'armchair experts'are making comments on a subject they know NOTHING about. OK, standing near a tensioned winch rope is viewed as dodgy, but how would they learn if they were all 10 miles away? If the equiptment is well maintained and rated for the job, why would it break? By the way, I pull all kinds of vehicles out of all kinds of ditches EVERY DAY not just exercises and deployments.

  • get over yourselves. yes there's a bit wrong with this, but you have to admire thier ingenuity and grit. one of the motto's of an army who has limited resources: adapt improvise and overcome. i'd stand next to that cable all day long!

  • Stupid chods.. theres no way i'd be near them cables... anyway.....Arte et marte

  • Thank you very much.

This brought back so many fucking good memories.

  • I am part of the EME branch in the CF and have been on enough recovery's to see there was some serious mistakes here. These are things that could make you instantly fail your 5's recovery course. I know the Britt's don't do everything we do the same way and thats fine, but some serious issues were presented here. These boys should be more careful.

  • they were in training let them be they got the task done in the end

  • You're right, and I'm sorry for the holier than thou kinda comment. It's still an awsome vid, with the finest bunch of people the army has to offer.

Arte et Marte Boys! See you in the Stan!

  • VERY dumb soldiers! standing right in the way of the pulling cable! I saw at least 3 soldiers that would be SERIOUSLY injured or killed if that cable or any anchor point were to fail. Where were they the day they should ahve learned saftey, or at least common sense?

  • I would have to disagree, the engineers were constantly aware of safety and avoiding standing within or too close to the apex (the danger point should something fail), indeed when a 25 tonne strop did fail (loud and scary) Not one person was even within 25 feet of injury.

  • Actually dude, davesqmc4u is right. You never stand on the inside of the angle on an indirect pull. With that 14 tonne APC on the end of that cable, if the ground spikes gave way or if the strap broke that 40kg snatch block is gunna fly a long way. Like a big slingshot. Couple that with the cable with that kind of distance, those boys could be killed very easily. Their legs would be a pink mist. Check it out at 4:30ish.

  • thats either sennalager or warminster who throws a track on a 432 itsnear on impossible well done the beme

  • It's neither, it is an adventure sports company on Anglesey (North Wales)

The tracks on this particular 432 have pretty much had their day, they are rather easy to knock off now.

Yes, well done REME for a sterling job.

  • i would not like to be close if one of the cables broke!

  • just wondering, looked like the 43 was either in gear or had brakes pulled back. would it not have been an easier recovery if in neutral, brakes off. Anyway, word to the wise from someone non reme, always stay on the good side of your rechymech, chances are you will need him one day.

  • She had thrown the LH track and it got fully wedged against the hull to the inside of the front sprocket!

It had sat in that pit of clay and water for some 4 months so everything was thoroughly stuck fast.

Agreed on the 'keeping the REME on side' though!

  • the track had fallen off the LH rear idler thats why the LH track was locked. and thats from a VM(A). mind you, i was a CRARRV Comd for 6 yrs, none of this fluffy hook business

  • Sorry to disappoint, the track had not come off the rear idler, it was the forward drive sprocket that had thrown the track

  • i can assure you the LH track was off the rear idler, look at 3:50. it does look as if its off the LHF sprocket too tho

  • REME's moto........"Arte Et Marte"......Twist To Open, all ex and present REME will kmow what I mean!! LOL

  • good vid, brings back memories

  • i can assure you they did not fail at all

Any way donkey knob, Laters.

  • the trees were a big problem, the root plates were incredibly shallow less than 12 inches, as a consequence on more than one accasion the trees were uprooted, the land owner was present so care had to be taken, as for the bed similar reason for failure, the ground simply wasn't up to the job.

  • I served in 119 Recovery Company for 9 years. Still miss gettin out there doin stuff like that. Cpl Walker reccy mech class 1.
