@billmacaulay -- I don't know if this is correct, Bill, but I am usually bowing "as I feel it". I don't know if what I am doing is "traditional" or not..... but that is what I have been doing.
I have taken some lessons from James Kelly, and he often had different bowings... He might answer this differently.
I've been learning violin for about 18 months now and love this tune. Great to hear it as it should sound. My versions quite a bit slower but I'll get there.
Well, now you have yet another fellow fiddler named Bill who just happens to be working on this song today....much, much slower than yours. lol You've got it down pretty well. I like it. I just learned the notes today...speed tomorrow. Yup. I am working from the Kevin Burke DVD.
Hi Bill! How's Saddle the Pony coming along? I just got back from Scottish fiddle school for 2 weeks down in North Carolina. I have Kevin Burke's DVD... good stuff there.
Well, hi! You are up early! Ah.... north bay! Love it! I'm about ready to get out my fiddle and have some fun! Thanks for stopping by.... I love your creativity very much!
I love these jigs..this one sounds Irish, right? I have lots of very old fiddle music books from nearly 150 years ago around here some place I'll bet that one is in it!
Well, there was another version I played that was a bit smoother... I meant to post that one, not this one.... I was feeling smug 'cause I was posting a response to my Scottish fiddle buddy, Bill who posted Saddle the Pony. We were both posting these for our friend Jim over in N. Ireland who has been helping us learn it. lol....
Brinn!! Such a great way to start my day...by listening to you play. I made a video of me playing my Native American Flute...but cannot get the darn video to upload!!
This is a classic piece for the fiddle and one that I have danced to often. Very good indeed I could almost hear the rest of the band coming in just as you finished.
Hi and thank you, Chris. I was just on Skype with "fiddle4u" who was showing me how to put in some of the neat Irish ornaments.... Now I've got to get those down so I can add them in. :-)
Well, jim... it is very much a plain Jane version.... you do all the really cool little Irish thingies that make it sound very cool! I need to learn how you do that jiggly bow thing..... I just sound like I got a muscle cramp when I try to do it! lol...
Wonderful Brinn. But I'm dead envious!! I am practising this tune also (thanks to Jim's tuition!) but you got threre before me! LOL Now I'll be nervous of posting it!
Oh honestly, Terry! You play very beautifully. I think it would be really fun to have a bunch of the Saddle the Pony videos posted here... thanks to our buddy Jim! Did you see where I said that I had to redo it 6- 8 times?? I kept goofing up! Ok... I dare you to post Saddle the Pony Terry(pretty please :-) ).....
Thanks for posting this video. Was a great help to the kids when they were learning the tune. Keep up the good work!! :)

Dont think I saw this. Just found it. That sound like youre
on the right track. On the jigs Im never sure when to bow and
when to slur. Is there a rule? or just as you feel it.
