Forget about price, what matters is the actual energy gain. For every one barrel of oil you burn in Iraq to find and drill oil, you get around 50 barrels out of the ground. Oil shale is far worse, it returns only around 4 barrels. The net energy available to the economy is much lower. No matter how hard we work, the output will be less. So then, why do you think we're in iraq? To 'fight terrorism'? Or because thats the only place left to get a 5000% return on energy.

@Jacobrester - no matter how the technology advances, the fact is- oil shale is not useable as it sits in the ground. We have to process it heavily to extract the oil. That means we have to expend more energy to get the energy. That won't ever change no matter how much 'technology' we use. So yes the oil is there, but it doesnt do us as much good as the good old light sweet crude.

Oil is CURRENTLY abundant. Oil is more expensive to claim because it's harder to reach and the "US DOLLAR" is worth about 40% less than it was in 2000.

The truth is that a lot of the US dollar's value is directly tied to it's use in the TRADE OF OIL.

That's a big reason why the Iraq war was started, why we are aggressive with Iran and why we're pumping trillions to banks.
