I love fishing. I love boats. I am a towbat skipper on the river and I build wooden boats for fun. Hoping the snapper fishing will be good once te red tide passes. Looking fwd to next year.
I understand that you have to feed your families and you are out there breaking your back and that you probably have been doing this type of work for generations, but I have been offshore fishing "recreationaly" for 25 yrs and the reason I'm told why we cant keep but 2 snaps is because the commercial catch gets the lionshare of the quota.. plus we get less than 60 days before the nmfs close the season.. factor in horrible weather and you might get in 3 trips at 3.65 gal gas .. UNSUSTAINABLE !!
dumb ass! recreational fisherman catch more snapper a year then commercial fisherman go to NOAA and check the stats, its not just about what u get to catch with your little fishing pole, its about the country
we caught 1,400 pounds in a few hours on the 1st spot we stopped on last year. So far this year I have only been recreational fishing in the gulf and EVERY reef is COVERED with snapper from the bottom to 10 feet below the surface in 100 feet of water.
This is a great video, I did a speech on hunting vs commercial meat in my college public speaking class last year for my senior year of high school. This video is amazing.
from a old fisherman that yearns to be able to fish again and has seen his better days - I would like to say Thanks and let you know that your videos are appreciated . sometimes I can almost feel the wind in my face smell the salt air. only another fisherman knows how cruel this life really is . Thanks Again
@scottberryman50 Sorry !!!! my post doesn't sound right ----- I was refering to how cruel on the human body the backbreaking work of commercial fishing really is .
Gosh on the Bama coast Red Snapper are taking over everything. the Triggers have vanished along with many other snapper species. when we catch illegel ones we just throw them to dolphins
thank you for the stand-up bit, very funny kind of pertains to the video subject. the cca stinks,i used to have a nice job at a fish house that had to shut down because the fisherman kept getting fined over petty issues.
I'm casting for a new reality show that is similar to "Deadliest Catch". If you're a commercial fishermen that works in a dangerous/hazardous environment please email me ASAP.
Hey Allen I am a commercial fisherman in fl. and I really appreciate this video. It reminds me of when I had access to a class A permit in freshwater La. I have been working on a our problems on a personal level for 17 years now.I belive I have found a way for you and I and a few select others to keep doing what we have always done.Contact me. Brad 850-624-0010
i think that the red snapper population theory is bullcrap, and there aint no shortage in them.theres enough red snapper alone to feed the world for 2days.
For the year we have about 3500lb we cauth 2000 in 4 hours we as commercial fishermen are being screwed by our government There is no shotage of any fish. The big charter boats that have over 20 people per trip and some time 2 trips a day are killing greater pounds of fish than any commercial fishing there is only a few 100 of us and thousands or millions of you guys we are only a drop in an bucket
What kind of rig is that? I am guessing those are about 0/6 jap (circle) hooks spaced about 12 inches apart with 9 inch leaders for each, and about 10 hooks in all? If that's correct, do you just come off the bottom about 3 turns and let them hook themselves?
wow, I wish I could catch something other than a throwback size redsnapper.....seems everywhere I fish, that is just about all we seem to catch, with occasional keepers......
I am glad to see you post a commercial video. I have been argueing with the SAFMC on the East cost about the same thing. They are shutting us down one species at a time.
awesome! thats a shitload of snapper...and for those who see this as a problem...everybody's gotta eat and feed their families...this is their livelyhood...u dont like it, dont eat fish!
@xxXtuchitXxx Completly with you man. The only thing i have a problem with is finning, cause they just throw the rest of the shark back. It's a waste, but if they start using them, then i'm cool with it
