I moved fast and got a job. It pays 8 dollars an hour and does not give you any holidays off except christmas day. It gives me five days of vacation per year on top of that! Whatever the reasons were for the layoff are really irrelevent now. The thing is what to do now? If a person is getting unemployment then it can buy them a little time to explore what assets they do have that can be turned into an occupation. The upside is that you'll never fire yourself. And you'll win or lose on your own ability. I would never go back to working for somebody else. I haven't done that for 30 years now. The peace of mind I get is worth it.
This is probably the first time I've found Limbaugh actually made some sense. I never would have thought it possible. There is no doubt in my mind that if you can do something that you love doing, that you're going to be good at it. It requires an entrepenurial attitude which not everyone has. However, if you have a talent for something wouldn't it be better to use some creativity to find a way to have that talent serve you? Mr. Limbaugh has not addressed the problem of those of us who are "content to live on extended unemployment benefits" who were laid off because our greedy corporate employers moved our jobs to China. Trust me, we WANT to work but your "very smart people" won't even talk to us if we have been out of work for over a week or so.

there is no substitute for a work ethic. some people will find work more likely if they really want to work...there is work maybe not what you are used to making, but at least you can get something until things improve. cut back on going out, eat less, exercise more, learn to use the library, shop for books at the salvation army, learn to eat less expensive food, look at the rest of the world and look at the greatest generation.they survived the depression and the war...they had way less...

I moved fast and got a job. It pays 8 dollars an hour and does not give you any holidays off except christmas day. It gives me five days of vacation per year on top of that! My wife says she’s ‘disappointed’ that I’ve cancelled her brother’s invitation to our daughter’s wedding next month.
Thing is, he was made redundant last month. I wish him all the best for the future, but in his present state I don’t want him around. Guys like that tend to spread their own failure, & I DON’T want him infecting our family with his sorry-ass hard luck stories.

I like how you start the story at 20 years ago when Rush made it big, as though nothing took place before the last 20 years. @NYerintransit Early in his career Rush was unemployed a number of times. It was only when he managed to get hired in Sacramento that his career then took off. Before then he was going from one mediocre job to another and spending a fair amount of time unemployed in between.

After being laid off and unsuccesfull search for work for 12 months I have decided to pursue career in IT- programming. this is my true passion and I' m actually going to college at almost 40 years:) I know I lll be successful. Whatever the reasons were for the layoff are really irrelevent now. The thing is what to do now? If a person is getting unemployment then it can buy them a little time to explore what assets they do have that can be turned into an occupation. The upside is that you'll never fire yourself. And you'll win or lose on your own ability. I would never go back to working for somebody else. I haven't done that for 30 years now. The peace of mind I get is worth it.

This is probably the first time I've found Limbaugh actually made some sense. I never would have thought it possible. There is no doubt in my mind that if you can do something that you love doing, that you're going to be good at it. It requires an entrepenurial attitude which not everyone has. However, if you have a talent for something wouldn't it be better to use some creativity to find a way to have that talent serve you? An opportunity does exist to change your life and take control of it.

We need Obama to be a modern day Franklin Delano Roosevelt to get in there to help our country get back on our feet. People who are fired/laid off by and large are so because the workforces are trying to move to PT and Temporary jobs to replace the FT jobs they let go. It's called they want cheaper labor w/out the requirement to pay for benefits. Crazy about the job or not, when there aren't any jobs out there especially that pay the bills ~ where exactly are we to find a job we love you speak of? Sadly, most of these people will be thinking of their dream job from the 'comfort' of the street.

never wanted to work past quitting time, to finish a job, and put out poor quality work, were the first ones, that were laid off, the company has no intention of ever calling them back. Because these workers did not protect their job, by making themselves a asset to the company. Yes, they were fired.

@federalwarhawk I worked a min 60 hours a week and did not take a sick day in the entire 9 years I worked for the company that laid me off. I won awards for my work and always got full raises. In fact, I was the only one promoted in my department. I was making more money than my peers. Why do you think that I was chosen to be one of the laid off?
