He will be guarding guys on the 3pt line this is the NBA you don't just get planted in the post for a while game. Stephan may look like a stiff but is not he's a 6"9 guy who can play the 3, 4, or 5 and has crossed off the dribble and dunks on so many guys.

Also, Dwayne Casey isn't going to switch Jonas onto Lebron James off the pick & roll. Casey's defensive system just won the Mavs a ship, he's got a lil more sense than Mike D'antoni's retarded defensive scheme's.

PF and C's in the NBA, like Gasol, Howard, Griffin, players that he'll have to guard on a day to day basis, even Bargnani, are faster than Jankovic is, and his movement, anywhere, not just the 3 point line, will get him beat. He leads the U19's in blocked shots, wait till he reaches the NBA,

@hobbledehoyification sure he has all the potential in the world, Bargnani was a beast in Europe too, not seeing the same success in the NBA in his first 5 years. Raptors need players that can produce now, otherwise they'll be caught in a constant chain of rebuilding like they have been for the last few years, whether it's rebuilding around Bosh, without Carter, or without any prominent superstar.

@hobbledehoyification well I never denied his potential, but he clearly has work to do, and for the Raptors right now, they need someone like a Blake Griffin, that can bring the franchise back up. There have been too many years for them without success. That's why you select a player that is developed enough to contend, to sell it to the superstars to make them come to Toronto. All these undeveloped players won't win games, and therefore won't get superstars, I hope you can at least understand

@kobe24bryant08 you have to realize that things are more complicated than that and I hope you really don't feel that way. we have a lot of cap space so getting players isn't the problem, its getting the right one. i would actually like to be horrible this year again for next year's draft w/c is some people say as good as 2003. no legit superstar would want to play in T.O at his prime unless your a contender w/c won't happen overnight because we only have half the payroll compared to other teams.

I completely agree with you on the fact that being bad next year wouldn't hurt us in the long run because of the strong draft class coming in, so I guess we can both agree on the fact that there is promise for the Raptors in the coming years. Our payroll is as huge problem, because like any other business, you require money to be successful, but we'll see.

@kobe24bryant08 I admit, Bargnani is not beasting in the NBA but he is a serviceable albeit statistically inefficient scorer. How many players in NBA history have avg. over 20ppg in 1 season? I obviously have no idea but it is very small in comparison to the # of players that have come & gone. Raptors don't need players that can produce now, we need to go for the best potential talent. We are trying to win a ship. it's either BOOM or bust for us.

@gwrighter You are right about the inefficient scoring, but don't forget his deficiency on defense either, he can't guard his matchups on a night to night basis. Sure he can score 20ppg, but just that alone is not what you expect from a #1 pick, I'm sure you'd agree. They need a combo of both young players and veterans, the ones with potential need a guide, and in order to win a ship, we need superstars, just raw potential alone without results won't sell it to the free agents.Boom or bust it is

@kobe24bryant08 Barg's deficiencies on defence have been well documented. We just signed the defensive coordinator for the NBA championship team. We have a budding star(Derozan), We have money to spend, we have the sickest GM in the NBA, The Raptors are showing potential. Realistically, what more do we need to attract FA's?

we could also acquire Vet's through trades. I guarantee u this, either Bargs or Davis is getting traded.

@gwrighter Well those can all be true, and even if so, the Raptors haven't done too well spending their money in the past few years, with many failing acquisitions (O'Neal, Turkoglu), so although we have the money, hopefully Colangelo can use it more effectively this time around. Bargnani, even if we hired a defensive coordinator, would have to show results to convince anyone to come, because after 5 years, you have to have more than just potential.

O'Neal was acquired through a trade no? But yeah Turkoglu was a failed acquisition. in hindsight it wasn't a good situation & it was more of a desperate attempt at keeping Bosh in the interest of the ownership group. I like how Colangelo is building the team now, & i trust his executive decisions.
