  • @gunplay568

    The Mellow Mood album

  • @gunplay568 ,they did do a version from the Mellow Mood album, but this alternate version that they did here is from the Emperors of Soul boxset on disc 2

  • Damn that's a deep voice

  • Mr. Melvin Franklin was made to sing this song, he is one of the best bass singers i've ever heard.

  • They totally ruined this song.

  • @POPWEE13 ,how did they ruin this song?

  • @Tunes342 Hes an idiot. This song is meant for a bass and who better to sing it than the greatest bass ever. This is the best rendition of the song that I have heard.

  • the description totally makes me wish i met him :')

  • The greatsest bass ever. Barnone

  • he looks like martin lawrence @2:07

  • 4:23 and 4:30 are EXCELLENT

  • THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST AMERICAN BASS VOICES OF ALL TIME. I HAVE SUNG THE WORLD IN OPERA...AND MELVIN FRANKLIN WAS MY EARLIEST EXPOSURE TO THE GREAT BEAUTY OF A FINE BASS VOICE...

THANK GOD FOR THE TEMPTATIONS AND THIER ANCHOR ....FRANKLIN

  • Love this one, always have....Thanks for posting these wonderful tunes from this wonderful group, just beautiful!!! Love you and Miss you Melvin!!!!

  • i like in that first picture how david ruffin is the odd one out. lol he loks like he's mad and not wanting to work with the others....i guess the movie was true lol

  • the Best!

  • my mother met melvin, she imitates his deep voice as he let her backstage "come on back here lil girl"

  • i love the opening music. so smooth and calming

  • I like the live version better.......The noisy dinner theatre, they start, then all of a sudden, THE VOICE!

  • stevie once said that melvin franklin was born with that wonderful bass voice.

  • zolow95 that would make you 14-15 correct? congratulations on listening to good music my friend, i know most kids your age are stuck in that terrible genre of radio rap/pop

  • Another great version and my all time favorite is from the temptations first live album.

To this day still miss you Mr Bass man.

    Your Spirit is still Strong.

  • THE SAM COOKE VERSION OUT DOES THEM ALL

  • @sdemi1284 i love sam cooke but his version is not even close to this. This song was built for a low and powerful voice and melvins was the lowest and most powerful of all of them. This is by far the best version ever made. Sam Cooke wasnt meant to sing this song like melvin was.

  • this dude sounds great no wonder he is the best bass singer ever. he died the year i was born 1995. R.I.P Melvin Franklin

  • yeah i love the paul robeson version most

  • I like this broadway/theratrical version to this song.

  • And let the people say, AMEN!!!!!

  • there no bass singer that can out do melvin

  • He was a great bass singer who will be greater miss and the group was great too

  • They're my group....but I mean Melvyn by the way....Steve

  • This man transcended!! Paul Robeson is great....but this man with his interpretation of this put this to the populace in such a way that it is unforgettable....Steve!

  • Melvin had a great Bass voice. This is a great old song! RIp!! Melvin, Paul, Eddie and David!!

  • The Temptations, the greatest vocal group EVER!

  • I too grew up in the 50's and 60's. This song was one of my Mom's favorites. But when my favorite Temp Melvin sang it it was like medicine for your soul. Man what a voice, and what a dancer. I miss that beautiful bass voice.

  • Melvin on lead, Paul says the words spoken, Ottis, Eddie and David on on the back with harmony. I cired today hearing this. The music of the Temps brings back so many, many happy memories. The sang you happy, they sang you sad and they sang you things that you had been through in your life. Thank you Temps for the love, the joy, the memories and for keeping real. Eddie, David, Paul and Melvin, rest in peace! Even today your loved and missed.

  • Actually they all take turns speaking with Otis talking first...

  • I grew up in the 50's and 60' with this music and it doesn't get any better than this! I have a vynl copy of The Temptations In A Mellow Mood with this song on it...incredible!! Those were the days...

  • What a beautiful song! Melvins one of my Bass Heroes and without a doubt one of the best basses EVER!

  • Oh absolutley, and goodness seemed to shine off him, he always had a reputation of being a really good guy, he's missed musically and personally by many, Thanks Bas35744

  • So true. I remember seeing the group perform live in 1988, when I was 17, and sadly, Melvin wasn't at that particular performance, because he was recovering from throat surgery. 7 years later, I learned that he died and I was shock and sad because I never had the opprotunity to see him peform live. I'm suprised that Motown didn't release "Life Is But A Dream" as a single being that was the last song he recorded with the group.

  • kk =)

  • i were looking every were 4 this song were eddie kendricks features in it .... eddie kendricks is in this isnt he

  • No, only in the speaking part at the start I believe, sorry buddy!

  • @joehancock01 The first "Here We All Work On The Mississippi" is Eddie Kendrick.

  • @joehancock01 ,only in the first verse and in the harmonies

  • what a voice that man had it was just incredible but when i first seen a temptations video i was wondering where deep voice came and i looked and there he was.you wouldnt expect a voice like that to come out of melvin

  • i know i have commented on this song before

    just love this song

many thanks for uploading this song

    TC

  • beautiful song

  • It surely is spot on with the vocal and instrumental arrangments

  • Melvin lived a few blocks from me in Detroit I played ball with his little brother Michael-man what a great bass voice-none like it anywhere-he harmonized with Eddie so well their voices were incredible-miss you guys

  • Wow! That is a fantastic story which I bet you'll always treasure, being that close to legends. What makes them all extra special is they seemed quite normal guys at heart. Thanks very much for the comment!

  • Thank you for such a great song! Melvin Franklin was such a great bass and one of my idols!!!

  • You're very welcome Bass35744! thanks for commenting and favouriting. I'm glad you appreciate Melvin like I do, he truly was a great.
