Ha! Did it all melt during afternoon? You know, if they started salting the roads to melt the snow, just like they do in Ontario, then your cars would start rusting and not last very long! People who have money, lease cars up here for 5 years, then get a new car to avoid problems. The average life for a car body to look unblemished up here is about 8 years. AND that's with rust protection!
I'm not an expert snow driver, but I've noticed that the traction is better if I just go easy on the gas and let the tires have a chance to get a grip. Just spinning tires like crazy seems to have little benefit. Also, I'd climb an incline as diagonally as possible - but I think you made this video for fun :) Nice video and editing btw. Awesome car too.
Even then Mustang's traction control isn't really meant to help much at all in the snow, just aids in wet/dry conditions. It's more meant to counter understeer and oversteer if you need to avoid something at high speeds or lose grip in wet conditions. Since the Mustang, even a V6, is essentially a sports car and shouldn't take the same mechanics as an offroad vehicle =)
I love the V6 Pony Package. It appears that you have that on yours. I like the Traction Control but like you said, no help on hills. Couldn't even barely move my cousins on a couple inches of snow. Summer tires stink ;(
I live in New England...home of the snow. Here we've learned cars like Mustangs are nice weather toys. LOL!! My daily driver is a Subaru with AWD, haven't gotten stuck yet even in the 2.5 feet of snow we got after a major storm this year.
@hummerkid11 Even though this is old just follow a set of pre-made tracks and for the most part you'll be fine everytime. The stang is just to light at the rear end. Add bricks in the trunk also for next winter.. You'll blast right through
@pcmr57 rear wheel drives actualy get battter traction cause when u take off all the momentum make the wieght go to the back so it gets better traction
That works on drive pavement only my friend. You must have never driven in snow with front and rear wheel drive vehicles to compare. You will get much better traction with a front wheel drive in snow. The weight of the engine sits on the drive wheels plus you get steering input as opposed to front and rear direction only.
Pickups can be dangerous in winter because there is such little weight in the back end. They tend to have higher ground clearance which is good for a lot of snow but they can be tricky to drive on icy roads without stability control. I've seen lots of truck guys lose control on slippery roads with 2wd pickups because the back end breaks loose so quickly.
Great driving, worst thing to do is stop though. My 1998 Firebird doesn't have traction control. I know the limits and would NOT make it up this hill. I don't know what I would do though if I had to get up there to get to my house... Ask a neighbor to tow me up maybe.
The little truck got through because he look like he had some weight in the back. I see lot snow in the back of him. The car probaby needed more wieght in the trunk or back seat like sand bags.
@hummerkid11 traction control doesn't help much on slippery surfaces with an open diff, if you have racing tires on the car you might as well get a 28 spline LSD put into your axle
i wish they made Mustangs AWD

Yes. the car has traction control... but it doesn't help much on a hill in the snow.
hummerkid11 3 years ago
nope it helps if you turn it off, i do that in my moms car so it doesnt let off the gas while your flooring it
