@ruaridh2k7 he does have a good backhand. But have you seen Nalbandians? that guy can return insanely with that backhand. Watch the Tour Finals against Federer.
he shook his hand, smiled, and congratulated, what more are you asking for? a kiss? some fireworks? get over it
he has more stefan edberg sportsmanship awards than stefan edberg himself, and those awards were voted by his fellow peer tennis players, players who play federer over and over again knowing him head to toe
and here you come and judge federer because he did not sing a song for his defeat
you dont know tennis, you dont know character, you dont know sportsmanship
@foul01 I have to disagree. You are correct about him winning the edberg awards but i think that was a load of shit and more a reward for winning rather than sportmanship. People think he's classy because of how he plays, not how he acts. When have you ever seen Federer warmly congratulate or embrace an opponent after a loss? Take James Blake or Djokovic; guys like that are true sportsmen. they win and lose with dignity and respect. Roger's boring dominance will soon end.
just look at the past edberg awards recipients, Rafter, Srichapan, Martin, Corretja... most these players dont even have a grand slam. what you're thinking of is the Fan'sFavorite award
dont even bring djokovic up... the guy abuses medical time outs (vs Robredo) retires when he's behind (vs Nadal, Roddick) talks shit even when he loses (French Open 06) and is quick to find excuses when he loses (illness, injury, contact lens)
lmao Djokovic is a true sportsman?? You're talking about the guy who points at himself when he wins and strips and throws his clothes and racket to the crowd Djokovic? Blake is pretty good, but Novak Djokovic? C'mon, man, get out from under that rock you're living. Federer's one of the best there is.
I'm a huge Federer fan but I loved this match. All I like is to see Federer play great, and that's what he did. The level of play at the end was ridiculous.
All credits to Davydenko he played incredible tennis, and I'm glad he finally got a big win (he deserved it after so much time in top 10 and even top 5)
hey morons i agree ppl over react...federer is curteous most of the times but this match he did kind of suck and snubbed davedenko by not handshaking respectfully especially since all players show him a lot of respect
still now federer has not improved on sporstsmanship.when he loses he does'nt even gives a laugh to congratulate.....he should learn tat frm rafa, djokovic and del potro......even murray has better sportsmanship than roger
You're kidding right? Federer is one of the few top players that congratulates his opponent's play. You saying that "he should learn tat frm rafa" shows you have absolutely no idea. Nadal almost never congratulates his opponent's play by voice and he almost never says his opponent played well, it is always that he "didn't play his best" today. You're a joke, get out. It is understandable that Roger was disappointed in this match. He had never lost to Niko and had chances to win the match.
@AllGenreMusic when nadal lost to del potro at the us open, he said that del potro played better than him and deserved to win at the post match press conference.
@reefric Well I did say "almost never." If Nadal didn't congratulate Del Potro after getting virtually swept off the court, I mean that would of been extremely disrespectful of him. I know he clearly isn't the best with English but he said his loss to Ljubicic a few weeks ago was an "accident." He knows decent enough English to choose a different word or to close his mouth. Ljubcic clearly was the better and more mentally strong player from midway in the second set.
@AllGenreMusic I agree, his loss to ljubicic was no accident, simply because ljubicic had a dream week and won the tournament, I guess some player´s over dramatize their loses sometimes in post match interviews and don´t give the deserved credit to their opponents. that´s probably one of the reasons, why andy roddick is my favorite player, he almost never makes excuses, even when he loses a match. he´s honest as hell and not overproud with himself to admit, when he´s outplayed in match.
To win a match against roger, you ve got to play this amazing tennis! lol gosh, i wonder how many people in the world can accumalte such a performance.....and i wonder how many people can actually do it on fast court! this court is bloody slow....pain to watch!
Fed will always b d man wether he wins or loses.Nadal used 2 b d man...until he lost 2 Soderling at RG.Davydenko on the other hand is on top of his game & when he does,he is one very tuff customer 2 beat.Davydenko is a worthy champion here...
The only reason Federer didn't force a tiebreak in the 3rd is because at 6:23 Davydenko played one of the most amazing speed and angle forehands I've ever seen anybody hit. I mean the second Federer hit the ball Davydenko was running to that spot with ridiculous reaction time.
If you replay his movement getting that that forehand shot you'll see just how ridiculous it is. I guess I'm just commenting this because I'm saying Davydenko had to play the shots of his life to beat Federer, so just because Fed lost I still think he gave a great performance and just got outplayed near the very end by a very high level Davy.
yes Davydenko did hit a really good shot, but Federer was playing sloppily, his forehands were going down the middle of the court, non of the shots in that rally were even remotely close to the side lines.
what a stupid comment, My favorite player is Federer, but that's just disrespectful, Davydenko is a very good player, and almost every match that he played with Federer, he gave Federer something to think about, and yes Davydenko would beat you in tennis while balancing and drinking a cup of tea.
I'm sorry but this victory by Davydonko has been blown out of perspective. Yea he played some great tennis and I'd understand if Federer was at his best but he clearly wasn't. As far as I know he's been as gracious in defeat as he has in victory. He cried (so what), the last I knew, he was only human. Many players have cried, people just seem to make more of a fuss when it's him for some silly reason. Loosing is never easy, especially to Federer who's won so much.
don't tell me no one else cries when they lose a tournament semi final, yes he has won a lot, he has also lost quite a few times recently, but crying doesn't mean that he is a sore loser, he just has passion for the sport, and yes we all hate losing, we sometimes might not show it, but we DO HATE LOSING.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
He's a sore loser because he practically ignored Davydenko in the end (who probably expected decent handshake & gesture from the ambassador of tennis).
I didn't say he's sore loser for crying. He's pussy for crying.
Defeated champion would sign a few autographs, THEN hit the shower and burst in tears, away from his fans (you don't want to disappoint them) and opponents (you don't want to encourage them that way).
Ho, yea and I suppose you've never cried in you whole life have you, big man.
Watch any tournament when a player loses and notice that many do a halfhearted handshake and go straight into the locker room. Why is it when Fed does something like that, the vultures, like you, pounce on him, it's pathetic. Yea, maybe he should've done some autographs but the bloke is only human after all. Some don't like him because he's a genius, it makes them feel jealous, and love it when he falters.
Well, I was hoping for an intelligent response but I suppose that's way too much to ask for from someone as ignorant and immature as you. And by the way, it's spelled "wanker".
@wilkoman3 you are right he is a big winner but not a big loser.im sry but when loses he always has this injuries or something like this.example:wimbledon 2010
he loses against berdych and after the match he said that he had problems with his back but no doubt that this day berdych was just too strong same at the semi-final australian open 2008
@gasquet4ever1994 I do think Federer has suffered a overall drop in form. You'll be familiar with the odd player who suddenly gets this huge rise in form and plays amazingly. It never lasts and they eventually go back to the way they were in before. Where's Davydenko now? or Berdych? have they won much lately? no. You get all many saying "Somebody has finally cracked Federer's game" Which isn't true of course. This victory was a combination great form for Dav and poor form in Federer
listen moron he doesnt like losing he hates it he shaked his hand wat more do u want him to do?? hug him?? he hates losing thats why hes a 15 time grand slam champion and thats gd if he cries it shows that he cares. FED = awesome davydenko is good in best of 3 set matches

stefan edberg awards arent voted by tennis fans, they're voted by peer tennis players
now if roger is really the sore loser you say he is, the first people to know would have been the guys who played him
the fact that federer can get so many stefan edberg awards just goes to show what a sportsman he is
