Another great find - Spike Hughes was a genius! That's my father-in-law, Val Rosing on the vocal. Val recorded with Henry Hall, Jack Payne, Ray Noble, but Spike Hughes' band was the best!
Thanks for listening. This recording was made in London for Decca records on March 12, 1930. The alto sax player who plays the solo on the recording is Philip Buchel. He does sound a lot like Frank Trumbauer. On March 12, 1930 Frank Trumbauer was in Los Angeles, California with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra filming the King Of Jazz film for Universal Pictures. I am going to include more recordings by Spike Hughes and Phillip Lewis Rhythm Maniacs. These are great bands that have been overlooked.
