  • Fantastic video and great music, Kau1981.

To see some 20 Japanese and American efforts in hydrofoils, search in Youtube for: rvell7829.

  • nice one :) (Y)

  • when is wallsmart gunna stock deese?

  • i'm not sure i could crew that thing without pooping my yellow pants

  • wow that was so awesome i almost stared crying with jealousy , very outstanding creation, i could only dream of seeing that in person much less feeling that.

    what a ride !!!!!!!

  • Qui est rapide!!!!!

  • its have the world record with 103 km/h

  • Félicitations !! Continuez !!

  • why don't they put the sail all the way up then it would fly and with the kite up (spinmaker)

  • this boat cannot sail with the wind on his back...

  • jesus h. christ... fantastic...

    *****

  • Beautiful, Majestic, Amazing, Crazy

I would love to sail in this boat someday...

  • I would love to fly on that thing , adrenalin rush for sure!

  • that is the craziest thing in the world.

  • interesting

  • very faster !!! it's hell in water.

  • Kite what ? come on... They can race anytime, think about holding the distance.

  • Awesome!!!....the helm is like a racecar steering wheel....need me one of these!

  • this boat is almost as fast as the fastest kitesurfer! Very impressive.

  • Thanks for reply below, pastadude111.

So, how fast are kitesurfers sailing now? I'd always been under the impression that kites were slower (soft airfoil kite designs that deform under high speed, etc.) than board-mounted sails which have a stiff leading-edge.

  • Im into speedkiting, and the record for kitesurfers is 102km/h (about 55knots) average over 500m, held by Tilmann Heinig of Germany, record was set on January 26th 2008 in Westerhever, Germany on the North Sea. My personal record is 36knots over 500m, Tilmanns record is purely insane, but great!

  • sorry, it was 50,9 knots = 94,27km/h average over 500m, Top-Speed was 102km/h.

  • whats this song called?

  • Narvas from Juno Reactor

  • beautiful and incredible faster....

  • Looks incredibly fast, for a boat that is. Don't know much about boats though.

  • 18 metric tons - an area of 1 square meter of hull underwater. Very high-tech control software to maintain 3 axis stability. Carbon structure designed by aerospace engineers. Specifications above those of fighter aircraft Rafale for beam stiffness. Buy the book by Alain Thebault ISBN 208068809X (french)

  • Fantastic! Congratulations to the French for their speed record.

I'm curious: I notice that in parts of the video, the sail is reefed, presumably to control the overall lift generated in order to prevent the vessel from rising to high on the foils out of the water, thereby becoming unstable. How does one keep pushing the balance of sail force vs. overall stability? Is this the key factor in pushing the records beyond 50 knots?

  • there are kitesailors now faster.

but this really is an engineering feat!

  • brilliant

  • jooooooooahh gabiiii einisch bisch du de au so am flüüüügeleee mit dim grosse brooo....luv yaaaaaaaa

    :D:D:D:

  • Schwäble?

  • Thank you kau1981, such a brilliant music match to a fantastic scene!

  • fantastic! And I love this music of backgroud, who know it?

  • the music of background is: Juno Reactor VS. Don Davis - Navras

  • oh my god this is amazing... and imagine how fast it would go if they put the sail on the top (its only in the middle now) this is crazy... i love sailing!!!

i want a hydroptère =P but as far i know there are only 5 in the whole world... :(

  • There's still only one hydroptère, a second will be build. If you hear Hydroptère Version 5 it's just because it has been rebuild and reconfigured a few times. This project is years in the making.

  • ok. yes i can imagine that it takes months to biuld a second.

so probably i'll never get one =P

  • All boatbuilding takes months for boats this size... you might still get one in time for a good summer ride :P

  • ADRENALINA TOTAL......

  • i wonder if there are any stresses wen the boat goes that fast?

  • can it tack/gibe while still airborne?

peut il virer ou empanner sans atterrir?

  • High tech sailing at its very best! - I wonder how many millions of US $ this project has gone through!

  • UbuntoO, nice idea but it couldn't work, the inly reason this boat works is because it's made of super light carbon fibre, if it was made bigger and used to carry goods it wouldn;t be light and so couldn't get up on the foils

  • all I can say is: I WANT ONE!!!

  • trop bon... je veux le même !

    vraiment impressionant...

  • If this boat design was made larger with computer controlled balance, steering and sail adjustment, it could provide fast commercial transportation without fuel.

  • Where's the mota !!

  • how the hell does it go so fast?!

  • It's a hydrofoil.

  • rawirig : easy to explain ! Once the boat reaches a certain speed, the foils would lift it up, thus taking the hull out of the water. This dramatically reduces the drag, the boat needs less energy to go forward and if I consider wind a a constant source of power, the boat would naturally go a lot faster.

  • you could make it from florida to cuba in less than 2 hours in this.

  • cheesebib is idiot...

a boat has to be balanced with it's center of force, so having all the sail out doesn't necessarily mean the boat's balanced, or will go faster...

  • Just fantastic.

  • you know that that is the worlds fastest sailboat it went 100 km rigging with the main sail half way up. Imagine how fast it would go with the main and jib nd spinicer allthe way up

  • Woow! Dat gaat hard :O

  • i have a 33 foot hunter...i wish i could sail that fast
